We welcome Peggy Titus Hall and Linda Minnick to our show today as they describe the launch of their teleseminar series, “Developing Your Dream Job”.

For those in our audience who are already in transition or about to be, the major question facing many in the military is “What’s Next for Me?”.   Peggy and Linda will describe the steps necessary to identify, target and land the job or career you really want.

Don’t get caught in the trap of an attractive salary to find yourself miserable in the every day job.  That happens to too many people who allow fear, uncertainty and doubt guide them into a job based on compensation versus finding  fulfilling attributes in the work.

Historically, we know 9-15% of veterans leaving active duty will choose an entrepreneurial path.  Before you take that journey, be sure that’s what you really want by listening to Peggy and Linda.

Remember it’s “BE, DO, HAVE” and not “DO, HAVE, BE”.

BE, DO, HAVE:

  • BE who you really are:  Be honest with yourself and what you like to do and what you don’t like to do.
  • DO what you do best:  Know your strengths, skills, interests and apply them in your work.
  • HAVE the life you’ve always wanted:  Be clear about what you’re trying to achieve and by when.

Avoid DO, HAVE, BE:

  • DO what you think is expected by others.
  • To HAVE all the trappings of success.
  • To BE the person you think you should be, you’ll only end up unhappy and bitter.

Tune in to the “Developing Your Dream Job” teleseminar on June 25th, from 7 to 9 pm Eastern as the first step.

Linda Minnick is a certified life coach, motivational speaker, certified sales trainer and entrepreneur.  She has been involved in coaching and training for more than 25 years.  As a true believer and practitioner of transformational thinking, Linda presents the power of creating your own life in various fashions to individuals and groups across the country.

Mission Overview –The Warrior to Citizensm (W2Csm) mission is to help returning soldiers and their family’s transition from the front lines to the home front and deal with symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Warrior to Citizen’s goal is to help soldiers face a variety of social, economic and mental conflicts that may arise after they return stateside and ensure any assistance or counseling is offered before trouble turns into tragedy.

An estimated 370,000 military men and women return home every year after extended tours in war zones around the world. Their arrival affects another million people including spouses, children, parents, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends.

Nearly every warrior is affected by the ravages of war and face challenges due to the abrupt transition from life on the battlefield to civilian life.

The Veterans Administration reports that nationally, 18 Veterans commit suicide EVERY DAY and another 40 Veterans attempt suicide EVERY DAY.

Veterans are the highest percentage of people who are considered HOMELESS,  and veterans are much more likely to become divorced, especially after the multiple deployments now common policy throughout the US military.

The Warrior to Citizen Project is specifically designed to target troops during that critical transition period in the weeks after returning home by providing high quality, focused psychological and spiritual counseling for the warrior and their family in a peaceful setting that will nurture the healing process without outside distractions.

This is accomplished with one-month long residential programs filled with counseling sessions, interactive family activities and outdoor exercise in beautiful surroundings.

The W2C Project has been specifically designed to help our returning troops to make the transition to civilian life by providing a time and space for balancing body, mind and spirit of the warfighter and military family and support systems.

Many of the troops will experience the impact of the emotional unseen wounds of war and have a difficult time transitioning along with their family back into society.  Even without PTSD, most troops need an “adjustment period” to decompress in a non-military environment and a program that provides time and space supporting “family systems” so important to the veteran.

Their family systems are highly impacted—this impact can be directly related to the stress of combat from multiple deployments and the inability to decompress from the “battlemind”. A negative force-multiplier is a lack of proactive community support/guidance, education, counseling and training of the military commanders, warfighter and families during pre-deployments, deployments and post deployments.  The Warrior 2 Citizen Project will provide solutions to these issues based upon a National Guard best practice model; and others.

And, a big Thank You to Dennis Brown, U.S. Army, retired after 30 years of service and a tour in Afghanistan, for stopping by the studio today and bringing our attention to the Warrior 2 Citizen program.

On the outside of the Supreme Court it reads “Liberty and Justice for All” It is unfortunate, however, that justice is often only available to those who can afford it A recent study shows that working Americans and their families face a myriad of legal issues on almost a daily basis, but only about 60% actually sought out the services of a lawyer to help them. The study showed that Americans forgo or avoid help because of cost, access and trust issues. Dr. Vernon Allwood and Mr. Alistair Edwards discuss how the Legal Shield program can provide low cost affordable legal services to the average family.

In addition, there will be discussion on the fact that identity theft is now becoming the number one crime in America. The focus will be on the importance of having identity theft protection, particularly since Georgia leads the nation in identity theft crimes.

We will also make comments on how Human Resource Departments are using the Legal Shield, Identity Theft program to reduce absenteeism, increase productivity and decrease employee stress.

Dr. Vernon Allwood

Dr. Allwood received his Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees from Queens College of the City University of New York, and his Ph.D in counseling education from Fordham University in New York.  He served as a mathematics and science teacher in the New York City Public Schools for more than ten years.  After receiving his advanced degrees, Dr. Allwood served as the Director of Counseling at John Jay College in New York, Associate Director of Counseling at Morehouse College and as the Director of Community Relations and Special Projects at the Morehouse School of Medicine.

