There is some growing evidence that anti-oxidants in capsule form might impair muscle function over time. Ingesting lots of anti-oxidants might throw off the balance between the pro-oxidants in your body and cause problems. The research only looked at anti-oxidant supplements that might suppress some good stuff in your blood. Did you know that being embarrassed in phys ed can haunt you later in life causing you to hate exercise and become less active. PE should focus on connecting physical activity with  fun for your child. But some PE teachers are frustrated drill sergeants and take that out on the kids. If you want your child to love activity then it might be a good idea to take a peek in his/her PE class. Make sure they are leaving some time for unstructured play and that the class is not too over organized. Chop up at least 3 tomatoes, slow cook them in basil flavored olive oil as your base. Then add in garlic, onions, sun dried tomatoes, capers, spices and lots of raw vegetables. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share Dr Fitness’ favorite tuna salad recipe. This recipe doesn’t use mayo. Start with either your choice of cans or pouches of tuna. Experiment – see which one you like more. Add celery, walnuts, onions, tomatoes, and your favorite spices. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share ways to make sure you are counting your calories accurately.  Writing down what you are eating is a great way to keep track of your calorie intake. But what if the food companies and restaurants are conspiring against by misrepresenting how many calories are in the food you are eating? That would not be cool. But it’s happening.  Did you know that the FDA allows for a 20% margin of error in the number of calories that are inside packaged foods? And the penalties are much greater for the company if they put in too little food – so they are incented to put in too much. Restaurants are even worse – since each meal is made by a human you are going to get human error. MRSA is a dangerous bacteria that used to be found only in hospitals but has now creeped into locker rooms and even some homes. Researchers have found an interesting sea sponge that seems to be MRSA resistant because it is filled with natural anti-bodies. Early research is positive that this might be a cure for MRSA.
