Start with a box of whole wheat penne pasta – then cook until it’s almost done – but not quite finished – this is more art than science. Now in a pan stir fry up some veggies like spinach, sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, olives and pine nut. Now toss in the pasta and mix together for a little while longer. Number one because it is delicious and number two it is because it helps us get in our proper servings of fruit and protein. You start this rock star salad with some baby spinach as the base then add your favorite fruits like strawberries, mangoes, or oranges. now add some nuts like pecans, walnuts or almonds – don’t go too nuts with the nuts because they have a lot of calories. Now add more veggies like olives, mushrooms or hearts of palm. As more and more of us use smart phones like the iPhone, Android based phones and even the Blackberry you can take advantage of the apps that run on each of those devices to improve your fitness levels. These apps can track your runs and workouts, keep your music and even add the ability to share your workouts with your friends.  Some of these apps cost a few bucks but some are also free. For this veggie burger you use 1 1/2 cups of quinoa, 2/3 cups of hummus, tomato paste, basil, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, and soy sauce. Blend all that healthy goodness up.
