BRX Pro Tip: Lee’s Favorite Serendipity Story Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, one of the things that I love about this work, and I love so much about it is how just the serendipity, just the connections they get made that, at least, for me, I would never see coming. Do you have a favorite serendipity story?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:23] Absolutely. My favorite story of just kind of the randomness and the connections that happen in a show, especially where you’re giving everybody a chance to tell their whole story, and everybody is kind of engaged and listening intently was when we had in here the founder of the Fur Bus, which is a party bus that has fur in it. And the guy that runs that was the mascot from the Auburn Tigers. He was the tiger. And he’s telling the story about how Fur Bus started, and why it’s fur, and how mascots were part of his life.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:00] So, we’re going around the room, and that guy was probably in his mid-20s at the time. We get to the last guest, a guy named Bob Littell, who is a guy probably in his 60s or 70s, and he’s an insurance salesman, and he is part of the Netweaving and Pay it Forward Movement. And he’s a super sweet guy. And he, at the end, tells us, “You’re never going to believe this, but back in the day when I was in college, I was the Colorado Buffalo mascot.” So, in one episode, we had two people that were mascots at fairly large colleges in the same room. In my entire life, I had never met one mascot. And here, just randomly, there were two mascots on one show. So, that is my favorite story of serendipity in the studio.

BRX Pro Tip: How To Work A Networking Event Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] And we are back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, I was just at a networking event as recently as last night. How should someone in the studio, in the Business RadioX family work a networking event?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:21] I think this is one of the great benefits that we have and our clients have when they do any type of networking. No longer do they have to be the person at the networking meeting with their business card out saying, “Hey, buy my stuff,” “Hey, I’m the best blah, blah, blah in the planet. We should have coffee, so I can tell you how awesome I am.” What you can do as part of the Business RadioX family is you can put your media hat on, and you can go in there and say, “You know what, I’m looking for interesting guests. I do a show that’s about blah, blah, blah. Do you know anybody that would be a good guest for my show?” or you can say “My company sponsors a show about blank. Do you know anybody that would be a good guest for that show?”

Lee Kantor: [00:01:09] And a lot of times that person will say, “What about me? How about me?” And you’ve totally changed the whole dynamic of networking. It’s no longer about hoping that they pick you to have coffee with you. It’s you have something of value that they want, and that they want to be part of, and they want to connect with you. They want to open up their LinkedIn account and share names with you because they look like a hero because they’re connecting their people with you, and you’ve just flipped the table.

Stone Payton: [00:01:38] And I experienced this, I’m serious, as recently as last night. I mean, I was the belle of the ball. Well, John Ray, one of our studio partners, was really the belle of the ball. But I’m the cool radio guy that’s serving the community, and people have met people through us. It’s just a completely different — it’s a different positioning. It’s a different dynamic. It’s just it totally changes your presence and your approach in serving your community. And I think it’s one of those advantages of being part of the Business RadioX family that sometimes maybe we take for granted, and it is such a gift.

BRX Pro Tip: Are People Really Listening Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] And we are back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, I get this question occasionally. I know you get it some too. Do people really listen? And we have all kinds of things that we can share with them to suggest that yes, they do. But you have a story that you like to relate.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:21] Yeah. My favorite story when people ask if people listen is the one that we heard when we were at the Chamber of Commerce with Mike Sammond a few years back. He had, unbeknownst to anybody, an avid listener to the Gwinnett Business Radio program, and this was a banker from Columbia South America. And he would listen on his way from home to the bank because he had dreams of coming to America at some point and expanding his business into America. So, he was listening to Gwinnett Business Radio, found it on the internet. And eventually, he hired someone, from listening, a consultant that helped him with an international business plan.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:07] And then, from there, moved his business to Gwinnett County, and he stood up at this Chamber of Commerce meeting. And it was, I know, one of our proudest moments because we both had our wives there, and he said that everybody he knows, he knows through listening to Business RadioX and the Gwinnett Business Radio show. And it was a multimillion dollar business or, at least, a million dollar business at the time. And he stood up at the Gwinnett Chamber talking about how important Business RadioX was to his business and his career.

Stone Payton: [00:01:39] Well it’s just a sober reminder of how far our efforts really do reach and the level of impact you can have all over the country, all over the world, and like so much are around here. It just really feels good knowing that.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:56] Right. And you know that people in other countries are hungry for kind of what’s happening in America, and our platform allows them to hear right from the horse’s mouth the good, the bad, the ugly about business in America.

BRX Pro Tip: Who Would Benefit Most From A Show Transcript

Stone Payton: [00:00:01] Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, we talk a lot in these Pro Tips about sponsors, clients, hosts. Who, in your mind, would benefit the most from sponsoring a show on the Business RadioX network?

Lee Kantor: [00:00:19] I think the profile of a sponsor is somebody that’s in a competitive industry. They have to meet face-to-face with their prospect in order to build a relationship, in order to sell them something down the road. The challenger brand, you know I have an affinity for the person that’s in the challenger brand. These are the people that don’t have the money, typically, to run the billboards and be ubiquitous in the way that money can help you be. And this person is more kind of the grinder and the scrappy person that wants to, kind of, outthink the big guy.

Lee Kantor: [00:00:53] And I think that if they have to meet people that are hard to reach, that there’s no better way to have than having a show. I think B2B is a must. I think they have to be relationship-driven. I think that they’re the ones that maybe go to networking that don’t really love networking, but they know they have to be part of networking. And then, our platform allows them to really leverage networking in the best way for them.

Stone Payton: [00:01:20] And if you’re having a conversation with a person like this, a show concept strategy session or whatever, they meet all these criteria, and you’re finding that it, still, is just this uphill battle, then they’re just not a good fit, right. It’s nothing to get heartbroken about. And like you said, they’re not competitive rail. Let’s just go find the next one.

Lee Kantor: [00:01:37] Right, just keep moving.
