SciTech-Institute-LOGO-COLOR1

SciTech Institute was established as a nonprofit organization as a conduit for collaboration among STEM industry, academia, civic, and non-profit organizations to align assets and resources to motivate individuals to pursue STEM-related educational and career paths. Together, we will build a world-class community of diverse STEM-literate workers and knowledgeable, engaged citizens.

Kelly-Greene-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXAfter graduating from Bolivar-Richburg High School in rural western New York and joining the United States Army, Kelly Greene learned quickly to adapt to her surroundings to be successful. She attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and played shortstop on the Tiger softball team while earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

After graduating from Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, she traveled the world with the military. While stationed in Misawa, Japan, Kelly fell in love with learning about cultures around the world. Even as a deployed Soldier during Operation Iraqi Freedom for two tours, she found opportunities to connect with the local children to form the Victory Base Council Girl Scouts with her fellow servicemen.

In 2013, she was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and traveled the country by air and had the opportunity to utilize the most advanced technologies available to the tactical HUMINT operations in theater. Upon return from combat, she retired with 21 years of service and began teaching 6th grade Math.

After being selected as a Westside Impact Teacher of the Year and having her Fiesta Bowl Charities Wish Granted for a morning news studio, she was asked to begin a new class on campus – 7th grade STEM! Using her enthusiastic nature and combined with her strong classroom management she was able to design curriculum based on the Engineering Design Process to have her 7th graders complete a new project every 2 weeks!

She is excited to serve as the Director of Student Success for the rapidly expanding Chief Science Officers Program. Her goal is to push students just a bit outside of their comfort zone so they can see for themselves the power of their own ideas.

Jake-Lounsbury-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXJacob Lounsbury graduated from Western Michigan University in December of 2000 with quadruple minors Elementary Education, Math, General Science, and Language Arts. In January he started teaching full time for the Saginaw Public School District. In the District Jacob was responsible for Seventh and eighth Grade Science Education at North Middle School. Jacob Was also involved in the Schools Basketball Program and Track Program, coaching the School’s Girls Basketball Team and coaching the School’s track team.

Jacob also wrote freelance for several local papers, and this led to a job opportunity writing full time and marketing in the local paper conglomerate. This later expanded into opportunity to work as the Business Growth Manager for a construction and remediation company. Working directly with corporations such as Dow, Jacob secured contracts and expanded business on a state level as well as worked within business associations to increase the businesses exposure.

Jacob was also a member of the Michigan National Guard, serving as a Cavalry Scout. Jacob spent nearly 10 years in service, including 5 years active time. The active time in the Guard included a combat deployment to Kandahar province, Afghanistan. In Afghanistan Jacob was a Gunner, Truck Commander, Squad Leader, Biometrics Security Specialist, and Key Leader Engagement Team Lead.

Upon returning home from Afghanistan Jacob returned to the classroom. Teaching in Bridgeport Michigan, Jacob taught 8th grade Science and Writing, as well as was the advisor of the Schools Student Council, Girls Track and Basketball Coach, Team Achieve Committee Chair and Karaoke Club Advisor. Through active involvement in the schools STEM engagement plan, Jacob became part of the CSO community as an Advisor, then moved to a team member, first going to Kuwait for their initial Leadership Training Institute, then moved to working of the guides as part of the Global Implementation Team.

Jake is now the Director of Global Partnerships for Chief Science Officers International. In this roll Jake serves as a “Jake of all Trades” working on government and corporate partnerships, implementation and logistics of new and continuing programs, the Middle East Liaison team lead, diplomatic advisor and much more. You will still find Jake in the front of the programs many cabinets both nationally and internationally leading training with both the students and advisors alike.

Lisa-Schromm-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXLisa Gallagher Schromm has bounced between informal and formal education but has remained focused on providing engaging STEM experiences for youth in the state. In her new role at the SciTech Institute, Lisa is responsible for taking that self-driven initiative and providing it to a broader audience as the STEM Ecosystem Lead in Arizona.

Her background in museology incorporated research and evaluation with her interests in community identity. Her experience as a classroom teacher transformed her understanding of constructivist pedagogy. She is now completing doctorate research in using communities of practice to increase STEM capital in the state through the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University.

