BRX Pro Tip: Do the Uncomfortable Thing First
Stone Payton: Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips, Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, I’m sure this isn’t uncommon. I get up every morning excited about the work we do. I feel like I’ve got a list longer than your arm. And sometimes I struggle with where to start. Man, what’s your approach to this?
Lee Kantor: I think a lot of people who are kind of productivity-focused are really doing this dance around procrastination. So they just load up a list filled with tasks, like check the emails, and organize the files, and let me just kind of keep tweaking this presentation that I have to make, and make sure I got all this stuff exactly right. And you feel busy and you feel like things are happening, but those activities aren’t really moving the needle, but they’re making you feel like you’re doing something. And a lot of times when you’re focusing in on this is that you really don’t know what to do. So, you’re just doing something, and something seems to be better than nothing.
Lee Kantor: But a lot of these activities that really grow a business are the things you don’t want to do, the things that are making you uncomfortable. Maybe it’s making that call. Maybe it’s asking for an introduction. Maybe it’s one additional round of following up or having some difficult conversation with somebody.
Lee Kantor: So today, the challenge is identify that one uncomfortable action that you know you should be doing, but you’ve been avoiding, and do that before you tackle some of the easier stuff on your list.
