Today on the Chic Perspectives Show, I got to chat with Michelle Briody, author of 16 Weeks to Your Dream Business: A Weekly Planner for Entrepreneurial Women.

Along with her co-author Nada Jones, Michelle founded an innovative fashion business in 2001 that showcased emerging women designers and their products in the fashion, beauty and lifestyle markets and gave women outside of NY and LA access to the latest trends.

Having worked with hundreds of emerging women-owned companies, Nada and Michelle decided to write a book to empower other women to go after their dreams and do so in a smart and organized fashion that would lead them to success, while bypassing some of the common mistakes.

In this Chic Perspectives interview, Michelle talks about their 16-week plan for getting started, how women tend to start, build and manage growth differently than men, how this serves as an advantage as well as how it can be a hindrance if they are not careful. Michelle recounts successful strategies of the top performing companies she has observed over the years and gives tips on marketing and public relations.

We also talk about the all important topic of cash flow, how to create, grow and maintain it.

This week it was my pleasure to chat with Angela Stalcup, the Atlanta Market Director for Ladies Who Launch and the Chief Curvy Officer for The Curvy Life about how women entrepreneurs are changing the world.

www.ladieswholaunch.com/atlanta www.curvylife.com

Angela talked about the latest trends she is seeing in women entrepreneurs and why the numbers of women starting new businesses continues to grow in the current economy and how women are becoming more sophisticated in their approach.

Angela gave some great examples of how the barriers to entry have gone down and how women can now compete at a global level with large companies without feeling a tremendous disadvantage.  All signs still point to this being an increasing popular path for women.  While lifestyle is usually a factor for women’t entrepreneurial career choice, more and more money has become more of the focus as women are realizing just what they are capable of achieving once they step out of the shadow of a boss and take their economic power into their own hands.

Angela talked about the new feminine power and how it differs from the traditional view of power.  This is such a hot topic in female business leader circles of late, so I would to hear your comments on how women leaders are challenging the norms and bringing forth a new approach based on collaboration instead of control and what the effects of such a perspective shift will be.

She also spoke of the rise of women in the corporate world and how leadership norms are changing, why certain practices are outdated and what it really takes to get ahead in today’s business world.

Angela and I talked about the new girls club, and how the last 10 years have seen a great shift in how women network, connect and help each other.  We discussed why women in the past have felt a need to compete with each other and why cooperation is the new norm in women business relations.

I know you’ll enjoy this insightful conversation about the next wave of feminine power in the workplace and what that means for profits, products and our planet.  Check out more about Angela, Ladies Who Launch Atlanta, and The Curvy Life @  www.ladieswholaunch.com/atlanta www.curvylife.com

It was such a pleasure to have Mireille Guiliano on The Chic Perspectives Show today.  Mireille Guiliano is the bestselling author of French Women Don’t Get Fat, and she came by the studio today to talk about her latest book, Women, Work & The Art of Savoir Faire.

Despite my terrible (terribly non-existent) french accent – we had a great time getting to know each other.  Definitely want to listen in to this great interview with Mireille Guilliano  – she is a woman who knows her stuff and has walked her talk, through many successful adventures and stages in life – she says we live in episodes – and as a transformation goddess myself, I really must agree.

Mireille shares her experiences working at a CEO of a french champagne company in the states, as she headed to the US to lead up their new presence in America.  And how she grew market share of the brand from less than 1% to 23% of the luxury champagne market.

Mireille talks about how make career decisions that will allow you to maximize and achieve your potential and also enjoy your life. Personal branding, enlightened self interest, and getting unstuck and manifesting a magnificent turnaround – are all part of the wisdom she shares.

Her unique french -american perspective is indeed a treasure.  Check out her book and her free websites for all the latest on business sense and sensibility for the chic entrepreneur.

I love Mireille’s philosophy and the book is a delight – definitely pick it up …  some of my favorite of her ideas are:

“Communication skills are the key to a successful career, more than intelligence, knowledge or experience”  — or hard work, I would add  — “The latter might get you the job, but the former gets you promoted” – really, yes, that is how it actually works out there.  Wake up and realize that there is a game, it needs to be played – and you can play it like a woman and win.

“The enlightened career move has to balance talent with passion and opportunity. Nature did not give us the bodies to succeed in certain professions or the minds for others.”  — Stop fighting with nature and instead maximize what you have, Mireille tells us to work with what we’ve got and communicate how we are unique, different and special – because we all are.

We also had an interesting chat about how too much talent can be a burden, and how to make important career decisions by taking into account your life as well as your ambition.

