Ability Rehab compressedDid you know that 70% of people over the age of 65 will fall?  Additionally, within the next ten years, the number of broken hips will exceed the number of surgeons to fix them?  Startling, huh!  Prasant Desai and Chris Burd are committed to helping reduce the number of surgeries required by keeping seniors on their feet!  After many years of experience in the healthcare industry, both these men decided to come together to create Ability Rehab.

Ability Rehab LLC focuses on outpatient services providing Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy.  Uniquely, Ability Rehab brings the care to the client – in independent and assisted living communities.  Furthermore, their program is unique in that it isn’t reactive, it’s preventative!  Ability will start part establishing a baseline from clinically observable conditions using established scoring tools.  Then they will develop a plan of care to address the clinical deficiencies.

The best way to get more information is to meet the principals of Ability Rehab face to face.  A perfect opportunity to do this is at their Grand Opening event next Wednesday, October 30 from 11:30am to 2PM.  Their new offices are at 1835 Savoy Dr., Suite 100, Atlanta, GA  30341.  Call to RSVP at (678-298-9484).  Check out their website at www.ability-rehab.com.

We want to thank Griswold Home Care for sponsoring today’s show. Griswold Home Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Atlanta for more than 20 years.

Mary Blackmon/Farm Star Living

Mary is a 3rd generation farmer from Arkansas, who left her hometown to pursue college and a career in advertising sales and marketing in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York City. She worked for publishing houses and internet companies (Wired, Walt Disney Internet Group, Vivendi-Universal Internet Group). In NYC in 2002, she founded Spa-Addicts.com, the first national discount site for the spa & wellness industry. She grew it into a multi-million dollar business and a leader in the industry, and attracted hundreds of thousands of women as well as sponsors including Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, General Motors, Kimberly Clark, Allergan, American Express, et al.

In 2008, however, she learned most of her family farm bordering Ark / LA would be sold. Not wanting to lose the family heritage and farmland her family before her had so cherished, Mary, along with the support of her brother Douglas, was adamant to preserve and keep the remaining farmland. She then began making changes in her life so that she could move from Los Angeles back South in order to keep, operate and run the farm. She bought back her grandparents house and renovated it, and discovered that ‘saving the family farm’ had changed her life forever – and for the better. Today she admits that she is happier than ever – inspired, loving the farming business and now launching Farm Star Living, which she felt compelled to create for the good of farming and the people she has met along her new path. She hopes that Farm Star Living will provide farmers the respect, acknowledgment and support they so deserve and attract new farmers as well as support the current ones.

Booth 61 with Gabe Damiani and David Degitz from iVision 3 10 30 2013Booth 61 with Gabe Damiani and David Degitz is one of the best interviews since we began this show in January. You are going to hear the amazing success story of iVision. You are going to hear pearls of wisdom you can use beginning today to improve your personal life and the life of your organization.

There are more highlights in this interview than I can list so you will have to listen to this in its entirety. What struck me is the success of iVision is the perfect example of Cause and Effect. The Values of iVision are PIRRFAH. I know you are eagerly awaiting the explanation of this almost unpronounceable acronym. Passion, Integrity, Respect, Rigor, Focus, Accountability, and Humility are the values of iVision. All decisions from hiring to new client strategy to expansion plans are focused on their values and what is best for their clients. That is Cause. The Effect is growth from $220,000 in revenues in 2004 to over $37,000,000 in revenues in 2012. In addition, iVision has maintained 100% client retention for the past 9 years. Finally, their employee retention rate is also off the charts. Those are three of the many metrics that are the Effect from the Cause.

I know you are going to enjoy this interview. It was certainly a blessing for me to spend several hours with Gabe and David.

The healthcare environment changes daily and physicians often struggle to keep up with regulatory changes, competition and reimbursement changes. There are many challenges looming: Obamacare, ICD-10 and Meaningful Use. Providers must spend time working on their practices as well as in their Atlanta Business Radio practices to thrive and not just survive. However, practices do not have to stay in a reactive mode. Taking time to plan can put a practice in a proactive mode to be able to anticipate and appropriate respond to opportunities, changes and challenges.

Quarter 4 is the perfect time to take action to minimize tax burden, maximize retirement plans, reconcile inventory, create the coming year’s budget and evaluate the coming year’s capital needs. Taking inventory, updating depreciation schedules, retirement planning, fee schedule analysis, A/R cleanup, tax planning, productivity and compensation evaluation are just some of the year end financial activities that can really make a difference in achieving solid financial performance.

Planning for retention of market share and growth is key to future practice viability yet how many practices have a formal, annual marketing plan. Marketing is often viewed as an expense vs. an investment yet new patients are a critical piece of revenue generation for every practice. The same marketing plans often do not yield different results and how providers reach, communicate with and message to current and potential patients is changing. Year end is a great time to acknowledge referral sources and examine the ROI of existing marketing efforts, brand cohesiveness, content relevancy and process, social media effectiveness and to make adjustments as needed. In a recent poll, 51% of patients said that digital communications would make them feel more valued as a patient and 41% said social media would affect their choice of healthcare providers. Is your practice keeping up with the interactive“new word of mouth” ?

An overall strategic plan can be the differentiating for success. Yet, many providers either don’t know how or feel they don’t need it. Yet, evaluation of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to show the current standing of a practice, a SWOT analysis, a competitive overview and then making and implementing a strategic plan will help all businesses be positioned to recognize and capitalize on growth opportunities, assist in overcoming challenges and help protect market share for any business. Why should the business of medical practices be different?

In this segment of The Doctor’s Roundtable, three industry subject matter experts will weigh in on tips, strategies and considerations for year end planning for 2014 for medical practice success. Join Sharon Allred of LW Consulting ( a healthcare strategic planning expert), Beth McCauley of McCauley Marketing and Mark Estroff, CPA and medical practice tax expert as they share their best advice for positioning your practice for success in 2014. Listeners can visit: www.lw-consulting.com , www.mccauleyadvertising.com and www.pyagatesmoore.com for more information.
