It’s always a good idea to clean your fresh fruit and vegetables. Rinsing them with water is a good start but with all the bacteria and pesticides on everything these days you may want to take up your cleaning a notch. This was is something you can whip up in bulk then transfer it to a spray bottle you keep near your sink so it is always ready for you.

Mix together some lemon juice, some distilled vinegar and some baking soda. Pour that into a big jug of water. Shake it up then pour some into your spray bottle. Now spritz that stuff on your fruits and vegetables while you wash them off with tap water.

Ice pops or popsicles are a great way to get your fruit servings in each day. And when you make the pops yourself you control the fruit and the sugar. Here is an easy banana berry pop recipe which can easily be modified for your your favorite fruit. Grab your blender throw in some frozen berries, a banana, some yogurt, some pomegranate juice and some honey to sweeten. The Fat Guy says sweeten with Splenda or don’t sweeten at all – its fruit. Blend away then pour into some popsicle holders and freeze. You can even go old school and pour into little dixie cups with a toothpick as the holder. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share a favorite fruit and nut salad recipe. We love adding fruit and nuts into our salads. Number one because it is delicious and number two it is because it helps us get in our proper servings of fruit and protein. You start this rock star salad with some baby spinach as the base then add your favorite fruits like strawberries, mangoes, or oranges. now add some nuts like pecans, walnuts or almonds – don’t go too nuts with the nuts because they have a lot of calories. Now add more veggies like olives, mushrooms or hearts of palm. Add dressing if you’d like – maybe a nice balsamic vinegar or go commando – without dressing.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain negative calorie foods. A negative calorie food is one in which the amount of calories it takes to digest the food is more than the amount of calories the food has. For example say a piece of broccoli has about 25 calories and it takes your body 80 calories of energy to digest that piece of broccoli then you have theoretically created a deficit of 55 calories. So according to this theory you are losing weight while eating certain foods. Foods that burn a lot of calories to digest tend to be healthy fruits and vegetables like: berries, celery, grapefruit, cabbage and cauliflower. Sounds a little fishy but eating more fruits and vegetables are good for you. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
