Jessica BadowskiJessica Badowski is the owner and founder of Tucson based Too Busy Gals. Too Busy Gals was established in 2008 in Ohio and moved to Arizona in 2011. It was established as a business to the business service provider after multiple requests for assistance with social media, branding, and marketing from peer business owners. After 20+ years in non-profit management and anti-poverty social work, Jessica decided to break out and start her own business. In 2008, it became quickly apparent the need for high-quality education and coaching social media services were exploding. After 3 years working with national partners in marketing and social media, Too Busy Gals began developing its own roster of clients. Current clientele ranges from a local manufacturing company, land developer, Moroccan artisan e-commerce business, to NYT Bestselling author, and non-profit serving breast cancer survivors.

Too Busy Gals is very active in the local Tucson business community. Currently, Legacy Partners of Local First Arizona, strategic partners with Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Marana Chamber of Commerce, and Vail Chamber of Commerce. Charity and volunteer work has been a passion of Jessica’s and is a central part of Too Busy Gals business model. lisabensonheadshotLisa Benson joined Too Busy Gals in October 2017. Her role is community outreach and connecting local businesses to the training and coaching services Too Busy Gals offers. With a background in event planning, marketing, and advertising research, and extensive marketing experience in networking environments, she ensures Too Busy Gals meets the needs of the Tucson business community. As an active 4-H mom and owner of dogs, birds, rabbits, chickens, pigeons, quail and recently a cat, she is an avid animal enthusiast.

Lisa Benson born in Phoenix, AZ and grew up in the small, farming community of Buckeye, AZ. Both sides of my family worked in farming Cotton, Alfalfa, and cattle, had huge vegetable gardens, lots of chickens and an occasional pig or goat. That would seem a long way from what you do now Lisa? She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing.  She and her husband were married in 2000, and you have lots of dogs, a cat, several rabbits, chickens, pigeons, quail, cockatiels, tortoises, and fish! and your daughter raises rabbits, quail, chickens, and pigeons for the Pima County 4H program and competes in shows all over Arizona and the big show is the Pima County Fair in April. I guess you can take the Farm Girl out of Buckeye but not for life or your daughters for that matter,

Lisa likes to keep busy, being recently nominated for the board at the Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce and will add that to my busy life of work with Too Busy Gals and volunteering as the Rabbit Coordinator for Pima County 4H and The Club Leader and Rabbit Leader of the Little Rascals 4H club in Vail.

BRX Pro Tip: Why Broadcast Live? Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] Welcome back to BRX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, we talk a lot about our focus on our audience really being in the room. Our model is not really built around mass quantities of listeners. So, if all that’s true, why do we broadcast live?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:21] For us, it’s important to broadcast live because we want to create some tension in the room. We want the guests to know that there is no take-backs, that what they say is important, and they better articulate it properly. So, they have to be in the moment in order to do that. So, the live element is critical for us. It’s not a kind of taped model where we’re going to go back, and fix everything, and edit it to sound perfect. The person has to be good live and when the bullets are flying. So, that creates tension. And then, since our objective is to really leverage, and accelerate, and nurture relationships, by creating the tension, and then relieving the tension by having them have a great show, and by helping them have a great show by being a great host, then you’re able to do what we promise, which is to accelerate and nurture relationships.

Stone Payton: [00:01:14] And if you’ve been listening to these Pro Tips, you know how Lee and I feel about post-show editing. We don’t put much energy in that, but we feel like it’s a more authentic and more real conversation. And it just — all of those things lends itself to creating this relationship that we talked about. It’s just a better product in it.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:36] It’s authentic, and it’s real. And people are tired of slick and polished. They want to hear real people asking real questions and answering them from the heart, not from a talking point or a sheet of paper.

Arizona has 1,983 public schools that are comprised of 1,424 district schools and 559 charter schools. National reports say Arizona has made steady progress in education, but more needs to be done, and the pace of improvement is too slow, education advocates say. It is critical that we do everything we can to give today’s students the education, the tools and experiences they need to be successful in the future. It is this investment that will be realized for decades to come.

Dr. Tracey Lopeman, Maricopa Unified School District

Dr. Tracey Lopeman with Maricopa Unified School District in the studio at Valley Business RadioX in Phoenix, ArizonaDr. Tracey Lopeman, a career educator entering her 30th year in public education, is currently serving in her second year as the Superintendent of Maricopa Unified School District. Under her leadership, the district led the state in new National Board Certified teachers, and the expansion of the community preschool program brought quality early childhood education to Maricopa families. She has shared MUSD points of pride on panels, in community forums, and statewide conventions. Dr. Lopeman launched a strategic plan by asking stakeholders to “Start With Why.” Through their work, the Maricopa Why was developed, which serves as a guidepost to develop goals and strategies to steer the District to success.