Lisa is a hobbyist welder and SPSS enthusiast. Reach out to her to explore STEM programs, network with STEM professionals, aid in STEM initiatives, and ultimately amplify the community voice during policy making.

Now he is the Digital Systems Manager for the Arizona Technology Council Foundation and he couldn’t be happier. Much of what he does involves Social Media Marketing, PHP/HTML/CSS Programming, and IT Solutions. He believes that the CSO Project is all about giving back to the community and providing opportunities to those who can really help impact the future for the better, our youth.

Jasper-Pena-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXBeing in love with technology his whole life, Jasper Peña pursued his dreams of becoming a programmer that led him from Chicago to Arizona. He attended the University of Advancing Technology to obtain his Bachelors Degree in Advancing Computer Science and Game Programming.

DIANE-DRAIN-University-of-Dubuque-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXDiane Drain established her law firm in 1991 in order to provide education for those facing financial troubles. She believes that basic legal advice should be free and her commitment is to help her clients get their lives back on track. Her greatest reward is helping a family to establish credit so they can purchase a vehicle or home.

As a well known Phoenix bankruptcy attorney, she truly believes that “when you find your passion, going to work every day is a joy, not a job.” Her clients and fellow lawyers can attest to her passion and commitment to excellence. She practices only the areas of bankruptcy and foreclosure laws. For many years our clients and fellow lawyers rate my work as the highest possible.

Diane is a retired professor of law and taught bankruptcy since 1990 to both law students and the general public. Diane’s clients and peers have given her the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards. Treeoflifewithtaglinecropped480X720

Business Coach Chuck Warshaver Realana Founder Portland Reed RenzlerMedia CEO Skyler Irvine and Elaine CEO Vivienne Gellert

What is the huge, ambitious goal that you’re aiming for. If you can’t define it, you can’t measure it. If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. But what is “it?” What are the specific, measurable, and controllable activities that you’re tracking daily, that you’re plastering on scoreboards all over the office, that every employee knows they’re accountable for? If you can’t answer that question, your business isn’t going anywhere. So CEOs must start with the basics. If you need help finding your killer metrics, Coach Chuck can help!

Chuck-Warshave-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXChuck Warshaver is an accomplished Executive, Entrepreneur, Coach and Board Member with more than 35 years of success in manufacturing industries, as well as nonprofits. Leveraging extensive experience with starting, selling, and buying companies, Chuck is a valuable asset for organizations seeking guidance on rapid growth, identifying markets, and maintaining cash flow.

His broad areas of experience include branding, marketing, succession planning, process improvement, quality assurance, safety, production bonuses, e-commerce, trademarking, and organizational development.

Throughout his career, Chuck has held leadership positions with Englander Sleep Products; World Sleep Products, and Serta Northeast. Currently, he serves as an Industry Consultant for Expert Institute, GLG and Zintro, is a Corporate Director for Global Financial and Leasing, while also serving as an Advisory Board Member and Coach for Everyday Investments Realty, Strand Resorts, Elaine CaraNav, Realana and Jeffco Fibers Inc.

Chuck has a proven history of building and managing customer-centric manufacturing and distribution businesses, and is committed to developing the next generation of leaders and organizations. Entrepreneurial experience spans the development and design of multiple unique product lines and product patents, including a successfully negotiated sale of his company’s QVC private label brand and the sale of his company World Sleep Products.

He has served as a Council Member for Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Member of Young Presidents’ Organization. He has served for several organizations in the Nonprofit sector, including as Executive Director of Playworks; Board Director for Anti-Defamation League; Mentor for New Pathways for Youth, SCORE and EO; and the Development Committee for Special Olympics.

Realana is a business intelligence company formed in response to a provision in the recent tax bill. The Realana team saw an urgent need to facilitate true Community development and created a tool to measure the social impact of investments made in rural communities across the nation. Her company is not only a first mover, but it is poised to shape how communities are built for social impact across the nation, a national imperative called America 2.0.

