ewwlogoMs. Tillie and Andrea Sharp from Every Woman Works, Inc. join Host Dana Barrett for a lively discussion about how and why women find themselves without jobs and sometimes without homes.  They talk not only about the information and services these women need to get back on their feet, but also the self-worth, empowerment and love needed to not only get them back on their feet, but also help them stay there.

Every Woman Works Inc. Learning Center is a non-threatening, supportive environment where women who are homeless, recovering from alcohol and drug dependency, in transition from the penal system, recovering from domestic violence, or living in poverty will have an opportunity to develop solid, transferable work skills, to strengthen their sense of self-confidence and to obtain financial independence.

Ms. Tillie and Andrea also shared information on their upcoming “Stars Dancing to Change Lives” event scheduled this Saturday October 5th at the Concourse Athletic Club.  Tickets for the event are still available and donations welcome.

Booth 61 with Terry Kim and Eugene Yukin 9 25 2013Booth 61 on 9/25 was another major HOME RUN. I was eager to meet Terry Kim, Founder of CheckAction and Eugene Yukin, Founder of TranscriptsHQ because they both came very highly recommended by Johnson Cook and Kyle Porter at the Atlanta Tech Village.  I now owe Johnson and Kyle even more than I did before. These two YOUNG guys are the real deal and I know we will be hearing more from and about them over the next few years. Listen to this interview and learn from two passionate entrepreneurs about their past, their hopes, and their future. After listening, I suggest you visit both of their websites from the Link on this page and explore what they are doing in their respective industries.

After spending almost 3 hours with these two fine gentlemen, I felt 20 years younger and 10 times smarter. It was a privilege meeting them and I plan on spending more time with them in the near future.

Annual blood screening and testing a single, powerful and cost effective tool for preventing disease. Blood tests reveal a snapshot of our health and often detect health problems before symptoms or disease. Regular monitoring, especially over time, can help patients focus on early intervention strategies and good health maintenance. Blood tests are cost effective compared to the costs of disease related healthcare and medication expenses. Physicians often order “routine” blood tests during and annual physical, but often neglect age related or non-obvious blood testing and they often do not focus on risk factors. Blood tests provide information about the function of our cardiovascular status, hormone function, kidney and liver function, our body chemistry and our endocrine system. By obtaining blood samples and evaluating the results, patients can screen for cancers, learn about the degree of inflammation in their bodies, measure our risk factors for certain diseases and help us improve our health and longevity by catching critical changes and showing us where to focus for optimal health maintenance.

In this segment, board-certified urologist, certified medical review officer and owner of Any Lab Test Now, Dr. David Perlow will educate the listeners on top, common annual blood tests that can save lives and help us keep focused on disease prevention. Listeners can visit: www.anytest.com for more information.

Aviary Photo_130241736578666099A rare native Atlantan, Allie Atkins ventured as far as Macon to earn a degree from Mercer University.  She started her career in the healthcare field publishing medical journals.  A number of years ago, Allie got involved in the Real Estate Book that you’ve probably seen at Kroger or Walgreen’s.  This venture naturally led into a resource book for seniors, Senior Living Choices.  About four years ago, Allie had the opportunity to acquire the company.  After publishing Senior Living Choices in Texas, Florida and the Carolinas, the book is finally making its debut in Atlanta this month.  Interestingly enough, the company is headquartered right here in Duluth!  Allie tells us this book is unique in a number of ways.  First, it is published monthly, rather than quarterly or annually, making the information in it more timely and relevant.  Second, it is widely available around the city, not just in hospitals and rehab centers, but in places you frequently shop – like the grocery store, pharmacy and Target or Walmart.

For more information about Senior Living Choices, or to contact Allie directly, please call her at 770-500-2075, email her at allie@slc-atl.com, or visit the website: www.seniorlivingchoices.com.

We want to thank Griswold Home Care for sponsoring today’s show.  Griswold Home Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Atlanta for more than 20 years.
