Grace with Grandfather Eyes E12

Tapping-Into-Our-Hidden-Potential-E5

What can we learn from six senior leaders about leading large organizations connected to our best selves? Join Hylke Faber and Rick Gage as they reflect together on the past six Rooted & Unwavering episodes with: Pamela Mattson from Outreach, Amit Basak from Full Potential Solutions, Greet Prins from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, Bernard Slowey from Salesforce, John Rex, formerly at Microsoft, and Pradeep UN from Truths & Insights. Explore deep acceptance of ourselves and what is, daring to be present also when things don’t go our way and discover the always and already grace that is here in and around us to enjoy and to share. Look at the world with grandfather eyes.

Growth Leaders Network is a team of experienced facilitators and coaches dedicated to helping individuals, teams and organizations thrive by helping them recognize their innate greatness and putting it to work.

Rick-Gage-HeadshotRick Gage:  Executive Change Agent | Architect Builder of Culture & Community | Leadership Coach & Facilitator.

My passion is unleashing human potential in the workplace and beyond. Very early in life I got to see truly transformational leaders up close and personal.

I became fascinated by the powerful impact they had in the lives of people around them. Since early elementary school I have aspired to be a leader who makes a difference.

In school, I led informally and as an elected student leader. A book about servant leadership was a key influence that shaped how I have approached the role of leader. That passion carried forward into the majority my career where my greatest fulfillment was the positive team environment I could create for my team.

I’ve had the opportunity to lead in some of the great global companies of our time over the last 40 years. Working for companies with deep roots in Japan, Germany, India, France and the United States gave me an appreciation for the powerful role culture plays – both within an organization in the society that surrounds the organization.

After climbing the corporate ladder there came a point where it all shifted for me. What had driven me up to that point no longer seemed to matter. An extended sabbatical gave me the chance to think deeply about what I wanted to do and more importantly who I wanted to be. From that time forward I have been moving into deeper and deeper alignment between my work with who I authentically am.

My father taught me very early that with privilege comes responsibility. I’ve worked hard to use my voice to amplify the voices of those often not fully heard. Advocating for women is something I’ve been doing my whole life. Accepting and celebrating difference has always been easy and natural for me. I just love people. And in recent years, I’m humbled as I learn about the ways I still fall short and how much more there is to do for people of color and all marginalized communities.

My work now with Growth Leaders Network provides such rich and rewarding opportunities to engage deeply with clients who want to grow as leaders, build stronger teams and transform workplace cultures. Beyond GLN, I also am honored to lead mindful communities like the Organizational Mindfulness Network (OM Network) and support transformational teams like the one at A Human Workplace. In all of these ways I can help create the context in which every person can thrive.

Beyond work, being with my sweetheart and six grandchildren is what brings me joy. I’m working to see the world through the wonder of a child’s eyes and the wisdom of grandfather eyes.

About Our Host

Hylke-Faber-headshotFor as long as he can remember Hylke Faber has been curious about what this life is about. His ongoing inquiry has become his work: helping people individually and collectively to discover what is possible in life and express that authentically and fearlessly.

Hylke started his work life with Towers Perrin as consultant and then as Partner with Strategic Decisions Group, serving a wide range of industries, including financial services, manufacturing, consumer electronics and life sciences companies. A major shift occurred during this critical phase of his life. He had become the typical, hard-charging, 16-hours-a-day strategy consultant, and was burning out at a rapid clip.

When he discovered meditation, everything changed. He was so taken by his new discoveries that he chose to bring to business what he was learning: that there is a way we can have it all – we can be fulfilled, do work we love, and create extraordinary results with others. He thinks of it as creating a sense of ease in business.

He learned how to coach and facilitate human transformation completing his coaching certification with Newfield Network and by working at Axialent, the culture and leadership company. After a few years, he founded Co-Creation Partners together with other leaders in the field of transformation and personal development. Then he formed Constancee to help people grow by creating the conditions where deep personal, interpersonal and organizational shifts happen routinely.

He leads Growth Leaders Network, the culture and team development consultancy. He has also taught coaching at Columbia Business School Executive Education and has contributed to Harvard Business Review. He is currently teaching a course on Climate Conscious Leadership at Arizona State University. His award-winning book, Taming Your Crocodiles: Unlearn Fear & Become a True Leader, was published by Dover in 2018.

