Booth Kalmbach   Booth Kalmbach, CEO, Entigral Systems, Inc.

Mr. Kalmbach co-founded Entigral in 2003, and has directed the architecture, development, and product marketing of TraxWare®, Entigral’s groundbreaking sensor automation platform. Mr. Kalmbach is a successful serial software entrepreneur who has founded, managed, funded, and exited several software ventures including Virtus Corporation (CEO & Co-founder; 3D modeling and gaming; acquired in 1996 by Ubisoft Entertainment S.A.), Q+E Software Inc. (VP Marketing; database access; acquired in 1994 by Intersolv Inc.), ProMedex Inc. (CTO & Co-founder; web-based disease management; acquired in 2000 by InLight Inc.), and Coactive Systems Corporation (CEO & Founder; cloud-based contact center software; acquired in 2003 by First Consulting Group Inc.). Mr. Kalmbach holds a U.S. patent in distributed computing from his career as an IBM Scientist. He received a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, Cum Laude, and an M.B.A. from Duke University Fuqua School of Business, where he was a Fuqua Honors Scholar.

Mark Gemberling   Mark Gemberling, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Entigral Systems, Inc.

Mr. Gemberling is an experienced sales and marketing executive with over 25 years of experience in the technology industries. He has provided transformational leadership in the areas of strategic and tactical planning, sales process improvement, and organizational development. He comes to us from Belden where he was the Vice President of Sales, Americas. While there, he developed and implemented strategic plans to generate demand for Belden’s products to end users through direct sales, contractors, consultants, and distributors. Prior to Belden, he held several key leadership roles at GE Healthcare including being the National Sales Manager for Systems &Wireless where he leveraged technology and accessibility of data to improve patient and clinical workflow. He holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University.

David Houghton   David A. Houghton, Director, Bright Wolf

David has over 25 years experience working at the intersection of technology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and performance improvement in a variety of strategic planning, management, operations, business development and marketing posts. Mr. Houghton currently leads the sales and business development activities as Director for Bright Wolf, a software company developing and deploying IoT solutions. Before joining Bright Wolf, Mr. Houghton was the CEO of Veedims, leading the commercialization of a novel technology targeting the real time M2M automation space. The prior two years were spent consulting to Verizon, shaping and executing their healthcare vertical and identity solution strategies. Before Verizon, Mr. Houghton managed and led the sale of Systems Pathology Company, an innovative software start up to Charles River Laboratories. As a Vice President for SAIC, David initiated and led the Commercial Life Sciences Practice for 9 years. Mr. Houghton was Vice President, Business Development for Axios Data Analysis Systems Corp – a high performance software analytics firm targeting the Healthcare marketplace. Mr. Houghton held senior positions at Pfizer Inc, in the Global Development Organization where he was responsible for strategic planning and operations. His field sales and systems experience spans 13 years and includes assignments with Sun Microsystems and Unisys Corporation. Mr. Houghton holds a BA in Economics from Villanova University.

Gerry Hayes   Gerry Hayes, President/Founder, Wireless Research Center of North Carolina

Dr. Gerard Hayes is the President and founder of the Wireless Research Center of North Carolina. Dr. Hayes has more than two decades of experience in government and commercial electromagnetic research and design.  Prior to working with the Town of Wake Forest to establish the WRCNC in 2010, Dr. Hayes was the Director of Engineering at GreenWave Scientific where he led the development of antenna and RF circuit designs for a diverse range of DoD applications.  At Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (USA) Inc., Dr. Hayes provided global technical leadership in the Technology and Research organization with contributions to handset antenna design, technology, and radiated performance optimization.  At Lockheed Martin (formerly Lockheed Missiles and Space Co.), Dr. Hayes supported research and development efforts for space-based, phased array applications.  The scope of his experience encompasses electromagnetic theory, bioelectromagnetics, antenna design, RF circuit analysis, and material engineering. He has participated in the development of international standards for OTA, HAC, and SAR evaluation (including IEEE, IEC, CTIA, and C63 standards).  With over 75 US patents, Dr. Hayes has maintained a prominent technical role in the wireless industry.

Paul Moore   Paul Moore, VP of Sales & BD, Connected Development

Paul Moore has worked in the wireless industry for just over 15 years. As VP of Sales and Business Development, Paul works closely with clients on M2M applications and connected devices to ensure the design integrity, certification, and successful product launch. Previous to his role at Connected Development, Paul was Director of Business Development at Ericsson, a Cisco certified engineer for AT&T, and a communications Sergeant in the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg. He did his undergraduate at UNC Charlotte, and MBA from University of Texas, Dallas.