He has extensive experience in the development of mentoring programs and is a founding board member of the International Mentoring Association.  While at Morehouse College, he developed the Morehouse Mentoring Program where college students served as role models and mentors for elementary school children.  This program acquired national recognition by receiving the Thousand Points of Light Award from President Clinton.

While at the Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. Allwood developed several initiatives to increase the numbers of African American students in the educational pipeline for careers in biomedical science and the health professions.  One of the highlights of his career was the development of the Benjamin Carson Science Academy and the establishment of the Carson Scholars Program in Atlanta. His research interests include the development of models for the reduction of violence and antisocial behavior among inner city youth.

Dr. Allwood also has been engaged as an educational consultant for charter schools and the National Health Museum where he helped to develop standardized test taking skills for minority students and women. He recently joined Legal Shield as an Independent Associate where he is actively engaged in helping families to gain access to the legal system, as well as have adequate legal representation to protect them from identity theft.

You can reach Dr. Allwood via email.

Mr. Alistair Edwards

Mr. Edwards serves as Vice President of Group Marketing at LegalShield. He specializes in helping Businesses & Gov’t.Offices to improve their bottom line, by helping to decrease employee absenteeism rates. This is attained, through providing much needed Identity Theft Restoration and Employee/Business Legal Plans.

Today, all across the U.S. & Canada, employees are suffering from various “pressures of life.” Whether it’s being an Identity Theft victim, having garnishments, hassles by creditors, child support/child custody issues, traffic violations, forclosures, bankruptcies, life/auto/home/medical insurance issues, etc., these issues can cause employees to miss valuable time at work – which adversely affects their paychecks. These issues can also cause your business to suffer, or even close, due to absenteism or low productivity.

As a Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialist, Alistair’s goal is to educate business owners and their employees on the growing problem of Identity theft, every 4 seconds someone becomes a victim of identity theft. What we see on tv with all the catchy tunes and women speaking like men men speaking like women only covers the financial aspect of Identity theft and that is only 26% of all Identity theft, there is so much more, 5 areas in all.

Legal Shield is also Certified in Group sales and Small Business Legal Programs. They help small business with benefit packages that create better employee relations and retention, at no cost to the company! In this litigious society that we live in it is paramount that small businesses protect themselves and have legal guidance. We specialize in individual as well as small business plans with affordable rates.

You can contact Mr. Edwards via email.

Our featured guests today are Lorna Rasmussen, Regional Manager for Legal Shield and Bill King, founder and president of Axxiom Franchise Advisors, and we’re talking about How to be in Business for Yourself for less than $500.

In the franchise consulting industry, we are constantly challenged by never wanting to say No to someone with entrepreneurial desires. Most franchises require a significant financial commitment that prevents many from achieving their business interests.

Today, we are talking about a proven business opportunity, providing needed professional services, for “wannabe” entrepreneurs and an investment of less than $500.

Sound too good to be true? Not at all.

However, like anything else in life worth having, this business requires a personal commitment to be successful.

First, let’s meet Lorna Rasmussen:

Lorna was born in Canada and started her professional life as a documentary film producer with the National Film Board of Canada, producing films focused on issues of concern to women and families. She was fascinated by how people met challenges in their lives and overcame them. Her films reflected a real belief in the ability of people to triumph over adversity.

While she loved producing films, she longed for something that would put her in more direct contact with people. She became a personal coach and trainer with the Success Motivation Institute (one of the earliest companies in the field of personal development) and was certified to train and support clients in the areas of time management and goal setting.

At the age of 40, with a young son and a husband in a career transition, Lorna realized that she needed something that would provide her with greater financial rewards. Film production, teaching (She had been an adjunct professor in universities in both Canada and the US.) and coaching had been personally rewarding but had not provided her with the financial compensation she needed.

Her search introduced her to the direct sales industry and it was there that she found everything coming together. It was personally rewarding to help others achieve their dreams, it was financially rewarding and it allowed Lorna to use all the skills she had been developing over the decades.

Lorna quickly became one of the top producers with LegalShield. She developed a marketing team across the US and Canada and was honored as a Millionaire Club member in her first decade with the company, having earned over a million dollars in commissions. She is one of only a very small number of women to reach the top position in her company.

Lorna believes that direct sales has the answer for work/life balance in the lives of women and is a powerful alternative for anyone seeking a new career or exploring business ownership. To share her love of the profession and the information that made her successful, Lorna began writing books on the subject.  Two books in a series were published in 2009: The Absolute Best Way for Women to Make Money, and a similar book focusing on African American women.

Today, she continues to use her experience to do what she has always done – support others in the realization of their success. She coaches, speaks and writes. She has produced three very successful books and co-authored others with writers like John Fogg and Robert Allen (Guerilla Network Marketing, It’sTime … For Network Marketing and Direct Selling Power).

If you’re not impressed with Lorna’s career history, you’re not paying attention!

I think, especially for women veterans and/or military spouses interested in having their own business with a high quality organization, a proven business model providing a needed service,  low cost of entry, no costly inventories to buy, excellent training, continuing strong support, offering flexibility for your time, home based and delivering the quality of life that most seek; Legal Shield offers a virtually unlimited opportunity.

It’s not for everyone but with the right skill set and determination, this can be an amazing opportunity.
