The key to giving your kid any of the big “talks” – the “drug” talk, the “sex” talk and the “Grandpa’s not going to be joining us for Christmas ever again” talk is to not make it one big talk. Make it a series of little talks that happen throughout their lives. Whenever you see something on the news, or on TV or in your kids life that is an example of the dangers of drugs – that is your cue to have a little brief talk about the dangers of drugs. Use the example that is in front of you as the topic for your talk. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share a favorite pasta and arugula salad recipe. This is a great recipe for a meal when it is hot outside. The key to cooking pasta is to pull it out of the boiling water before it is fully cooked and let it finish cooking in the colander in the sink. Now make a salad with arugula lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and all you favorite salad vegetables. It seems that if you have type or type 2 diabetes that the mechanism that regulates your body temperature is out of whack. Diabetics have difficulty sweating enough when their body temperature rises. And when you don’t sweat enough when it is super hot you can overheat. So if you have diabetes stay cool – wear loose fitting clothes and make sure you stay hydrated. Vacation Travel Healthy Eating Tips

If you are going to be driving all day – it is a good idea to get some exercise in beforehand – because once you’re in that car you won’t be burning many calories.  Prepare lots of healthy snacks to eat in the car in order to prevent trips through the drive through or be tempted by all the unhealthy food choices there are on the road. Healthy snacks like sandwiches, wraps and veggies and fruit you can eat with your hands without making a mess work great. If you’re traveling by plane be sure to bring some trail mix or energy bar that you can keep on you in case there is a flight delay. Put those aside – and try not to eat too many of them yet. Saute some green pepper, red pepper, in garlic and olive oil;. Go nuts with the veggies – add whatever you like. Then take some vegetable broth, soy sauce, sugar, red pepper, olive oil, ginger and garlic mix it up then dump all that in your wok (or pan).
