In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their favorite healthy taco recipe. Go with the soft flour tortilla rather than the crunchy corn tortilla. Get rid of the fried ingredients like refried beans and the cheese. Use fresh ingredients like tomatoes, spinach, garlic, grilled vegetables, grilled chicken and salsa. You can even make your own fresh guacamole and throw that in too. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share a favorite marinated vegetable recipe. Preparing marinated vegetables is a great way to get your kids to eat their veggies. If you marinate the vegetables correctly your kids will focus on the flavor of the marinate rather than the taste of the vegetable. You can take some carrot s and steam them for a few minutes then marinate them in a pan with salt, vinegar, olive oil and some mint leaves. Dr Fitness loves marinating mushrooms in olive oil, some wine, and garlic . Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how eating soup with each meal can help you lose weight. Every meal except breakfast unless you know of a good breakfast soup. Eating warm soup before a meal has been shown to control your appetite. It may be the warmth of the broth or the fiber from the vegetables but either way eating more soup will help you feel full and help you eat less. Use tomato, vegetable or chicken broth soups instead of cream based soups. Add lots of different veggies to make the soup hearty and healthy.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Fiber is awesome because it makes you feel full which helps you control the amount of calories you consume. It also has been shown to slow the absorption of sugar and fat as well, which is a good thing. Try and eat real  fiber like fruits and vegetables rather than taking those fiber supplements. So grab some legumes or an apple or pear and drink those freshly squeezed juices with pulp. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy shares tips on how your diet can effect your bone health. Building strong bones is important if you want to avoid getting osteoporosis.  A recent study found that in Asian countries they don’t consume the amount of dairy we consume here yet they have a low incidence of osteoporosis. The Asian diet consists of low acid foods like fruits and vegetables that help the body consume the calcium they get through the foods they eat. The thinking is that because we consume so much acidic animal protein here we are having a difficult time absorbing the calcium and that is why we suffer from osteoporosis at greater rates. So for good bone health and strong bones to prevent osteoporosis try a low acid diet that is high in fruits and veggies and low in meat. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to make healthy meals with stuff that’s been hidden in your freezer or pantry for awhile. That bag or can of beans that you have had for months in your pantry can be cooked up and added into salad, soup or even a salsa. Beans are a great source of protein and fiber. And that bag of frozen vegetables that seemed like a good idea but you have not figured out the exact right meal for them is perfect for your next dinner. Thaw them and put them in a salad or soup or even try doing what Dr Fitness loves is roast them on a cookie sheet after you spritz them with olive oil. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
