In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to improve your memory. All the information we now consume through the internet, TV, radio and juts walking around makes it hard for us to remember things that are really important. We are dealing with information overload. Just think about how many passwords you have to remember for all the websites you go to. So here are some memory tips to help you remember stuff: After you meet someone new, repeat their name back to them by saying something like “Nice to meet you Bill”  Remember things in chunks – don’t remember one number at at time cluster the numbers in chunks of three or four. And always remember to sleep and exercise more and take those omega 3s.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why you should drink more water. While it is debatable exactly how much water you should be drinking each day – it is true that a lot of people are walking around suffering from dehydration without really knowing it.  You don’t want to get dehydrated, and a lot of times when you think you’re hungry you are actually thirsty. So drink some water instead of raiding the pantry or vending machine. Dr Fitness loves to squeeze a little lime or lemon in his water to give it some flavor. He also dilutes his sodas with water as well. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share secrets how to stop emotional eating. Stress is a huge trigger when it comes to emotional eating. So the trick is to be aware when you are under stress and instead of reaching for food to make yourself feel better you reach for something else. I know easier said than done. But awareness is the first step to fixing a problem. You will have to reprogram your brain to not connect eating with making relieving stress. You must connect food only with being the fuel you need to live. Food should not be the thing that makes you feel good after a bad day or the thing that you reward yourself  with after a success.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to choose the right fitness program for you. Choosing an exercise program that fits is a little tricky. Most people don’t think much about it and just join a gym or they buy a treadmill. It is much better to choose an activity that you like to do rather than doing something that you think will whip you into shape. If you don’t really like to attend spin classes then you will probably quit at the first schedule conflict. So first get a doctor to check you out physically to get their blessing. Then pick something that requires you to move and fits your age and health.  And don’t jump right in -check it out first – go to a class or take the exercise equipment for a test drive. Once you decide you like it then go for it.   Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how counting calories can help you lose weight. Studies say that their is a better chance for you to lose weight if you keep track of the amount of food (calories) you consume. By writing down what and when you are eating you have a greater awareness of how much and why you eat.  Write things down as you eat and drink them rather than waiting until the end of the day and trying to remember – because invariably you will forget that handful of candy at your friends desk or that bite of hamburger your kid didn’t finish. And beware – restaurant calories are much higher for the same foods as home cooked meals because restaurants love to use a lot of butter in their dishes which adds lots of extra calories that you wouldn’t have at home.  Remember, if you bite it – you write it. (Same with drinking – but I don’t have a rhyme for that.) Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
