As fitness events get crazier and muddier than ever we had on our good friend Jeff Graves explains why the Mudathlon may be the dirtiest mud, obstacles and beer oriented fitness event ever. We love the idea of having fun while doing a physical activity – you’re exercising but you think you’re playing so you don’t mind doing it. Absolutely love that concept. If you have the same mindset you will love the whole Mudathlon series.

Jeff said that over the summer there will be a mudathlon in Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati and Cleveland – check the website for dates and exact locations. Every event and course is unique to terrain of that location. These events are crazy in that lets do that again way. He’s got massive monkey bars, cargo nets, watered down hills, lots of tunnels and tires to navigate through and around and of course lots of mud. You can do this event by yourself or even better put a team together and make it a company outing.

People really get into this event – Jeff says the race is PG-13 and the parking lot could get into the R area. You will get muddy and you will have a good time. Three tips for running a mud event like the Mudathlon from Jeff were…

  1. Duct tape your shoes on if you want the have them at the end of the race
  2. Wear old clothes that you don’t mind throwing away – bring a complete change of clothes in your car
  3. Weight lifting gloves  (an old pair) are great to have on the course – especially on the slick climbing obstacles

We had to beg and plead but Roni Noone has agreed to share some of her recipes with us. Here’s her delicious whole multi-grain pancake recipe from her GreenLiteBites book and blog. The recipe uses rolled oats, skim milk, whole wheat flour and a bunch of other stuff you’ll have to listen to to write down. But this is a flexible recipe that works just as well as waffle batter as it does pancake batter.
