Our guest today was Chuck Russell, President and founder of BestWork DATA. He discusses how, by using new data technologies, you can take the “OOPS” out of hiring. Author of “Right Person – Right Job, Guess or Know,” Chuck pioneered a new understanding of the practical power of solid DATA to transform the human resources of a business.

Using the newest insights and science of human behavior and working with the most distinguished psychometric scientists in North America and Europe, Chuck has developed a new and more powerful tool to bring increased clarity to the hiring process through more revealing and actionable assessments of the traits of individuals and how those apply to job performance.

From the developer of over 500 unique assessment reports and three assessment system, learn what the new state of the art is in employee assessments and how the popular assessments like Myers-Briggs and D.I.S.C. differ from the newest tools.

In the process, you’ll lean how using today’s modern psychometrics, you can not only put the right person in the right job but even do a far better job of matching job requirements to the best person among a group of seemingly equally qualified and talented people.

With over 70% of all firms using these or similar tools today, if you are not a user, you need to discover what you are missing and if you are not using Chuck’s system, learn what you are missing. You’ll be glad you did.

Giving back to the community is a big thing with Chuck and he makes his system free for use by any Veterans organization to help our heroes understand their strengths while assisting hiring companies to pick people who will best fit their requirements. If you work with any veterans’ group, get in touch for full details, Chuck will be a great partner.

You’ll find more ways to use the system Chuck developed by visiting www.jobthoughts.com – a site for those seeking new opportunities, and www.studenttsincollege.com – a site for students to find out their dominant traits to help them pick careers that will seem like play and where they will excel.

You can reach Chuck Russell at chuck@bestworkdata.com on the web at www.bestworkdata.com or call 770-715-8326.

Beginning in Retail management for Sunglass Hut, Inc., she then partnered with two other entrepreneurs to launch the New Yorker Deli and Butcher Shop on Pharr Road in 2004. They were an approved vendor in the 2006 Olympics, which was an incredible experience in working with city government and massive crowds. “These early experiences helped me develop a strong work ethic, dedication to outstanding customer service and a need to really enjoy my work!” Since then, Catherine has a 15 year track record for success in the Retail, Wholesale Trade Show and Staffing industries.

She has worked for such companies as Coca-Cola, Bank South (now part of Bank of America), and S1 Corporation, and her last position was Managing Director of Marketing for Georgia Natural Gas where she was the highest ranking female managing a multi-million dollar budget that encompassed advertising, event management, sales support and market research.

Anita Paul/The Write Image

A communications specialist, Anita Paul is known as “The Author’s Midwife.” She coaches and mentors corporate professionals and successful entrepreneurs to become published authors. Through her Write Your Life program, she shares strategies for writing, publishing, and marketing a book … and then leveraging it to upsell your expertise.

A 20-year veteran of the marketing communications industry, Anita started The Write Image in 1997. A corporate communications company, The Write Image develops marketing and public relations programs for mid-size businesses and organizations. She uses her extensive planning, organizing, and strategic marketing skills to help clients develop effective communications strategies and public relations campaigns throughout the U.S.

After years of working with decision makers in various industries she realized one thing they had in common — they were “secret agents.” These super intelligent, well respected, knowledgeable leaders were experts in their fields, but nobody knew it. She wondered, what would help these experts get noticed? The answer: Every expert needs a book of her own. So she developed a program to help professionals upsell their expertise.

“Women (and men) in business need a calling card, a defining brand, a product to demonstrate their knowledge and their expertise,” says Anita. “A well-written book is one of the best tools to brand professionals as experts in their field so they can gain the visibility, recognition, and opportunities to take their careers and their businesses to a higher level and to earn more money.” Over the years, her passion for mentoring authors to overcome obstacles to their publishing success became her focus, and thus, Write Your Life was created.

Designed to reinforce a business platform for existing authors, and to establish and support a budding brand for aspiring authors, Write Your Life is a unique, comprehensive program for establishing your expertise and leveraging your book as part of your brand. “It’s bigger than the book,” says Anita. “You have an idea, a business objective, a career goal, a brand, or a grand vision. We work to create a book that will support that platform, brand you as an expert, and get you going in the right direction.” In 90 days or less, Write Your Life will change your life!

We welcome Glenn Spears and Roger Wise who exemplify the terms Veterans, Citzenship and Entrepreneurship.  Glenn and Roger talk to students and civic groups as “Stars and Stripes” to inspire their audiences toward personal achievement, patriotism, military service and participating in civic activities of all kinds.   The “Stars” references Glenn’s career in the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Lieutenant General.  The “Stripes” refers to Roger’s service in the enlisted ranks of the United States Army during a slightly earlier era.  Individually, and together as “Stars & Stripes”, Roger and Glenn represent outstanding examples of citizenship, service and personal achievement.