Thanks for stopping by Mirielle and sharing your Chic Perspective with our listeners today (she was on Good Day Atlanta this morning), safe travels back to NY and lovely Paris.  I certainly look forward to applying the art of savoir faire to my business and my life and I know our listeners do as well.  Check out Mirielle Guilliano and her latest book Women, Work & the art of Savoir Faire @  www.mireilleguiliano.com and http://frenchwomendontgetfat.com/

For more on how to be a Chic Success as a Chic Entrepreneur, get all of Season One of Chic Perspectives on CD on download.  Thanks for listening to the Chic Perspectives Show.  Let me know who else’s you like us to get on the show to share how to “succeed in style” – your own personal style, that is  – creating an authentic flourishing business as a unique reflection of yourself, your joy, your genius and your ambition for yourself, your family and the world.

Thanks for being a Chic Entrepreneur.  Until next time, wishing you all Chic Success.   — Elizabeth

Laurie Mandato
Laurie Mandato

Today on The Chic Perspectives Show, I had on Wardrobe and Style Consultant Laurie Mandato to talk about fashion and style.  As some of you know, my take on “style” has less to do with following the trends and more to do with finding yourself.  Laurie’s philosophy is also all about authenticity and she knows that people feel better when they look good.

Laurie talked about how she empowers women to be confident in the bodies they have, while giving them the tools they need to reach their own version of perfection.  Laurie talks about her passion for working with speakers, authors, executive leaders, coaches and consultants who are stepping into the spotlight and what they can do to match their image to their message so they can feel fabulous and confident in the role of speaker.

Laurie also talked about how she recovered from the fabulous SHINE event put on by Ali Brown in Las Vegas with some scheduled R & R out at Canyon Ranch – a resort I know all too well, having recently spoken there for a few days with my friend and business partner Ana Weber as part of our Your 48 Hour Day seminars.  Tips like this are available on Laurie’s website

Laurie also explains how what you wear on the outside is a reflection of what you feel on the inside and how to use colors, fabrics, and tailoring to enhance you inner light.

There is a strength that comes from expressing your authentic self, and when you find your individual style that you can wear with confidence.

Thanks Laurie for spending time with us today and sharing your Chic Perspective on how entrepreneurs can use style to maximize the first impression they make on others and increase their overall earning power.

Today on Chic Perspectives my guest Cheri Flake, The Stress Therapist, talked about what stress really is and what the root causes of it are.  What happens in our bodies and minds when we are feeling stressed?

Cheri says it’s self inflicted – it’s how we think about our lives and our circumstances.  We discuss why stress is such a problem in today’s society and what is realistically possible in terms of managing and feeling stressed.

I just love Cheri’s breezy demeanor toward life.  She realizes that you can be smart, successful and accomplish great things without having to drive yourself to unhealthy levels of stress. She obviously has a very full life and realizes  how to make it a fulfilling life as well.

Cheri shares great tips and ideas for managing stress and the commitment it takes to do so. She talks about how to deal with difficult people, as well as anxiety, depression and mood swings around stressful situations.

If you are interested in success without the stress, give a listen to Cheri Flake on Chic Perspectives, and check out Cheri’s website at www.thestresstherapist.com or follow her on twitter.com/stresstherapy.

Thanks Cheri!  And much continued Chic Success to you!

Today on the Chic Perspectives Show Bruce Freeman, “The Small Business Professor” Author of Birthing the Elephant: A Woman’s Go-for-it! Guide to Overcoming the Big Challenges of Launching a Business, joined me for a great discussion on how more women entrepreneurs can turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.

Nationally known as the Small Business Professor, Bruce is a syndicated columnist for Scripps Howard News Service.

http://www.smallbusinessprof.com/

He is the President of ProLine Communications and serves as adjunct professor of marketing and entrepreneurship at Kean and Seton Hall universities.

http://www.prolinepr.com/

Bruce and Elizabeth talk about the first 18 – 24 months of a business, otherwise known as infancy and how to build oneself up to have the psychological strength to succeed.

The book Birthing the Elephant identifies the four stages of birthing a business: starting your start-up; running your own show; achieving breakthrough; and finding your business rhythm

We discussed the difference between how men run companies and how women do, and what women tend to struggle with and why and where they find the power to survive and thrive.  And of course, what women can do to achieve greater chic success.

Some of the keys to Bruce’s philosophy include:

  • The ability to understand and manage emotions
  • Expect (and overcome) self-doubt, performance anxiety
  • Getting into the emotional mind frame to succeed outside the comfort of the traditional workplace
  • Commitment, courage, & persistence
