BRX Pro Tip: Give People a Reason to Reconnect
Stone Payton: And we’re back with Business RadioX Pro Tips, Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, we have addressed at some length in all of our work, including the Pro Tips series, this idea of being a connector. Connecting people. Talk a little bit about the art and science of reconnecting.
Lee Kantor: Yeah, reconnecting is just connecting. I mean you have a big network, so figure out ways to give people a reason to reconnect. I mean, it’s not that difficult. If your mindset is I want to be a person that builds and nurtures relationships, then you have to figure out ways to help people reconnect. You have to give people reasons to reconnect. Relationships don’t usually disappear because something went dramatically wrong. They disappear because people just kind of fade away. They kind of just get outside of each other’s radar and they just don’t see each other. They don’t talk.
Lee Kantor: And if you can just have systems in place that just make it easy for you to connect and have conversations with lots and lots of people, then this is not going to happen to you. That’s why good businesses deliberately create reasons to reconnect. And some ways to do that are through events, sharing information, making introductions. In our case, we do a lot of interviews. Or even just checking in, saying I thought about you or this came up and I thought about you. Or if you see something that they got a new job or something happened in their life, respond. Don’t just sit silently. You make an effort to just acknowledge it.
Lee Kantor: Staying connected shouldn’t depend on you remembering somebody’s name six months later. You have to have a better system than that. So today, go through your network, choose five of your most important relationships, and figure out a legitimate reason you can create to reconnect with each one of them. Especially these dormant relationships that you probably have hundreds of, pick five of those people and figure out a way to reconnect with each one of those people. You never know what opportunity is going to come up if you reconnect with these people.
Lee Kantor: And imagine if you do that every week, if you pick five people from your network that have gone dormant for any length of time, and every week you contact five of them, at the end of the year, that’s 250 people that you’ve reconnected with and rekindled a relationship with. That’s going to bear fruit. So, spend some time reconnecting with folks in your network.
