LorenENorthStylist

Personal fashion stylist Loren North is a former geologist who traded in her steel toed boots for high heels to pursue her passion for saving the planet by changing how we style, care and shop for our clothes.

She works with women and men who are frustrated with what’s in their closets, feel like they have nothing to wear, and usually don’t like to shop or don’t have time to go shopping.  Loren teaches her clients what works for their bodies, restyles their clothing in new ways allowing them to extract value from what they already own and shows them how to shift their shopping habits so they are more sustainable.

After working with Loren, her clients look pulled together, feel more confident and comfortable, and dress with ease. Her company is a personal styling consultancy focused on helping professional men and women show up powerfully each day looking confident and comfortable because their style and clothes work for them. Visit Loren’s website LorenENorth.com to learn more about how she can help you.

LorenNorthLoren’s personal journey to becoming a personal stylist started with shopping at thrift stores and consignment stores. She used to shop at typical retail stores but realized nothing in these stores was inspiring, but it was easy. She was in a style and shopping rut.

After a few years of casually shopping secondhand and increasing the amount of clothing she purchased from secondhand sources, Loren realized the huge amount of surplus clothes and accessories that are available. She also noticed that her style started to evolve and improve, as she wore the secondhand items to experiment and upgrade her style. The ah-ha moment came when she started to receive compliments on her outfits from strangers. The best part? Most of these clothes were from thrift stores.

She decided she wanted to bring that experience to her clients. She wanted them gain the confidence that comes from having the “right” outfit to wear, feel good about their bodies, and she wanted to show them how shopping at consignment stores is better for their style and the planet.

Loren’s mission is to change the way people think about their clothes, where they buy them, and make more conscious shopping decisions.

CIMG3087Today on the Chic Perspectives Show we shined the chic spotlight on 2 women entrepreneurs with inspirational stories of success.  They triumphed over obstacles, remained resilient in the face of fear and disaster and building thriving businesses with powerful value propositions.

First up was Judi Gerhardt, Owner of Career Fashion Consignment and an expert on professional image and non-verbal communication

Judi Gerhardt is a former political powerhouse, survivor of 2 hurricanes, a nasty divorce, chemo, & a spinal tumor. After her surgery and deciding that she’d had enough hurricanes, she moved back to Atlanta. In August of 2009, Judi launched Career Fashion Consignment. CFC is an extremely high end career clothing consignment store for men and women in Atlanta. Judi is committed to social & financial responsibility and helping Atlanta’s business community benefit from the retail excess of the last decade.

Judi Gerhardt is an incredible woman who was one of Maynard Jacksons campaign managers for mayor. She served as a political consultant for years in both Atlanta & DC until her travels took her elsewhere. She ended up in New Orleans where she owned a large equestrian farm for 16 years until Hurricane Katrina came in and destroyed everything she had built, including her 20 year marriage. Determined to stay in New Orleans and help rebuild, she was set to open another business when Hurricane Gustav came in and blew away that business, too. And, in the middle of all of this, her doctors discovered a tumor on her spinal column.

After her surgery and deciding that shed had enough hurricanes, she moved back to Atlanta. In August of 2009, Judi launched Career Fashion Consignment. CFC is an extremely high end career clothing consignment store for men and women in Atlanta. Judi is committed to social & financial responsibility and helping Atlantas business community benefit from the retail excess of the last decade.

Judi talked about what got her started in this business, what the company does and who their customers are.  Her business model actually serves two populations – those who bring in clothes for consignment sale and those who buy them.

We talked about how she came up with the idea to start Career Fashion Consignment (CFC)

Judi talked about some of the road blocks she has faced in her career and how she overcame them.

With such an interesting career with many twists and turns, Judi explained how she has been able to reinvent herself so many times.

We also discussed the green elements of her business.

Judi recommends women:

  • Shop Responsibly by Shopping Consignment
  • Pay attention to the impact of non-verbal communication & professional dress
  • Use consignment to get a return on your fashion investment   – I just love this way of looking at it
  • Understand the importance of social responsibility and the role consignment plays

Judi’s story is an amazing example of how resilient people can be, not to mention the art of reinvention and the business of social responsibility.Shes truly persistent, resilient, and the queen of reinvention. Judi is firmly committed to taking personal responsibility for her life and her happiness. She is truly an inspiration and a great example of someone who bounced back! Additionally, her commitment to helping Atlanta’s business community be more socially and financially conscious is a great story for the times we are living in.

Wondering what’s in style this season?  Well you’ve come to the right show.  Today I talked with Karen Hughes who is a Certified Image Professional and the President of Owner of Image Assets.

www.ImageAssets.net

Early in her life, Karen knew she loved clothes, having learned how to sew at the tender age of 10, but she had a passion for teaching.   Spending a decade in corporate America honing her presentation skills she found herself again drawn back to fashion and clothing – she has a degree in fashion merchandising. Taking time off to raise her 3 children she began to formulate her vision for a new role as an entrepreneur.

It was with a passion for education and love of fashion that Image Assets was created. With a mantra to help women “look good, feel great and have FUN doing it”, Karen creates workshops and events that teach you how to build a wardrobe for the lifestyle that YOU lead, whatever your stage of life!

By enhancing your image through better style and dress, you can enhance your career progression whether its up the ladder or out on your own as an entrepreneur.

On the show today we talked about the 3 F’s of Fashion (Fit, Flatter, Feel-Good),

as well as the 3-Keys to Building a Wardrobe (Core-Accent-Accessories).

Karen revealed the biggest mistakes women make in purchasing clothes and she also explained why alterations matter.

For more about turning your image into an asset, keep in touch with Karen @

Laurie Mandato
Laurie Mandato

Today on The Chic Perspectives Show, I had on Wardrobe and Style Consultant Laurie Mandato to talk about fashion and style.  As some of you know, my take on “style” has less to do with following the trends and more to do with finding yourself.  Laurie’s philosophy is also all about authenticity and she knows that people feel better when they look good.

Laurie talked about how she empowers women to be confident in the bodies they have, while giving them the tools they need to reach their own version of perfection.  Laurie talks about her passion for working with speakers, authors, executive leaders, coaches and consultants who are stepping into the spotlight and what they can do to match their image to their message so they can feel fabulous and confident in the role of speaker.

Laurie also talked about how she recovered from the fabulous SHINE event put on by Ali Brown in Las Vegas with some scheduled R & R out at Canyon Ranch – a resort I know all too well, having recently spoken there for a few days with my friend and business partner Ana Weber as part of our Your 48 Hour Day seminars.  Tips like this are available on Laurie’s website

Laurie also explains how what you wear on the outside is a reflection of what you feel on the inside and how to use colors, fabrics, and tailoring to enhance you inner light.

There is a strength that comes from expressing your authentic self, and when you find your individual style that you can wear with confidence.

Thanks Laurie for spending time with us today and sharing your Chic Perspective on how entrepreneurs can use style to maximize the first impression they make on others and increase their overall earning power.