Portland-Reed-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXOne of Portland Reed’s life’s objectives is to help redefine a business’s role in society as stated by B LAB the creator of the B Corporation, “A historic global culture shift is underway to harness the power of business to help address society’s greatest challenges. [Portland’s] goal is to accelerate this culture shift [to] make it meaningful and lasting. [Her] vision is that one day all companies will compete to be not just best in the world but also best for the world, and as a result society will enjoy a more shared and durable prosperity…”

In her quest to redefine business’s role in society, Portland obtained a law degree from the University of Illinois, did a stint at the Chicago Board of Trade, formed a company on Wall Street, led a merger/aquisition at a tax/consulting firm and was a broker for an investment management firm. Those experiences were just stepping stones that culminated in the development of a first-ever business intelligence tool that will change the way we build communities across America to get folks back on their feet that have been left out of the 21st-century economy.

Portland believes her most important work, however, is promoting the belief that an entrepreneur can pursue doing good and making a profit! Consequently, she co-founded the B Local Mid Atlantic Steering Committee – a community of B Corporations from DC, Maryland and Virginia helping businesses act on their purpose to achieve socio-economic and environmental impact. Her accomplishments include 2017/2018 B Corp® Best for the World Honoree – recognized for creating a company that is best for the world long term!

Hospital emergency rooms are a revolving door for those experiencing homelessness. Two commonly reported non-financial health barriers for homeless individuals include not knowing where to go to seek care and experiencing too much confusion, hassle, or waiting to obtain it. As a result, the homeless become more likely to place a lower priority on obtaining health care due to the large proportion of their time spent on meeting basic survival needs. This is where Elaine fills the gap.

Over the past year, Elaine has designed a system and protocol that efficiently and effectively aligns transportation and navigation services with healthcare delivery to the homeless and underserved. Through a team of navigators, and drivers, Elaine provides assistive services, focusing on: follow up care appointments, prescription fills and refills, and connection to behavioral health and housing services.

Vivienne-Gellert-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXThrough a passion of health innovation and identifying gaps within the healthcare delivery system, Vivienne Gellert is devoted to building strategic solutions around unfilled gaps to promote health equity and implementation of effective and practical solutions. Vivienne’s focus is directed towards vulnerable populations, specifically individuals of low socio-economic background and those experiencing homelessness.

Vivienne currently serves as the CEO for Elaine, Arizona’s first health navigation and transportation system for the homeless and underserved. The system launched in January of 2019 with the support, and partnerships of local hospital systems, health and human service organizations, and Valley Toyota dealerships. In 2014, Vivienne started her undergraduate studies as a pre-med student at Arizona State University. In 2016, during her sophomore year in college, she founded a 501c3 non-profit, BakPak, that was led and run by undergraduate pre-med and nursing students.

During her time as founder and President of BakPak, she observed that vulnerable individuals lacked accessibility and the ability to connect to healthcare services – two of the greatest barriers being transportation and health navigation. Through health navigation and transportation services, Elaine works to improve health outcomes, referral and access to needed resources, and decrease overutilization of 911 and Hospital services by those experiencing homelessness. Vivienne is responsible for the vision, strategy, and fundraising efforts for Elaine as it expands statewide.

ABOUT YOUR HOSTS

It’s Mike Jones‘ mission to see brands grow and succeed – to reach their full potential. He believes every brand, like every person, has DNA that’s remarkable, but not every brand knows how to act like it (and communicate it to the world). It’s not about what’s trendy, whatever consumers are demanding, or whatever will turn the fastest profit. It’s about the long game – building real relationships with your customers and your community.

Chris Stadler likes to see great plans executed. In a world looking for magic formulas, his stoic outlook tends to point people back to doing the basics really well. Accountability and measurement are his tools. In the past, Chris served as the staff copywriter for a large credit union, UX/human factors researcher at the University of Iowa and full-time teaching faculty, teaching design, copy and strategy at the University of Oregon.

Each of us has a unique story to tell, but collectively we share a message that organizations who embrace Project Management Best Practices perform better than those which don’t.  Organizations which align Projects to Strategy perform better.  Organizations with Engage Executive Sponsors deliver better results.  Organizations which measure Project Management performance outperform those which don’t.

During our Project Management Office Hours, we hear directly from Industry leaders how to make an impact in our profession. How we, collectively, will Advance Project Management Best Practices, One Listener at a time!
