It Takes A Village E83

In this episode, host Austin Peterson sits down with Jennifer Mullins, Program Director at Advocacy31nine.

Jennifer shares with listeners the importance of education within the foster care system. The proper education is critical in order for foster children to mentally develop and grow and be successful.

Advocacy31nine works with foster families to identify any additional care these children need such as children with learning disabilities. Lots of time learning disabilities are masked or labeled as behavioral problems, because they the learning disabilities go untreated or families/schools are unaware these disabilities exist. Advocacy31nine-logo

Jenny Mullins explains how kids would rather be the bad kid in class than be embarrassed because they don’t know how to do something such as read. So identifying these learning disabilities is key to helping the child be successful.

Tune in to hear Jenny share stories of previous families she’s helped and also how you as a viewer can assist their non for profit organization and make a difference in children’s lives.

Advocacy31nine is a local, grassroots nonprofit in Gilbert, AZ. Their mission is to advocate for the educational success of students in foster care in Arizona.

Jennifer-Mullins-Tycoons-of-Small-BizJenny Mullins is the co-founder and program director of Advocacy31nine.

Advocacy31nine started in 2017 from her dining room table and she is thrilled to see how the mission of advocating for the educational success of students in foster care in Arizona has continued since 2017!

Jenny draws on her experiences as a classroom teacher as well as her experience raising a child on the autism spectrum, as well as her years working with children in foster care.

She loves spending time with her family exploring various parts of Arizona, trying out various food from around the world, and getting schooled on the game of Uno by her 12 year old daughter.

The Secret Sauce E82

Thomas Inserra is doing big things for small businesses. During the pandemic, he noticed the imbalance of small businesses being shuttered mainly due to the lack of capital. It was through this need an idea was born to provide banking needs to small businesses, but they provide even more than that. Integro Bank provides value to companies with free peer data and specially trained bankers that will help small business owners maximize their potential.

Integro Bank has the “secret sauce” that is two-part: access to data and helping business owners understand their options in order to make informed decisions. We’re excited to see where Integro Bank is going and all the work being done to help small businesses achieve success.

Integro-logo-white

Phoenix based Integro Bank, a tech-based B2B start-up that recently received regulatory approval to organize and raise capital – has a Mission of helping small businesses grow and maximize employment. Integro Bank will be a digital bank with its proprietary Integro 360 consultation tool powered with impactful data analytics to serve the unique needs of small businesses.

The Bank’s primary market area will be the five-county region of Maricopa County in Arizona, Riverside County, San Diego County and Orange County in California, and Clark County in Nevada, with a major emphasis on Maricopa County. The Bank intends to have only one physical location as it will serve its clients through innovative digital services.

The Bank’s principal business office will be located at 16215 North 28th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85053. The proposed Bank has 46 Founders who have contributed $5.5 million or 20% of the minimum capital to be raised. The Bio’s of the highly experienced executive officers and board members are on the company website at: www.integrobank.com.

Thomas-Inserra-Tycoons-of-Small-BizThomas Inserra has 30+ years’ banking experience including leadership roles at Pacific Mercantile Bank, Susquehanna Bank/BB&T, HFC, Citibank, the FDIC, served as CEO and Board Member of a publicly traded FinTech and CEO of a bank Asset Resolution corp. He also serves as a Founder/Investor.

Thomas held subsequent roles in Phoenix, AZ and Washington, DC at the FDIC during a major economic crisis helping to manage 747 distressed banks with $402 billion in assets. This experience allowed him to witness the incredible negative consequences that can occur during cyclical economic down cycles that are bound to occur, when some businesses and banks are inadequately prepared to weather challenging times.

This led to the realization of the importance of long-term planning, good governance, risk management, revenue diversification, measuring performance with metrics and studying best practices – to improve the sustainability of businesses and banks.

After helping to successfully turn-around a Southern California small business bank, Mr. Inserra returned home to Arizona and was quite dismayed to witness the harsh negative effects that COVID had on small business, and upon learning that Arizona ranked near last in the nation in PPP support of small business, and remembering the tremendously positive impact that small business employment had in transforming his own life, he felt a calling to do his part to help small business at a time when they most needed help.

Thomas shared his observations with other leaders – that banks were offering standardized products rather than rolling up their sleeves and providing customized consulting solutions like INTEGRO360sm – which is the solution that Small Business really needs to maximize growth. Soon, a Board and Executive team devoted exclusively to helping small business was formed.

Clint Richardson with No More Critters

No More Critters is a specialized pest control company. They keep scorpions, roaches, spiders, and other general pests out of their clients homes by sealing them out of a home they have the privilege to work on. No More Critters is in business to protect families in their home from getting stung, especially children. They do not use pesticides or require maintenances to maintain success.

They accomplish this by first coming to your home and performing an inspection and hear from the customer where scorpions or other pests are getting into the home. They charge by the linear foot, so a measuring wheel is taken around the entire foundation to figure out an exact quote that will not change during the entire buying process. No-More-Critters-logo

Once the customer decides to have a home seal done they come back on a different day and seal the home. Sealing the home takes a caulking that they use and trust, sealing the entire foundation that can be full of gaps and spaces from construction imperfections.

