BRX Pro Tip: Managing Time – Do Work That Matters
Stone Payton: [00:00:02] Welcome back to BRX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, let’s talk a little bit about time management, managing our time, managing the time around those who are working with and through us. Your take on this whole thing is, look, we’ve got twenty four hours, seven days. We’ve all got the same amount of time available to us. But your thing and you say it all the time, just stay focused on doing work that matters. Can you expand on that a little bit?
Lee Kantor: [00:00:32] Sure. I don’t like to use lack of time as an excuse because I think we all have enough time. Not only do we all have 24/7, I think that that’s enough time to do lots of things. There’s plenty of people out there that are kind of outperforming what some other people are doing, and they’re managing to get a lot done in the same amount of time. So, I think it’s important for anybody to really prioritize the work that matters the most and figure out a way to do that work as relentlessly as possible.
Lee Kantor: [00:01:02] And in order to do that in a kind of focused way, I think it’s important to create as many positive habits that you can do. Automate or outsource what you can do. And then, just keep rinsing and repeating until you’ve achieved that goal that you’re aiming for. And then, you’ve got to automate, outsource, and do the work that do the work that only you can do, automate as much work as possible, or outsource the work that you don’t want to do or isn’t kind of what you’re good at. And then, just do that stuff over and over again.
Lee Kantor: [00:01:38] If something is working, do more of it. If something’s not working, then stop doing it. It really doesn’t have to be that complicated, but you have to create these habits and put a machine in place to kind of execute the habits that matter as much as possible. And that might be you having to do some of the stuff that only you can do. But hopefully, you’ll find ways to automate or outsource the stuff that you don’t want to do or somebody could do better.
Stone Payton: [00:02:07] Well, when you were talking, I was thinking it makes me want to focus onROI or maybe the right acronym in this situation is ROT, return on time. Monitor that, see what kind of results you’re getting from it. And if you’re not getting a good return on time invested in this set of activities, then decide whether you need to delegate them out, or do something differently, or if you need to drop them altogether. But yeah, I think it’s key that we keep an eye on the return that we’re getting from the time invested on specific activities. So, that’s a very helpful reminder.