His next book, Taming Your Crocodiles Practices for Leadership Depth, came out in 2020. Besides helping others grow, which he loves, he is a trained opera singer, enjoys hiking and writing, is an avid reader, in particular of biographies, and is always in the process of growing himself. He integrates all of what he learns in his work with executives.

James Frink and Paul Ebert with Two Maids and a Mop

Two Maids Franchising is one of the fastest growing residential cleaning franchise brands in the country. They currently have over 100 franchise locations operating across the nation. The company leverages technology to create efficiencies for customers, franchise owners, and professional house cleaners.

The residential cleaning industry is experiencing a surge in consumer demand due to the growing number of dual-income households and more consumers permanently working from home. Presently, more than 90% of the marketplace is served by an extremely fragmented industry comprised of small Mom & Pop operators. The small businesses that currently serve most of the residential cleaning industry are notorious for providing poor customer service and inefficient, inconsistent cleanings.

The entire business model of Two Maids is designed to provide unique benefits to a consumer that cannot be replicated by a competing house cleaning company or individual. Our unique incentive plan allows for everyone to get what they want. Customers stay happy, employees make more money, and franchise owners grow their business.

Paul-Ebert-Phoenix-Business-RadioPaul Ebert is a seasoned accounting and business executive, CPA, and business owner. He has extensive hands-on experience across several industries and all levels of corporate leadership.

This performance-based approach encourages excellence and is the primary reason that Inc. Magazine recognized us as one of the fastest growing cleaning companies in America.

E115 Moving at LitheSpeed with Sanjiv Augustine

In this episode of Project Management Office Hours, PMO Joe welcomed Sanjiv Augustine, CEO and Founder of LitheSpeed. Sanjiv shared his story and the origins of LitheSpeed. We also hear challenges that organizations are facing and to overcome them. We learn about the Value Management Office, VMO, and how do you go about setting one up.

Sanjiv Augustine is an entrepreneur, industry-leading agile and lean expert, author, speaker, management consultant and trainer. With over 30 years in the industry, Sanjiv has served as a trusted advisor to executives and management at leading firms including: Capital One, The Capital Group, CNBC, Comcast, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, General Dynamics, HCA Healthcare, Huntington Bank, The Motley Fool, National Geographic, Nationwide Insurance, Walmart and Samsung.

Sanjiv shared his insights on 4 keys to move from a PMO to a VMO. You can learn more about these insights by picking up his book, PMO to VMO Managing for Value Delivery. First is to transition from a project model to a product model. Second, moving from large batches to small batches. Sanjiv said, “Now in today’s world, because things are moving so much faster, it’s much better to say what is the smallest piece of value that I can deliver to my customers as quickly as possible?”

Third, is to track business outcomes or value and not just outputs. Lastly, is to shift from command and control, top-down management to leadership and collaboration. Sanjiv stated, “So, in a nutshell, project to product mindset, change large batch to small batch, tracking outcomes towards value, delivery value, not just outputs. And then transitioning from command and control to leadership collaboration.”

MHG Leadership Team Unwrapped E18

What went down in the world of commercial real estate in 2022? Carla’s fellow members of the MHG Commercial leadership team join her for a fun hour of what worked, what didn’t, and how much they missed Lish who couldn’t be there for the recording.

Listen in to hear the magic that happens when this ragtag group of amazing people get together! Find out what challenges they faced in 2022 and what they look forward to for 2023 as well as the typical overshare.

Nicholas-Skogen-headshotNicholas Skogen works in commercial real estate with MHG Commercial. Starting out as an investor in 2013, Nick learned how to strategically invest in the ever changing market.

Looking to expand his knowledge in the local market, Nick became a licensed agent in 2017. Focusing on commercial real estate fit perfectly for an investor’s mind set to always consider the bottom line.

Audra-TravisAudra Travis moved from Ann Arbor Michigan to Tempe Arizona in 1992 with the intention of enrolling in Arizona State University teaching program with hopes and dreams of teaching Junior High School Science. She was placed in a teaching program in Tempe immediately. As it turns out teaching was not in her future.