No More Critters will also seal the eves of the roof up to the first floor to prevent scorpions from getting into the attic and eventually a customer’s living space. They will come inside and check the plumbing underneath the sinks in the bathrooms and kitchen to make sure there are no oversized holes that pests can come in from the wall voids. Finally, a 3-year limited warranty is issued to each customer that goes against the workmanship of the seal.

Clint-Richardson-Phoenix-Business-RadioXClint Richardson had been in the pest control business 7+ years prior to owning No More Critters. While collecting experience in pest control and learning about all different kinds of pests and pest behavior, he realized that home sealing is an extremely effective service. He used it several times to make sure he satisfied his monthly, bi-monthly, and quarterly customers.

One day, as he arrived to a brand new customer’s home who had just arrived in Arizona, he was greeted outside by the entire family, which was quite unusual. When they arrived to show the children their new home, their little 2 year old boy jumped out of the car without shoes and attempted to run up the stairs to see his new room. He didn’t make it but a few steps, as he was stung by a scorpion right then and there. The boy went into convulsions and a hospital trip was needed. He was okay after treatment.

After telling him what happened, and why they called for pest control, they asked him what other options there were besides treating the home with pesticides. Clint told them he could seal the home and educated them on what that meant. There was no hesitation in their agreement to get the home sealed. They were customers for a long time after, and they never saw another scorpion in the home.

Clint’s mission is to make sure that this doesn’t happen to any more children under his company’s care. This is why he started No More Critters and why he only installs home seals.

E91 Transitioning from the Military to Project Management with Art García, Curtis Brown, Cathy Christian

In this episode of Project Management Office Hours Art García, Cathy Christian, and Curtis Brown join PMO Joe for an enlightening discussion about veterans, project management, and mentorship.

One of the themes from the show is a helping hand goes a long way. “Communicating, connecting and mentoring; you’re building your network and the person you help today may be the person that helps you tomorrow.”- Art García. Mentorship can be one of the most influential parts to a successful military transition. Creating safe outlets for a new professional can make all the difference for them.

A great mentor supplies positive influence, guidance and the direction that the person wants to take. “It’s about trying to get people to change their aperture. How can I get this person to open their aperture? Kind of think outside of the box. What are the things that you’ve done? And when you see the light bulb goes off.” -Curtis Brown

Art, Cathy and Curtis provide great leadership to veteran service organizations such as VPMMA, NOVA Job Outreach, PMI, and Onward to Opportunity. “You don’t even recognize what you’re doing, how helpful and impactful that is to the folks that you’re helping. Because to you, it’s just a conversation. It’s just a natural thing that you’re doing. Then when they come back and tell you what an impact it was, you’re like, oh! I had no idea.” -Cathy Christian

How Arizona Became the U.S.’s New Semiconductor Central E20

Semiconductors are the nation’s fifth-largest export, accounting for $49 billion in 2020. As the U.S. looks to increase chip production and fulfill its semiconductor needs on its own, Arizona is quickly emerging as a base for the industry’s growth and success. In fact, Arizona has skyrocketed to No. 3 in the nation with 107 semiconductor establishments operating here including Intel, TSMC, Microchip, onsemi, NXP and many others.

In the Arizona Technology Council’s November 2021 episode of AZTechCast, Phoenix Business RadioX owner and president Karen Nowicki was joined by Angela Creedon, Arizona Public Affairs Manager for City, County and Higher Education at Intel; Alex Iuorio, Senior Vice President of Supplier Development at Avnet; and Bianca Buliga, Director of Marketing & Communications at the Arizona Technology Council to discuss Arizona’s transformation into a leader for new semiconductor investments.

Throughout this hour-long episode, this panel of experts painted the picture of just how prevalent semiconductors are in our day-to-day lives, including the cars we drive, the computers we work on and even the rice cookers we prepare dinner with. As Alex said it best, the increased “electronification” of society is leading to a surge in demand in semiconductor manufacturing and usage that isn’t going away anytime soon.

Founded in 1968, Intel’s technology has been at the heart of computing breakthroughs. We are an industry leader, creating world-changing technology that enables global progress and enriches lives.

We stand at the brink of several technology inflections—artificial intelligence (AI), 5G network transformation, and the rise of the intelligent edge—that together will shape the future of technology. Silicon and software drive these inflections, and Intel is at the heart of it all.

Angela-Creedon-Phoenix-Business-RadioXAngela Creedon is the Arizona’s Public Affairs Manager for County, City and Higher Education for Intel Corporation. Angela is responsible for developing and implementing strategic engagements with city and county officials as well as Arizona-based higher education institutions to protect Intel’s license to operate, enhance Intel’s reputation and ability to influence, as well as promote a favorable business environment that enables Intel’s growth.

Most recently, Angela was the Associate Vice President for Innovation Zone Development and Corporate Engagement at Arizona State University. During her 11 years at ASU, Angela managed community relations, local municipal and county relations, special events and corporate engagement. Before joining ASU, she was the East Valley Community Development manager for APS, the State of Arizona’s largest private electric utility, where she managed local municipal relations, community relations and economic development.

Angela has spent many years working in community and government relations and is presently serving as the Vice Chair of Fighter Country Foundation, an organization dedicated to serving the men, women, and families of Luke Air Force Base.