Mark Boggs   Mark Boggs, Associate Director, Verizon Wireless

Mark Boggs has worked for Verizon Wireless since 1999 serving as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, and Associate Director. In this capacity, Mark has been responsible for designing and implementing cellular data solutions for customers in the government and enterprise sectors. Mark currently manages a team of Advanced Solutions Architects who support government and enterprise customer across North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Prior to entering the wireless industry, Mark was an engineer for both Fortune 20 and Fortune 100 companies based in the Charlotte, NC area.

Prior to his work at Verizon Wireless, Todd was a CIO for a SC state agency. He also has an extensive background in GIS, Project Management, and Software Development.

Wireless Connections 

The Wireless Research Center’s first show featured Ann Revell-Pechar, as host and  Gerry Hayes, President/Founder and Larry Steffann, General Manager, of the Wireless Research Center of North Carolina, as co-hosts. Ann welcomed into the studio Mayor Vivian Jones, and Marla Akridge.  The conversation was centered on economic development and the positive impact the Wireless Center is making on the area.

Mayor Vivian Jones, Town of Wake Forest

Vivian Jones is the four-term Mayor of the Town of Wake Forest, NC. Prior to serving her first term, Jones found great success in the catering and restaurant industry. She grew up in Red Cross (Randolf County), NC, and attended the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC-Greensboro).

Marla Akridge, Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce

Marla is President of the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce.  She attended Ohio State University and Auburn University, where she received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, respectively.  Upon graduation, Akridge moved to Jackson, Tenn., where she spent several years working at a research facility at the University of Tennessee.  Over the next few years, Akridge taught continuing education computer courses at various community colleges in Tennessee.  After serving on the board of directors at the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce in Tennessee, Akridge went to Prattville, Ala., where she served as president of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce for five years.  Akridge then moved north to assume the president’s role at the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce in Ohio.

Shaun Olsen received a degree in Business Administration from the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, is an active-member of the Center for Entrepreneurial Development, the Cameron Executive Network, as well as a contributor / advisor to a number of other professional organizations within the greater-Wilmington area.

Shaun Olsen, a strong leader in the tech community, has been a part of numerous tech start ups over the last 15 years. Companies included BBXComputers, which provided IT outsourcing to mid-sized businesses, AcoustiCreations, which specialized in luxury audio in both residential and commercial markets as well as commercial cabling, Port City Multimedia, a certified CLEC in the state of North Carolina and Opterex, a local service provider of Voice and Data services. Shaun was employed by Olsen Enterprises, Inc. and served as the Chairman, Majority Shareholder and Chief Executive Officer until 2012. OE, a Technology Company, provided executive leadership, financial planning, accounting, legal and human resources services to the OE Operating Companies consisting of: AcoustiCreations, BBXComputers and Opterex, LLC.

In 2012, CloudWyze, Inc. was co-founded by Olsen which combined the service providers (BBXComputers, LLC and Opterex, LLC) and capital was raised to seed the start of a specialized cloud delivery platform. CloudWyze provides a turnkey solution to cloud migrations for businesses ranging from 5-500+ employees. The formation of CloudWyze extended the reach from Southeast North Carolina to nationwide in less than 12 months. Shaun continues to lead the company in just about every facet and remains a business operational resource for numerous companies faced with challenges.

Larry Steffann has over 35 years in technology.  He has been a CEO (NSO/AMEX) and COO (BOCI/Nasdaq). As a serial entrepreneur, Mr. Steffann’s recent roles have included GM of the Wireless Research Center of North Carolina and VP of Product Development for Consert, a Smart Energy start up in Raleigh North Carolina. Consert raised more than $40 million in funding prior to being sold to Toshiba.  Larry Co-Founded Joystick Labs, the initial tenant of the American Underground at the American Tobacco Campus, in Durham, NC. Mr. Steffann has been a serial mentor both as a corporate executive and as a community minded citizen. This started with Israeli Incubators and has continued as an Executive-in-Residence at North Carolina State University since 2008. Mr. Steffann has mentored for the Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) as a Fast Track and VMS mentor. This combination of executive leadership and hands on mentorship is now applied to economic development – the primary mission of The Wireless Research Center of North Carolina.
