On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy opened the show with award winning science journalist Gary Taubes, author of the controversial book Good Calories, Bad Calories. Fats, Carbs and the Controversial Science of Diet and
Health. He believes that the fewer refined carbohydrates we eat, the leaner we will be because carbs increase insulin levels which causes obesity, increases your hunger and decreases your metabolic efficiency. Not only that but he says that refined carbohydrates, starches and sugars are the most likely dietary causes of Alzheimer’s, cancer and other diseases. He says exercise does not make us lose excess fat – it just makes us hungry. And obesity is the result of excess fat accumulation not overeating and not a sedentary lifestyle. So according to Gary eat all the protein you want, he says their is no upper limit on your protein consumption – just avoid the carbs and you’ll lose weight and also be healthier. Put down the broccoli and pick up the pork rinds! His mostly protein based eating plan is a favorite of Atkins and South Beach diet lovers like Jimmy Moore with Livin La Vida Low Carb www.livinlavidalowcarb.com . You can find Gary’s book on Amazon and in bookstores everywhere.
