BRX Pro Tip: People Management

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] And we are back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, what have you learned recently about managing people?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:09] Well, I just read this book, Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara, and I have to say, it’s my new favorite business book that I’ve read lately. I think everybody should be reading it. It’s about a guy that ran a five-star restaurant in New York called 11 Madison Place, and it became Restaurant of the Year globally, internationally, the best restaurant in the world. And it talks about what they do to achieve that high level of hospitality and service.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:43] And I think it’s a must read for any marketer or anyone who aspires to deliver memorable service. There’s going to be a lot more tips going forward, but this one specifically is about how to deal with team members. The guy says to always praise in public and criticize in private. You know, we kind of all know that. Another thing is to criticize the behavior, not the person. And then, when you’re praising the person, praise with emotion. And when you’re criticizing the person, criticize without emotion.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:20] I think those are important, really subtle differences and really subtle ways to manage people. And I think that your team will appreciate that. Again, this book, Unreasonable Hospitality, should be read once a year for anybody in the restaurant business, as far as I’m concerned, and it should be read regularly for anybody who is out to deliver memorable service.

BRX Pro Tip: QR Code Generator

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, let’s talk a little bit about QR codes.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:09] Yeah. I’m seeing more and more QR codes everywhere. Post-pandemic, QR codes have become more and more popular. I mean, now you go to some restaurants, they don’t have menus anymore. They have a QR code on the table you have to download. You know, you click it and you go to the website and you see the menu from there.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:26] I think the QR codes are a great way to lead someone to your website or a landing page without spelling out a long URL. Since people are getting more and more comfortable using QR codes, you might want to try using them in your marketing, you know, put them on a wall in your store, put them near things if you want to move them to a landing page.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:44] Here’s a website that lets you create QR codes you can use for your business for free. If you go to qr-code-generator.com, you can generate a QR code for your website. Or you can Google free QR code generator, you’ll find a bunch of them out there.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:59] But I think that it’s worth experimenting with. It’s easy to do. You just get the QR code pointing to a page you think is important, print it out, put it somewhere, see if anybody goes to it. It’s definitely an idea worth testing.

BRX Pro Tip: When is Enough Enough?

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Question of the day, Lee, when is enough enough?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:09] Yeah. That’s a question that everybody has to ask themselves at some point in their life. As you progress through your career, you’ll find more and more people doing better than you. You’ll find lots of people doing worse than you. Some people see that as proof that they’re falling behind, or they’re failing, or they’re killing it.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:27] So, some people use other people’s success as a motivation to do more. And when they do that, they keep moving the goalpost farther and farther away from where they started. And at some point, you’re going to just have to accept where you are and be okay with what you’ve achieved. And I’m not saying that you shouldn’t strive to be better and better, but what I am saying is at what point is enough enough. And that’s a question everyone will have to ask themselves and kind of get comfortable with.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:58] Think about why you’re doing what you’re doing, is it because you love what you do or is it because you’re just trying to keep up with the Joneses? Only you have the answer to that. But for everybody, at some point you’re going to have to accept that what you have is enough.

BRX Pro Tip: 7 Questions Your LinkedIn Profile Should Answer

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, this is timely, I’m kind of revisiting my LinkedIn profile. What should I be thinking about as I update that thing?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:13] Yeah. You know, at one point everybody said you better be good on Google because everybody’s going to Google you, and that’s absolutely true. But it’s also true that everybody’s going to check out your LinkedIn profile before they hire you. So, your LinkedIn profile should be doing some work for you. And here’s some questions your LinkedIn profile should be answering, because people are going to be checking out your LinkedIn profile, and you want it to be portraying you in the right light and in a positive manner.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:43] So, number one, you better be clear on answering the question of what do you do. People want to know what you do specifically to see if it’s a good fit for them. Also, if you could answer how do you do what you do, what makes you different, that would be great. And why does what you do work, that would also be a good question to answer in your LinkedIn profile, so people understand that you’re bringing something unique to the table.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:08] You can list the services you provide, that’s helpful because then they know that they can get those things with you. Another thing to have in there that’s important, if you can do this in an elegant way, if you’ve been on podcasts or if you’ve been published somewhere, where might someone have seen you, that gives them that social proof, that third party kind of recommendation that helps. You know, if you have any testimonials, that’d be great. What have some of your clients said about you, that’s a great thing to answer too. If you have some testimonials, that’s helpful.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:41] And probably the most important thing is how can someone get a hold of you. There has to be some call to action, some way to contact you so you can move them off of that platform, LinkedIn, onto your website, into your calendar. Anything like that would be helpful. So, make sure that your LinkedIn profile is working for you.

BRX Pro Tip: Are You Ready to Grow Your Business in Other Markets?

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] And we are back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, how do you know if you’re really ready to grow your business in other markets?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:11] Well, it’s great that you’re considering that because growth is so important in all businesses, so maybe another market is the right move for you to make. But before you do that, you’ve got to have three things figured out. Number one, you better have a playbook for the optimal way to launch and run your business that you can hand off to somebody else. Without a playbook that gives people kind of a paint by numbers way to run your business, you’re going to have a hard time.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:37] Number two, you better have a clear picture of the persona of an ideal person to run your business in that other market when you’re not around, because that person is going to be your boots on the ground, they’re going to be doing all the work. So, you have to know kind of the characteristics and traits that that person has, and now you’ve equipped them with a playbook to be successful so you’re on your way.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:58] And then, lastly, you better know that that market is ready and willing to buy what you have. If the market isn’t right, if you don’t have the right person in the market and you don’t have kind of a plan on how to attack the market, you’re not going to be successful. So, don’t think about expansion until you have these three things figured out.

BRX Pro Tip: Can You Incorporate the Tom’s Model?

Stone Payton: [00:00:00] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, as you well know, I am more than enamored with, I call it, the Toms model, but can we incorporate it in our own businesses?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:15] Yeah. For the people who don’t know, Toms is a shoe company that gives away a pair of shoes to the needy every time somebody purchases a pair of shoes for them. And that’s something that a lot of companies could really use a similar strategy in their business, because this helps the company differentiate themselves from other companies, and it makes the buyer of whatever it is they’re selling feel good about themselves for making the purchase. And it also virtue signals to other people who see them in those specific shoes that they’re a good person for helping other people.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:49] So, it’s one of those kind of multifaceted benefits for folks. And so, you should try to think about ways that you could be leveraging this same model in your business.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:00] I’ve been trying to think about it here at Business RadioX, if there’s a way that we could kind of leverage the same thing. Like maybe if somebody sponsors a show from us, that any show that they sponsor will also provide a show for a nonprofit that they care about, and maybe that they’ll feel good about themselves because they know they’re helping a nonprofit get the word out about the good work that they’re doing. And from a Business RadioX standpoint, maybe it makes our sponsorship towards them more sticky because they don’t want to put that sponsorship to that nonprofit at risk.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:36] So, it’s one of these things that, is there anything you could be doing in your business to reframe your offering that you can be helping somebody else at the same time in the same way that Toms does, and that way that you can create more and more opportunity to serve your community, grow your business, and help other people choose you.