Dr. Lopeman began her career as a junior high language arts teacher in the Alhambra Elementary School District. After five years in the classroom, she entered administration as a teacher on assignment and eventually an assistant principal. After assisting five different principals in three different Alhambra schools, she became the principal of Alhambra Traditional School. During the thirteen years of her leadership, the instructional programs offered at ATS expanded to meet the needs of a diverse population resulting in a 20% growth in enrollment and student achievement that was consistently among the highest in the state. At the district level, Dr. Lopeman worked out of the superintendent’s office as the Executive Director of Strategic Alliances and Government Relations. In this role she grew partnerships with universities, business, government agencies, and employee and parent groups.

Dr. Lopeman earned her bachelors from NAU and her masters and doctorate from ASU. She is an expert trainer in Leadership Development, Consensus Building, and Participatory Action Planning.

BRX Pro Tip: Where Should I Host My Audio? Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] Welcome back to BRX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, a question I get from brand-new podcasters, a lot of people who are just thinking about podcasting is, where should I host my audio? And here in our system, we don’t ever want any of our clients, and we don’t want our network ever to be vulnerable to a third-party service. So, we’ve made the investment in the infrastructure that we have our own content distribution network. We have our own library. And a great number of our audio files are also found hosted in other places, but there’s always that original file in the Business RadioX library.

Stone Payton: [00:00:43] But as we’re thinking about advising other people who may or may not join the Business RadioX network, yeah, for whatever our opinion is worth, you might choose to host it on some of these third-party providers that can give you statistics and all those cool numbers. But I would encourage you, always have your one good, solid original copy. That sounds like an oxymoron, but an original on your own library that you control, like an Amazon AWS account, I think, they call it. So, it doesn’t mean you can’t do all the other stuff, but you should. You don’t ever want to be vulnerable to these third parties, right?

Lee Kantor: [00:01:24] Right. There’s so many — how many times has it been where you’ve been part of a social network, a social media network, and all of a sudden, what was free is now not free, or in order to access your content is, all of a sudden a hassle to get the content off of there. So, you’d never want to be beholden to any of these third parties because if you are, then they can change the rules, and then you’re stuck. So, we try to give you as much autonomy and control to the best of our ability.

BRX Pro Tip: Where Do You Find Interns? Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] And we are back with BRX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, what do you find interns?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:10] We get the interns, usually, from the universities that we serve. And there’s a lot of outreach from universities that want to have their students kind of involved and learn more about our work here, serving the business community. So, typically, this is one of the reasons, we talked about this in a previous episode about kind of the nonprofits that we serve or why do a show without charging. By building good relationships with universities in specific areas of the university, in the business school or the public relations school, then you’re able to kind of create a relationship where they want to have their students be part of our kind of operation, and they give them the opportunity to learn firsthand and hear these stories right from the horse’s mouth, from the business people that we interview. So, we’re giving the interns a great opportunity to learn about broadcasting, about interviewing, about relationships, business development, all kinds of good stuff that it’s important for them in their career and make connections and network with us. So, we get ours through universities by serving them, usually, first.

Stone Payton: [00:01:18] And don’t fall into the trap of feeling like you need to get a media, or broadcasting, or journalistic kind of intern. There are so many aspects to our business, important aspects that go to sales, and marketing, and operations, and communications. There’s a wide variety of skill sets that you need and a great deal of intern talent out there ready and available, right, man?

Lee Kantor: [00:01:43] Yeah. There’s a lot of people out there that wouldn’t think that we’re a good fit for them, but we really might be because we’re giving them an opportunity to use this kind of platform in a way that it’s not obvious and that they can learn a lot from being part of this.

Stone Payton: [00:01:58] And it’s a sexy internship. This is — I mean, everybody, we know this. This is a fun business. Can you imagine, when you were younger, if you had an opportunity to intern at a place like Business RadioX, and we even have the power, and we’ve done this before, Lee, where we give them a wide berth, man. We’ll let them produce their own show. We’ll let host a show. So, there’s a lot you can do for the intern as well.

Lee Kantor: [00:02:21] Yeah.
