Timo Kirschner is Vice President, Supply Chain at Purchasing Power, LLC, an e-commerce voluntary benefit company offering the leading employee purchase program through the convenience of payroll deductions. Kirschner led the logistics, B2C purchasing, customer service and sales teams, and implemented foundational improvements resulting in significant efficiency gains while setting the foundation for high double-digit growth. Kirschner previously served as the chief operations officer at brands4friends.de, a $200MM eBay subsidiary based in Berlin, Germany, where he oversaw the logistics, operational excellence and customer service teams. He helped improve the company’s profitability and scalability by redesigning business processes and improving the integration of external business partners and service providers.

Before this, Kirschner worked for UTi and DB Schenker, two of the world’s largest logistics service providers, where he oversaw large supply chain projects and optimizations serving customers in various industries in Europe, Asia, South America and North America.

Kirschner holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Lance D. Roberts serves as Branch Manager at Becker Logistics – a third party logistics company based in Glendale Heights, IL. In this role, he oversees all aspects of the sales and operations for the Irving, Texas facility. At the age of 47, Roberts has been involved in every aspect of the industry. He has spent 31 of his 35 years of business experience in management and leadership positions.

A visionary entrepreneur even at a young age, Roberts found ways to make money, selling roses from his mother’s garden and going door-to-door in his Canyon Lake, California neighborhood selling candy. He also held garage sales, selling items around his parent’s house to make money. He paid cash for his first car at age 16 – a 1978 Honda Accord. Roberts spent the first ten years of his professional career at the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association in California, starting as an assistant to the golf pro, and then moving into administration where he was city maintenance manager. He later worked for Gottschalks department store in San Bernardino as a dock worker, and was promoted twice within two weeks to the role of shipping/receiving manager.

In 1997 he spent five years with Roadway Express in operations management. During his tenure at Roadway, he successfully completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from University of Phoenix. Roberts attributes his promotion at Roadway and successive opportunities to the bachelor’s program. Roberts ran his own company as a truck broker/agent for Freedom Express. He then joined JTS in April 2003 as an agent in the Fresno office. Bringing a small book of business to the company, he quickly developed the dairy division within two months and as a result was promoted in 2003 to Director of Sales for the Dairy division. He left JTS in 2009 as VP of Sales and Marketing and then in 2010 he Open RLS a $65M 3PL & RTC a 20-truck operation.

In 2012 Roberts sold the two companies and worked as VP of RMX then in 2016 he opened a consulting firm. Roberts successfully turned around 5 companies & a few M&A due diligence projects including a 100-unit trucking company and helped 3 start ups before joining Becker Logistics. Roberts while working at JTS, received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2007. The masters program prepared him for the working world using real life business applications of the principles taught in the classroom for courses such as business, finance, sales, and human resources – all of which contributed to the creation of the JTS, RLS, RMX and many of the turnaround strategic business plan.

Roberts resides in Fort Worth, Texas along with his wife Amy, step daughter Asha and son Logan and has one step son in college in Wisconsin. He is an ardent supporter of charitable organizations such as MDA, United Way, and Habitat for Humanity CEC and is active with his local church. Jeff Frankish serves as Managing Director for KRAIBURG TPE Corporation (USA). As Managing Director, Jeff has been responsible for KRAIBURG TPE’s North American division and business operations since January, 2008. After earning his college degree in Marketing from Miami University in Oxford, OH, Frankish began his career in plastics in the early-1980’s working for one of the major US chemical companies progressing through positions in sales, financial planning, product management and commercial development.

His first involvement with the TPE industry began in the early-1990’s when he accepted a business development position with a joint venture company which was spun off from the parent chemical company. Frankish subsequently hired on with one of the major North American plastics compounders in 1997 where he advanced through several different commercial management roles, ultimately to the position of commercial director for engineered compounds just prior to his joining KRAIBURG TPE in August, 2007.

With over 35 years of professional experience in the plastics industry, Frankish brings a diverse business background into his management role. Jeffrey “Jeff” Y. Lewis is a partner in the Business Litigation Practice at Arnall Golden Gregory LLP. Mr. Lewis practices in both state and federal courts, doing both trial and appellate work. He practices dispute resolution for large and small companies and individuals, both in the United States and abroad, in widely diverse industries.

Mr. Lewis focuses his practice on all manner of business disputes, the subject matters of which range from a breach of contract for renovation of a chemical storage tank, breach of contract for hospital linen services, indemnity claims on shipping contracts, real estate disputes, assisting a foreign manufacturer in a product recall with the U.S.  Consumer Product Safety Commission, representing a franchisor in disputes over franchise and guaranty agreements in the fast food industry, trade secrets for proprietary yeast strains in the ethanol industry, pharmaceuticals license agreements, defense of manufacturers in product liability cases, defective construction products, beer distribution rights, and representing a foreign manufacturer of equipment for the cable television industry. Other matters include a claim against a client’s health insurance provider over reimbursement obligations, inter-generational estate litigation over a will in Georgia, a defamation and tortious interference claim arising out of the World Trade Center disaster on Sept. 11, 2001, and numerous restrictive employment covenants.

In addition, he has represented a company accused of negligent inspection in wrongful death/personal injury cases arising out of an explosion and fire at a sugar refinery. Mr. Lewis has litigated cases and handled mediations and arbitrations in areas including healthcare, biosciences, pharma, logistics, building materials, business defamation and tortious interference, class action defense, commercial paper, computer hardware sales, computer software licensing, construction disputes, estate litigation, family business, false labeling, fast foods, global commerce, insurance coverage claims, labor and employment and non-competition agreements, letters of credit, secured transactions, trade secrets / computer theft and the Uniform Commercial Code.

