How Integrated Medicine Can Help a Patient Live Again

Tracey Gardner Paulfrey, a Graduate of University of Florida with a Bachelors in Health Education, is all about building a community on a healthy foundation. Serving as a health and wellness professional for over a decade, the mother of two is dedicated to educating and empowering individuals to improve their lifestyle.

As the creator of Phit 4 Mothers and Owner of Moving Forward Health Care, Tracey is committed to reaching mothers outside the traditional healthcare settings and aims to develop a long-term partnership with various communities to improve maternal and child health.

Serving as a veteran Personal Trainer and Health Educator, Tracey seeks to help close the gap of Health disparities for ethnic groups as it pertains to obesity, Diabetes and PAD ( peripheral artery disease). Aiming to expand her platform, Tracey has joined forces with ETS wound care and SALSAL ( save a leg save a life) to bring awareness to communities.

Ladell Hill is more eager than ever to share his lifestyle with you. His entire life reflects what happens when knowledge meets passion and dedication. For him, health is the most fundamental aspect of life, and it continues to be misunderstood.

His belief that there is a secret to optimal health is supported by his personal lifestyle and client success stories. As a molecular health specialist, fitness trainer, herbalist, and wellness expert, Ladell’s methods are aggressively effective and professionally ethical.

He is a Certified Natural Health Practitioner and a Certified Holistic Nutrition Practitioner. With unparalleled knowledge of nutrition, cellular biology, and biochemistry, Ladell has become a standout in the fields of holistic health and healing.

Dr. Delores C.S. James is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Florida (UF). She is both a registered dietitian nutritionist and a health educator who has worked as a licensed professional in public health, hospitals, and private practice. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is licensed to practice to practice in Florida. She conducts research in obesity and weight management, health literacy, health disparities, mHealth, online health communities, and health education technologies. Her work has primarily focused on African Americans and low-resource communities.

Dr. James has expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research and is a trained focus group moderator. As the principal investigator or co-investigator, she has pursued more than $15 million in internal and external funding over the past eight years. She has authored or coauthored 52 manuscripts—40 of which were first authored and 16 of which were co-authored with students. To date, her manuscripts have had 2,357 reads and 924 citations. She has also presented 86 papers at national conferences and 20 papers at international conferences.

Dr. James is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Culture of Health Leader. This national leadership training program builds on her existing leadership skills to work with organizations, communities, health systems, and policymakers to build a Culture of Health in America. A significant part of her training focuses on: 1) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; 2) Communication Strategies; 3) Branding; 4) Community Engagement and Development; 5) Change Management; 6) Working with Health Systems, and Policy Makers; and 7) Working with Community Networks.

Dr. James is the Founder of the Electronic Community Health Advocacy Team (ECHAT), which is a research, advocacy, and education group. ECHAT develops and disseminates health education messages and programs using digital technologies to improve health outcomes, increase health equity, and create a Culture of Health in low-resource communities. ECHAT’s short health education videos have been screened at the Global Public Health Film Festival.

Dr. James is also the Founder of the blog, Keep It Tight Sisters (KITS). KITS help women to love their bodies, foster a nourishing relationship with food, and achieve their health goals. As part of her RWJF strategic initiative, KITS will expand and launch an online health community for women. The novelty of this project is that it will use Facebook as its platform rather than a healthcare web portal.

Dr. James is passionate about the holistic care and well-being of amputees. Her brother, George, lost a leg to diabetes. She also has extended family members who are lower limb amputees due to diabetes and accidents.

Dr. James is honored to be actively serving her community as the Chair of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee for the City of Gainesville.

Dr. Desmond Bell is the Founder and President of  “The Save A Leg, Save A Life” Foundation, a multi-disciplinary non-profit organization dedicated to the reduction in lower extremity amputations and improving wound healing outcomes through education, evidence based methodology and community outreach. His private practice in Jacksonville, FL, specializes in wound management and is dedicated to lower extremity preservation.

Dr. Bell was awarded the Frist Humanitarian Award by Specialty Hospital Jacksonville for 2009 and Memorial Hospital Jacksonville in 2018. He is a Board Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) having served on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Wound Management for 6 years and presently serving on the Board of the American Board of Wound Management Foundation. He has also been elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Dr. Bell has published numerous articles primarily pertaining to wound management and lower extremity amputation prevention and has served as an Editorial Board Member for the publication “Today’s Wound Clinic” since its inception. He is nationally recognized speaker, with regular faculty roles at AMP, ASCENT and Modern Wound Care Management.

Dr. Shalini Dosi Somaskanda PharmD, LMT, NMT, is practicing pharmacist and massage therapist, specializing in Neuromuscular Therapy and movement re-education. She currently works as a massage therapist at Concourse Athletic Club, and has a thriving private practice as well. With her background in both pharmacy and massage, Shalini brings a unique perspective to her practice, and empowers her clients on their self-care journeys by sharing her vast knowledge. She strongly believes that one can achieve optimal health by gaining proper balance in life, and continuously seeks to highlight the best practices of both eastern and western medicine.

Shalini is a member of the Health and Wellness Network of Greater Atlanta and is involved in other business networking initiatives throughout the Atlanta area, including The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE). She is a graduate of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, General Practice Pharmacy Residency program at Medical College of Georgia, and the Gwinnett College of Massage Therapy.

Rob Wilkins, is the Squash Director at Concourse Athletic Club. He has been playing squash for 25 years and was formerly a professional Squash player representing his country in the World Championships. Wilkins is from the UK, and has been living in the US for 6 years. 3 of those years have been spent in Atlanta.He is the Regional Junior Squash Director for the South and South-East of the US and also volunteers his time working with a non-profit organization called A+ Squash where he also serves as their squash director. Since starting in Atlanta, they now have the largest community in Atlanta of Junior squash players that are all nationally ranked and some that are making there way into the Top.50 in the US in their age groups. They travel extensively around the US competing in some of the largest events hosted by US Squash.

Originally from Mississippi, Keith Wilson is the Founder/CEO of Kompass Events, an event sharing start-up tech company that allows users to share, discover, and explore events in their favorite cities. Prior to starting Kompass, Keith excelled as a marketing executive at Ford Motor Company. Most recently, he led all future product strategies for the Lincoln Motor Company’s China division while based in Shanghai. He received his undergraduate degree at Ole Miss and his MBA at Clark Atlanta University and now resides in Atlanta, GA.

Welcome to the Courtside Grill… conveniently located in the Concourse Athletic Club at the Perimeter in Atlanta. They serve a variety of soups, salads and entrees along with a full bar. For those looking to complement a workout with healthy food options, Courtside Grill has a variety of nutritious lunches and dinners.

In addition they have a full catering menu for those offices in and around the Concourse and an in-house private dining facility that seats 20.

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy got to meet master trainer and dancer Jennifer Hall. Jennifer is the lead Ultimate Flirty Girl for Flirty Girl Fitness, Booty Beat. Jennifer shared her amazing weight loss story where she went from weighing close to 200 pounds to dancing onstage with Beyonce. She said having a goal that you are working towards is a great way to get you motivated to lose weight. Jennifer also has danced with Usher and Jay Z. Now Jennifer spends some of her time teaching dance in the Kinesiology Department at Georgia State University.  She also travels around the world sharing her love of fitness, dance and the Flirty Girl life with others.  She also teaches and still works as an active choreographer on projects as diverse as the TV show So You Think You Can Dance to professional and college dance teams.