During this transition Audra served as the maître de at various fine dining establishments further refining her customer centric views. Following the restaurant years, Audra worked for a family-owned Acura shop, writing service and co-founding the Phoenix NSX club hosting events and race days.

Audra developed an interest in real estate and felt that real estate, coupled with her previous experience, was a logical fit the foreseeable future. Audra had the pleasure to land her first real estate position with John Hall & Associates where she met John Johnson, co-founder and co-owner of Utah based builder, J. Ballard Homes. This position launched Audra into managing and operating the property management arm of J. Ballard Homes in Salt Lake City.

However, Audra was not done. She saw a need for yet another arm and after bringing the right people together, Park Place Homes was born, which developed a 42 lot luxury subdivision in the area known as “The Point of the Mountain” and created luxury homes named after Hollywood starlets such as “The Monroe”. She also created “The Design House” , which allowed clients to design and upgrade their home new homes for both J. Ballard and Park Place Luxury Homes.

The recession hit and Audra was forced pivot into flipping homes where she did the bulk of the work herself – leaving only a few items to the pros. Her favorite tools are the sawzall and 45 lb jackhammer! She also began seminar for first time home buyers and decided to approach one of her neighbors about investing in multifamily homes, which led to her first commercial deal. She worked in both commercial and residential real estate and coined the term “Rezimercial Agent”, but in November 2019 she joined Aaron Dutcher’s team, MHG Commercial Real Estate, to focus primarily on commercial real estate.

David-PierceDavid Pierce has been a resident and Realtor Broker in Arizona for 20 years. He earned his BS in Regional Development from the University of Arizona with a minor in Economics.

He is actively involved in the Scottsdale Area Association of Realtors (SAAR). David currently focuses on commercial real estate in all forms. From the tiniest piece of undeveloped desert land to a multi-billion dollar development projects, David has done it all and is an experienced leader.

David has worked for both large and boutique firms and secured his broker license in 2014. Early in his career, he graduated from SAAR Leadership Academy Class 9, shortly after achieving Rookie of the Year at Russ Lyon.

He also served as a day leader for SAAR Leadership Academy Class 10 and volunteered for Make-A-Wish® , SAAR’s Member Relief Fund, the South Scottsdale RMS Tour and most recently Scottsdale Mayor Ortega’s campaign committee.

His passions in life are family, friends and real estate. David loves the outdoors and as a life scout he grew up camping, scuba diving, hiking, boating, biking, running, swimming and diving. He enjoyed reading science fiction and played football.

Connect with David on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Aaron-DutcherAaron Dutcher’s career in real estate started in Y2K. He was reunited with a hometown buddy who convinced him that people actually did rent houses and a career in investment real estate was born. Since then he has encountered every aspect of real estate from residential to luxury, single family to development and raw land to commercial.

Always approaching each enterprise with his grassroots mentality and always focused in real estate investing. In supervising everything from VA assumptions to subdivision development, Aaron excels at out of the box thinking and transactions that require a more hands-on approach and ingenuity.

As an Associate Broker and Executive Director along with other skilled and ambitious people, he managed a real estate portfolio in excess of 500M and purchased/sold over 4000 properties during his administration. As a natural progression of real estate investing his first commercial deal was in 2004, and it hasn’t stopped. Never being one to let the market determine his outcome, Aaron is certainly not scared to reinvent his model to shift with the ebb and flow of the market. As foreclosures entered the marketplace, Aaron was able to lead the charge with his company at the courthouse steps to purchase thousands of properties, not only for individual investors but also for large institutional and REIT buyers. He then shifted into fix-and-flips alongside wholesale properties.

Aaron became a broker in 2006 and has been a branch manager, managing broker, and designated broker. From 2010 to 2015, along with his partner, he ran and operated his boutique brokerage. He was slowing down the pace, reducing the clients, and building multiple businesses. Aaron has owned and sold a number of his own businesses, subsequently giving him a knack for working with local and regional business owners to purchase and sell their own businesses as well as purchase and lease their commercial real estate.

About Our Host

Carla-Magee-MHG-Commercial1Carla Magee’s background is designed with the investor in mind. After obtaining her finance degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, she worked for large corporations like Boeing and Microsoft.
