E61 – Details of the Dramatic Changes to the PMBOK 7th Edition

Are you familiar with the upcoming changes to the PMBOK? What do you think will be the impact to our profession and community? In this episode Cyndi Dionisio and Mike Griffiths share the details on the PMBOK 7th edition update.

After 50+ years and 6 editions of the PMBOK, PMI is taking the PMBOK 7th edition in a different direction. The changes to the Standard and Guide are meant to align with the evolution within the industry. The working draft is a move towards a Principled-based Standard to apply regardless of your delivery approach.

A focus of the 7th edition is to move from Outputs to Outcomes. This is a significant change to the approach as the Knowledge Areas and Process Groups will no longer be in the PMBOK. We learn instead about the 12 Principles and Performance Domains. The key point of the discussion is that the PMBOK is undergoing a major re-write and will make a significant impact on our profession and industry.

E51 Solutions for Coping with Stress During the Coronavirus Pandemic from Susanne Madsen

How are you coping with stress during the COVID pandemic? Of course, most of us have been impacted by the pandemic. Some are required to work remote, projects have been placed on hold, or even worse we have been furloughed or laid off.

During this episode we chat with Susanne Madsen discussing how best to deal with the stress of the current situation and she shares lessons from her Project Leadership Coaching and the several books she has authored. Susanne joined us from London sharing how the pandemic has impacted her, what we can do to minimize the stress during these unprecedented times, and the A-ha moment which lead to her career change.

We get so many great nuggets from this chat with Susanne. Project Managers often focus on tasks over people and Susanne shares how we benefit as PMs by focusing on people first and tasks second. A technique she suggests is we set our own ground rules and then the ground rules for the team. Listen in to hear what else Susanne shares with us and learn more about her book The Power of Project Leadership.

In the process of supporting technological and engineering advances, Blue Sphere Solutions has evolved to become a leader in the understanding and development of successful project focused change.

Areas of focus include neurosociology (the intersection between factors influencing sustainable individual and social change), instruction, facilitation, strategic development, and the design of tactical implementations. bluesphere2RGB

Change adoption is more a matter of perception and inclusion than it is understanding the specification or objective elements of technologies, processes or systems. A wholistic approach toward coordinating service and understanding outcome focused work enables sustainable solutions.

Steve-Fullmer-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXSteven Fullmer is president and chief technology officer of Blue Sphere Solutions and a staff instructor focusing in project management and business analysis course development and delivery for Interface Technical Training. joe-radioorigJoe Pusz started THE PMO SQUAD with the intent to help as many organizations as possible get better at Project Management.  He was a PMO Leader within Corporate America and felt the struggle.

The struggle to get their organization to commit to Project Management, to truly invest in Project Management building a Competitive Advantage.   It was a challenge to find others within their organization who were as passionate about Project Management as he was.  To find his tribe, Joe knew he had to build the SQUAD!

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness.

Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, serving children in every community in the United States and in 50 countries worldwide. Together, generous donors, supporters, staff and 33,000 volunteers across the U.S., grant a wish every 34 minutes, on average, somewhere in the country. Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 285,000 wishes to children in the U.S. and its territories; more than 15,300 in 2016 alone.

Jessica-Kuhn-on-Phoenix-Business-RadioXJessica Kuhn was born in San Diego, California to a family of technologists, gamers, and artists. After receiving her degree in English/Writing at the University of California – San Diego, her innate desire to demystify complexity, to understand and be understood, and to unite “the why” with “the how” led her into a career as a business analyst, project manager and operational strategist.

Over the last 18 years, Jessica has supported the launch and development of startups in the fitness and video game spaces, and led teams within Fortune 500 companies like Sony Network Entertainment in seeking clarity in chaos without compromising flexibility. E43 Barbara Trautlein with Change Catalysts

Do you know your IQ? We are all familiar with IQ as a measure of our Intelligence. There has also been a lot of buzz about EQ and our understanding of Emotional Intelligence. In this episode we learn about CQ as a measure of our Change Intelligence with Change Management expert Barbara Trautlein.

This was a fascinating discussion that helped me better understand change concepts from Barbara who is the creator of the CQ System for Developing Change Intelligence. Barbara shares the meaning of CQ and provides easy to follow examples to relate to our own experiences. She walks us through her model and the meaning of leading with Head, Heart, or Hands.

After taking the CQ Assessment I learned that my Change Leader Style is Coach. What is your style? Are you a Coach, Visionary, Executer, Adapter or another Change Leader Style? Listen in to hear Barbara explain the different Styles and how we can use this understanding to improve our ability to deliver successful change initiatives.
