How do you like your smoothie’s creamy or fruity? Get some mango – fresh or frozen. The good thing about using frozen fruit is that you don’t have to use ice cubes to make it a smoothie which dilutes the fruity goodness. If you like it creamy then add some milk product either soy, almond or low fat cow milk. You can add some yogurt if that floats your boat and some honey to sweeten it if you really have to. Some people throw in some protein powder or whey to give it a little power. Dr Fitness like to throw in a handful of berries to make it a little more colorful. So celebrate the start of smoothie season with a nice cold frozen treat like this one. The key to a good smoothie is your blender – the Fat Guy bought a VitaMix at Costco and it works like a charm.

Alex Yount is the marketing guy behind one of the craziest freakin days of your life – The Warrior Dash. If you like to get muddy, if you like to challenge yourself in unconventional ways  and if you like Renaissance Festivals then the Warrior Dash must be added to the fitness events you do this year. This fun fitness event combines all of the stuff from your childhood adventures and/or what happens on the TV show WipeOut.

The Warrior Dash in Georgia is May 14-15 this year. Register early – because around 20k people are going to participate and it takes 2 days to get everyone through the course. Just to give you the heads up this 12 obstacle course includes lots of mud, water, fire and music. You have to be at least 14 to race. Everyone who competes gets a cool helmet and t-shirt and if you’re old enough you also get a free beer. Expect lots of Warrior food like bbq, corn on the cob and turkey legs. There is even a Jumbotron screen so you can watch all the other competitors take on the mud. You can compete in the costume contest, you can race with your friends. A muddy good time will be had.

This event is happening all over the country and even around the world so please go their website www.warriordash.com and see if there is one near you.

Participating in fitness events do not have to always be running around in a big circle. Running 5ks, 10ks, half marathons and marathons are not for everyone. So thankfully their are fun fitness events that are inspired by the TV show WipeOut. That’s right you can now challenge yourself to lots of different “races” that include mud, water, fire, climbing over stuff, going through tunnels and running and jumping. This is not the Boston Marathon folks – these events are for people who don’t mid getting a little muddy and who enjoy a cold beer after their race. So check them all out and find one near you and go for it.

Cavities can be contagious. The bacteria that clings to your teeth that causes cavities can be passed from person to person. And the most common way this happens is not they way you think – get your minds out of the gutter. It happens when a parent shares food with their kid. So in order to promote good dental care – do not take a bite of food then give the rest to your child.

Frequent nose bleeds can be a problem. Here’s what to do if you get a nose bleed. Sit straight up, lean forward and pinch your nostrils for about 10 minutes. If it doesn’t stop bleeding in 20 minutes get real medical help.

Guess what is the most common cause of nose bleeds? Picking your nose – so stop doing that. Also in dry winter weather weather nosebleeds are more in prevalent for some people. But remember if you are getting a lot of nose bleeds tell your doctor it might be a symptom of something more serious.