Glenn Spears is a successful business development consultant who specializes in the aerospace and information technology sectors.  As president of Spears Advisors, LLC, Glenn increased U.S. market share and opened new markets in Latin America for a major business aviation aircraft manufacturer.  He also increased U.S. federal market share for a wireless communications integrator.  Before entering the private sector, Glenn served over 30 years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force.  He is a

combat-experienced pilot, and flew 16 different types of Air Force aircraft.  Spears’ last assignment on active duty was as the Commander of Twelfth Air Force and Air Forces Southern, and he retired with the rank of Lieutenant General.  Academically, Glenn earned a bachelors of science degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy and Master’s degrees from both Salve Regina College and from the Naval War College.

Glenn can be reached at GlennSpears1@hotmail.com

Roger Wise, Jr. is originally from Goldsboro, North Carolina, attended Goldsboro High School and East Carolina University. He  is a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Army Medical Corps.  Following his military service and capitalizing on that experience, Roger had a successful 30 year career with the Ross Division of Abbott Laboratories.  Roger rose through the corporate ranks, continually recognized  and promoted for achieving success at every corporate level, finally retiring from the prestigious and important role as Regional Director of Regulatory Affairs and Governmental Relations. Roger is a noted and respected civic leader, heavily involved in political activities, a National Ambassador for Shriners Hospitals and a strong supporter of Junior ROTC. He has been on so many boards that we don’t have time to mention them all.  Roger was recently spotlighted in the local publication Focus on Fulton, the theme being “Roger Wise Pays His Civic Rent”.

Ambulatory surgery centers are exploding across the area, so this show dives into why this is good and features Dr. Jeffrey Hoadley of North Atlanta Surgical Associates … all brought to you by HealthGate.

Advances in both anesthesia and technology along with lower costs have fueled the explosion in the use of ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) across the nation. Medicare and other carriers have approved ASC for performing over 70 different types of procedures. Over $60 billion are spent each year in ASC surgical cases. Last year in Georgia, more than 18,000 procedures were performed in ASC’s with over 40% of these surgeries being related to the digestive system. Today we explore the ASC model, expectations, cost savings, indications, and why these facilities, in general, mean good news for both practitioners and patients.

Jeffrey Hoadley, M.D./North Atlanta Surgical Associates

In private general surgery practice at North Atlanta Surgical Associates, Dr. Jeffrey Hoadley is board certified in General Surgery. Dr. Hoadley completed his residency at Emory University and fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic. He is an expert in hernia injury repairs, and conducts these for local Atlanta professional sports teams.

Dr. Victoria Grady invented a new change analytic, The LOE Index, that predicts which sectors of an organization are (or are likely to) experience highest stress during a change initiative – and how to best mitigate it.  By implementing The LOE Index before, during and after a change project, change managers can more effectively allocate resources, monitor progress, adjust interventions, and demonstrate success using data.  Frequent guest co-host, Jinnie Lee Schmid, is the first consultant in the Southeast certified to offer The LOE Index to clients.

Victoria M Grady is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Organizational Sciences and Communication within the Columbian School of Arts and Sciences at the George Washington University in Washington D.C.  Her research is focused on the inherent loss of stability suffered by organizations introducing and implementing organizational change. Original research in 2005 resulted in the  validated model of an Organizational Loss of Effectiveness (LOE Model) explaining the tendency of individuals, often subconsciously, to struggle, resist, and potentially disrupt the organizational change initiative.

Dr. Grady continues to build on the research and practical application in the field of change management.  The original model was extended to include a validated analytic (LOE Index®) to quantitatively measure the tendency of individuals within an organization to embrace (or not) organizational change initiatives.  The index focuses on the individual employee, and how factors inherent in change impact overall performance.   Her consulting practice is focused on issues of Organizational Change/Trust and includes federal government institutions, non-profit organizations, and private sector companies.

Johnna Gardner has been a social worker and caregiver since she was three.  At least that’s what her aunt told her.  Dealing with mental illness in her family from the time she can remember, Johnna was destined to serve this segment of the population.

Growing up in upstate New York, just south of Rochester, Johnna later went to the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo, earning a degree in Sociology.  She later attended the University of Georgia, earning her Masters Degree in Social Work.

After spending 25 years in sales and marketing, Johnna felt called to return to her roots.  After earning her masters in 1991, she worked for a variety of health providers, including hospitals, hospices and even did some teaching.  Ten years later, Johnna decided to take her experience into the home, and formed JG Options.

JG Options deals with clients referred for depression, anxiety and mild cognitive impairment.  She now has 15 clinicians that work with her to serve the entire metro Atlanta area and beyond.  Her services are typically covered by Medicare, providing mental health assessments and mental health therapy in the clients’ homes.  She tells us that she treats the patient by treating the entire family!  For more information, please call Johnna directly at (770) 414-9742 (office), or (404) 277-3226 (cell).

We want to thank Griswold Home Care for sponsoring today’s show.  Griswold Home Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Atlanta for 20 years.
