In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how sitting on an exercise ball does not help your posture. It has long be thought that replacing your desk chair for an exercise ball was a good way to improve your posture. This has not been shown to be true. While you may improve your core strength a little and burn more calories than if you are sitting in a chair your posture does not improve. A real big, long term study from the American Cancer Society has shown that people who sit for 6 or more hours each day are at a higher risk of premature death. That is even if they exercise. So it is important to get up throughout the day and walk around. Get a treadmill for your office and walk at a slow pace. Stand more. Whenever you are on the phone get up and pace around the room.
