  • Immediately prior to forming Single Focus Web, Cecily worked for an international web firm called Cornershop Creative. Cornershop has a wonderful reputation with larger national and international nonprofits for pairing innovative web design with usability focused on the special needs of nonprofits. As only the second employee to be brought in during Cornershop’s early days, Cecily was lucky enough to be able to both learn from and help shape the growth of Cornershop.
  • Single Focus Web was created with the intention to provide that same depth of service and customization to the smaller more localized nonprofits in and around Tucson, Cecily’s home of many years.
  • Prior to joining Cornershop Creative Cecily worked for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona developing their extensive online presence. When first joining the food bank they were raising slightly under $25k online in yearly donations. The year Cecily left they raised $1.4 million online.

About the Business

  • Cecily is joined in the business by her designer, Jessica Castillo who shares a background in nonprofit design and is absolutely magic.
  • We pride ourselves on websites that can be fully maintained in-house by nontechnical organizational staff and we provide full training packages with each website we build.
  • In order to help our nonprofits maximize donations and supporter interaction, we work with the full spectrum of CRM (Constituent Relationship Manager) choices including Bloomerang, eTapestry, Classy and many others. We love walking clients through the process of choosing a good CRM for them.

BRX Pro Tip: Why BNI Leaders Should be BRX Studio Partners Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, why do you feel that BNI leaders should seriously consider becoming a Business Radiox studio partner?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:15] I think that if a BNI or other networking group leader, or manager, or franchisee, or whoever is running that group really have a side business of a Business RadioX studio, it would take their networking to the next level because it’s a great way to get people into their loop, number one, new people to invite them on a radio show. Secondly, it’s also about nurturing their existing clients. You can’t nurture your existing clients enough, to me. So, any opportunity you have to be a value add by giving them an opportunity to tell their stories, that’s fantastic.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:54] And then, also, a lot of these networking groups are exclusive to certain industries and certain categories. So, they don’t have a way to expand beyond that. They can’t kind of create a waiting list of the next person. This allows you to create that waiting list, so that you, now, have kind of three or four other accountants waiting to get on because you’ve already built relationships. And then, now, you have a good kind of pipeline for all of your categories if you play your cards right.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:21] And it also shows you that you are really serving that business community. You can’t demonstrate—it’s important to demonstrate being a good corporate citizen in today’s world. You have to think about social impact. You have to think about doing good. So, this gives you a great tool to really support and celebrate the entire business community and get to know all the associations and all the different players in the in the community, the Chambers of Commerce, everybody. And then, by being that, it’s going to enhance your brand. It becomes just kind of part of the experiences. You join this networking group, you get spotlighted. You get spotlighted, you join this networking group.

Stone Payton: [00:02:00] And the leader of that group, they should be the paragon of virtue. They should be the best living model of referring business and cultivating relationships. And everything that they’re already doing, because they have that mindset and value system, ,man, you’re putting it on steroids if you have access to the Business RadioX platform.

HOW ANIMAL AGRICULTURE IS DESTROYING THE AMAZON
LEARN WHY PETA IS URGING CONSUMERS TO REFRAIN FROM
LEATHER AND RECONSIDER THEIR DIET
Marissa Price, senior strategist for PETA

Marissa Price is a senior strategist for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Her work focuses on equipping activists to lead animal rights protests, speak publicly about animal issues, and advocate for animal-friendly policies in colleges and universities across North America. She has been interviewed by the New York Post and The Washingtonian, among other news outlets.

 BACKGROUND:

Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation in the Amazon and more than 80% of the rainforest has been used for meat production, either for grazing or for growing food for cattle, including those in the U.S. market. Animal agriculture requires massive amounts of land, feed, energy, and water and causes intelligent, sensitive beings to endure immense suffering. In nearly every step of meat, egg, and milk production, climate-changing gases are released into the atmosphere, disrupting weather, temperature, and the health of our ecosystem.

Did you know?

  • Eating meat is the second-biggest environmental hazard facing the planet, while a vegan diet has one of the smallest water, land and carbon footprints.
  • Recent advancements in textiles have made vegan leather options nearly indistinguishable from animal-derived leather, which makes the breeding, raising, killing, and skinning of animals for leather entirely unnecessary.
  • Speciesism is a human-supremacist worldview that fosters violence toward other animals, and it is the root of all the most widespread forms of animal abuse such as the fire in the Amazon.

The meat and leather industries are causing fires raging in the Amazon. A recent analysis of the food system’s impact on the environment stated that massive reductions in meat-eating are essential in order to avoid further catastrophic climate change. On Thursday, October 31, Marissa Price of PETA will discuss the effects that animal agriculture has on our environment. She will also discuss similarly, how the leather industry is contributing to worldwide climate change.

SUGGESTED INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

  • Tell us about the effects of climate change on us and the environment.
  • How does animal agriculture impact climate?
  • Can you share more about the leather industry’s impact on climate?
  • What changes can people incorporate into their lives to help halt the effects of climate change?
  • Where can we go for more information?

For more information, please visit: PETA.org

BRX Pro Tip: How to be a Great Guest Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:02] And we are back with BRX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, let’s talk a little bit about—let’s share some ideas for folks out there on how to be a great guest.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:15] Right. So, a lot of times, the people we’re interviewing and the people in the studios being interviewed, this is their first time that they’ve ever done anything like this. So, I’d like to give them some tips, so they can get the most out of their experience, so that they get the most value out of it. And one of the key things is to get an idea of—listen to some previous shows, so that you know what is the tone of the show. Is the person like really a matter of fact? Is it funny? Do I have to come prepared with a funny story or something like that? But just get an idea of the tone of the show. So, that’s important.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:50] And stories, stories is key. Be prepared to share some stories, success stories, share some origin stories. Share some stories about how you work with your clients. Give some examples of how you’ve served a client and how that their business has gotten better because of working with you. Those are great for you to have. And those—kind of that—those kind of segments are going to be great for you to repurpose later on.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:19] And remember to look at this for your best interest. What are some ways that you’re going to be able to take this content and use it again down the line? So, don’t look at it as, “I’m going to come on the show and answer some questions.” Think of it as strategically as, “I’m going to come on a show, and I’m going to get some content that I’m going to be able to use down the road.” So, make sure that you go, “Okay, down the road. I want to have a good kind of success story. Down the road, I want to have a good origin story.” And then, you’ll be able to pull this content out later on and use it for a variety of things. And the bottom line is, be yourself, be authentic, don’t be too slick, don’t memorize stuff, don’t read stuff off sheets of paper, be an active listener, tell your story with your own passion and your own energy, and everything else will take care of itself.

Stone Payton: [00:02:08] And it really will, particularly on our platform but, really, any media platform where you have a good seasoned host who is genuinely invested in helping you get the word out and wants to support and celebrate business in their community. Stories, examples. A good analogy, sometimes, is really strong as well. Here’s another couple of tips to a question of your own. Man, if you come equipped with a question of your own, and you ask the host or another guest, that is dynamite. Very few people employ that. And find a reason, find a way somewhere during your segment to shine the light on someone else, whether it’s a previous mentor or someone who’s really impacted your life, complimenting someone in the studio or even the host. Those are two of what I’ll call ninja level guest best practices.
