Jennifer Strahan and Ben Sawyer

Business owners and leaders struggle every day to meet their goals and objectives, some living on the razor’s edge of making it or not making it, based upon whether their strategy is accomplished. It turns out that winning or losing in business comes down to being able to execute on your strategy – what coaches call “playbook execution”.

“Leader Dialogue” is a weekly radio show launched to help business owners and leaders win! The show’s format is to invite a business owner or leader onto the show and learn about their business, and what is working or not working for them. The hosts will then help identify a key business performance principle that could be applied to immediately improve their playbook execution performance.

The following week, the hosts will then unpack that principle in more detail for the Leader Dialogue audience. The process will be repeated every two weeks. The plan is to have fun and help business owners and leaders, and the Leader Dialogue audience, to become more knowledgeable and successful in their playbook execution in order to win and SOAR!

Briana Carson/Crave Pie Studio

In 2010, after being laid off from a corporate job of 20 years, Briana decided to go to culinary school. She entered school with a passion for savory cooking and a complete disdain for baking. Briana dreaded taking Baking 101.  She forged ahead though, and for the practical final exam she had to bake an apple pie from scratch.  As fate would have it, that was a pivotal experience.  Briana became entirely enchanted with all things pie!

Crave Pie Studio is an artisan pie bakery specializing in individual sized pies that are baked daily with creatively combined seasonal ingredients.

Lauren Winborne and Bryan Mulligan

Lauren Winborne/SteerSmart

Atlanta native Lauren Winborne became concerned about the highways and surface roads when her oldest of six children began the driving process. What began as a project with her husband of merely clipping out articles about crashes involving high school and college students in order to discuss them with their children, turned into the educational initiative and non profit SteerSmart.

Through years of research, Winborne has developed a unique one hour program centered around cars. The program is hardly a one dimensional “Don’t Text and Drive” or “Don’t Drink and Drive” initiative. Along with conversation around distractions and drugs and alcohol, there is a heavy focus on trucks, speed, seat belts and weather. There is also strong conversation around decision making, being a passenger, and the magnitude of what being a passenger means and back-up plans.

There are two SteerSmart programs. One is specifically for seniors in high school and college students, and one is for all high school students who are not seniors. The program for older students focuses on specific senior/college specific scenarios such as road trips, falling asleep at the wheel, sober drivers, Lyft vs. Uber, drinking at night, and getting a shared ride service or a designated driver, and then getting a DUI the next day while alcohol is still in your system and more.

SteerSmart has had programs in 15 states and has had multiple programs at the University of Alabama, Georgia Tech and University of Georgia. SteerSmart is free of all charges and is a 501c(3).

This edition of “The Tiffany Krumins Show” was recorded live at the offices of Product QuickStart in historic downtown Lawrenceville, GA. Tiffany’s guests were Don Muntner and Noah McNeely. They talked about how to turn your idea into a product, and then the steps to follow to take your product to market.

Don Muntner & Noah McNeely/Product QuickStart

Product QuickStart was created out of a passion to meet the product development, prototyping, and manufacturing needs of entrepreneurs, start-ups, and small companies. In their careers, they’ve met way too many inventors and would-be product entrepreneurs that have been taken advantage of in this industry, so they decided to do something about it. There is no shortage of engineers, marketing people, and “submission companies” that will gladly take your money and get you nowhere. That’s not Product QuickStart. Their goal is to be honest operators, and do everything they can to help clients understand what they are getting into and their odds of success.

TIFFANY KRUMINS

Tiffany Krumins, the first Shark Tank winner, is an Atlanta native and the inventor of Ava the Elephant, a child friendly dispenser that takes the fear out of taking medicine. Called a modern day Mary Poppins, Tiffany has gone from nanny to entrepreneur, and has seen her passion to help children grow into a business that is now known and loved all over the world.

Tiffany’s success story began when she was a nanny to a little boy with Down’s syndrome who was terrified of “medicine time”. To help alleviate his fear, she constructed an animal made of fabric, sponges, a store bought medicine dropper, and a recordable sound chip from a greeting card – and Ava the Elephant was born. Knowing that she would need to find a way to produce her invention, Tiffany began searching the internet and found a casting call on Craigslist that said: “Do you have the next million dollar idea but don’t have the funding to make it happen?” She immediately applied for the casting and was invited to be on the first ever episode of Shark Tank.

Her story has been a roller coaster ride as she went from being on a national TV show and receiving $50,000 to start her company, to learning just months later that she had thyroid cancer. While working from a hospital bed, she struggled through the growing pains of building a business and fighting cancer.

Tiffany’s appearance on Shark Tank and the success following continues to provide countless opportunities for her and her brand. Her story has received unparalleled exposure. Some of her more notable appearances and acknowledgements:

  • Follow-up appearances on Shark Tank on four separate occasions
  • Sharing her story and her product on the Dr. Oz Show to a national audience of millions of viewers
  • Nominated for the Top 50 Mompreneurs by Babble.com
  • Keynote speaker for Disney Social Media Mom’s
  • Her story has been featured on Forbes.com, Entrepreneur.com, TVGuide.com, YoungEntrepreneur.com, MomInventors.com and many other online and print publications

Philip Bernardi

“Beyond the Cupola” allows invited customers, community, and team members of Oconee State Bank to have an opportunity to share their stories of success and inspiration, and/or how the Remarkable culture of Oconee State Bank has inspired them to mark lives in their own right.

Philip Bernardi/Oconee State Bank

In the early 1900s, there were banks in all the small towns of Oconee County… Bishop, Bogart, Eastville, Farmington and Watkinsville. When the Depression came along in 1929, all the banks went broke and Oconee County was without a bank for the next 30 years. Farmers and small merchants had to travel to Athens for their banking needs.

In 1958, a group of community leaders recognized the need for a bank in Oconee County and started a process of getting the necessary approval for a state chartered community bank. In 1959, the FDIC approved a community bank and Oconee State Bank opened its doors for business on February 1, 1960 with 3 employees and a small corner office on Main Street in downtown Watkinsville.

Today, Oconee State Bank has 3 full-service financial centers located in Oconee County, GA as well as a website which serves as an “Internet Branch.” The vision of the founders continues today. Oconee State Bank is proud to provide an unparalleled commitment to personalized service, value-added products, and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities they serve.