Mr. Lewis was also a professional actor from 1985 to 1992. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and served on the Board of Directors for the Southeast Playwrights’ Project and the Georgia Shakespeare Festival. Mr. Lewis has performed in the “A Courthouse Line” charitable productions of the Atlanta Bar Foundation. Mr. Lewis also served on the Vincent J. Dooley Library Endowment Fund Committee at the University of Georgia and participated in Leadership Georgia. He is a panelist on the “Neil ‘Hondo’ Williamson and The Georgia Bulldog Allstars” radio program. He is a member of the Alumni Board of the Westminster Schools, and is an elder and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church. He has also participated in the Liberty Fund, and in YMCA Indian Guides/Princesses, and as a football coach for the Northside Youth Organization. He served on the international Board of Trustees for the Institute of Industrial Engineers, is Past President of WERC Atlanta, and is currently involved with APICS Atlanta. He is a certified adult education trainer and has presented to/trained over 1900 people. Laura Lee Bocade is a Market Development and Green Team Leader for DIRTT Environmental Solutions, a Calgary-based manufacturer of prefabricated, sustainable interior construction solutions, representing DIRTT in the Savannah and Coastal Georgia region. Laura Lee’s mission is to develop and build local, state and regional community partnerships and to ‘spread DIRTT’ – central to DIRTT’s progressive approach to corporate social responsibility, sustainability, disruptive innovation and grass-roots philanthropy. Laura Lee graduated with a B.A. in Journalism from Central Michigan University and has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resource Management. Laura Lee worked in Real Estate Development for years as Director of Operations for Medallist Developments’ Savannah Quarters, worked for the President of The Coastal Bank and as Chief Operating Officer for Innovations in Contemporary Furniture in Atlanta. Laura Lee’s early career years were on Seventh Avenue in the fashion industry, based in New York City where she spent months each year travelling across Europe, Japan, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Mexico, India and other international locations sourcing materials, developing relationships and locating manufacturing opportunities, negotiating contracts and establishing production facilities for multiple brand-name designers’ many product lines.

Laura Lee is a member of the Georgia Association of Manufacturers, The Georgia Manufacturing Alliance, Women in Manufacturing (WiM), the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) as the 2018-2019 Chapter President, is VP of Marketing on the APICS Savannah board, is a member of World Trade Center Savannah and is on the Advisory Council of the Savannah Economic Development Authority. She serves as President of the board of Mountainfilm Savannah, is co-licensee and board member of TEDx Savannah, a member of Metropolitan Savannah Rotary, is on Savannah Technical College’s Community Council and is a long-time member of the Jenkins High School of Engineering Business and Education Advisory Board. Laura Lee was awarded a STEP Award by the National Association of Manufacturer’s ‘Women in Manufacturing’ (WiM) Institute in 2015 and was honored to deliver the 2015 Georgia Southwestern University Commencement address. She has championed DIRTT to win numerous awards and accolades, most recently the 2018 World Trade Center Savannah International Business of the Year Award, the International Georgia Business of the Year Award for Medium Company in 2016 and the Georgia Manufacturer of the Year for Small Business Award in 2013.

Savannah Business Leadership Series: Erich K. Schmid

Erich K. Schmid is cofounder and President of Business Intermediary Services, Ltd. He is a 35-year veteran in the mergers and acquisitions arena. In 1974 Mr. Schmid’s corporate career began with The Babcock & Wilcox Company (NYSE: BWC) in the Power Generation Group’s Nuclear Equipment Division and in 1975 was promoted to its Corporate Planning and Business Development Department; and, following the acquisition of BWC by J. Ray McDermott (NYSE: MDR) in 1978, he joined McDermott’s corporate staff. In 1980 Mr. Schmid was selected by Tidewater Inc. (NYSE: TDW) to be its first Director of Corporate Development and served in that position until 1985 when he resigned and moved to Asheville, North Carolina where he joined a local business brokerage firm and specialized in larger transactions. During his nine years with a general business brokerage, he performed valuations of several hundred businesses for buyers and sellers and was involved in over 100 transactions. In 1994 Mr. Schmid and the late William J. Fass founded Business Intermediary Services, Ltd. to focus solely on transactions in the lower middle market in the U.S. and Brazil and U.S. – Brazil cross-border transactions. Mr. Schmid has both a B.S. in Industrial Management and M.S. in Management from The University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. Mr. Schmid also studied Strategic Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Business. He was instrumental in founding the Carolinas-Virginia Business Brokers Association (CVBBA) and served as its first president. Mr. Schmid is a member of the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors (AM&AA) and is a Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor (CM&AA). He is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (AGG) – Charlotte Chapter. He is a licensed real estate broker in both North Carolina and South Carolina. Mr. Schmid is a proud veteran of the United States Army; and, is a member of American Legion Post 205 (Bluffton, SC) and is the Post’s Golf Tournament Chairman. Tania Allen is originally from Venezuela and is now a US citizen. She worked in the Oil Company (PDVSA) in Venezuela as an IT professional, a network administrator, and a project leader.  Her team was tasked with updating network infrastructure in PDVSA’s buildings in the capital.  As such, she’s been deeply involved in network infrastructure upgrades and cutting edge technology since 1990. Tania was also an entrepreneur in Venezuela, starting companies that sold fashion and accessories, performing IT upgrades and network wiring, and various other consulting engagements. She has degrees in IT, in Digital Engineering, in Nursing, and a certification in cybersecurity from Georgia Tech.
