In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain some facts about walking that will help inspire you to get moving. I use my FitBit everyday and on days when I don’t make plans to exercise i walk about 4000 steps. I have to make a concerted effort to go for a walk in order to hit the 10,000 steps everyone says you should walk each day. FYI every 2000 steps you walk equals a mile. In America we walk about half as much as we should. The Swiss walk about 9000 steps a day and in Japan they walk about 7000 steps a day. Make sure you store your vitamins in a cool dry place in order to keep them potent. If you keep them in the bathroom they will degrade pretty fast because of the moisture and humidity of your shower. Humidity can degrade the potency by as much as 80%. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their favorite vegetable soup recipe. I love vegetable soup – it is a great way to eat lots of vegetables and stay warm this winter. This recipe is a little crazier than the normal throw veggies in a pot and simmer. First gather up your veggies: carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, onions, etc. Roast them in the oven for awhile. Let them cool then throw them in your food processor and puree. Now throw all that into your chicken or vegetable broth to make a super healthy delicious soup that even your kids will eat. As the weather cools down soups are a great choice for meals. they warm you up and are filling without having lots of calories. Try this recipe if you love butternut squash. Roast the squash then cool then puree it.  Saute a bunch of veggies like red peppers, onions with garlic and ginger and white wine. Drink your coffee black or with skim milk and artificial sweeteners. When making a sandwich substitute most of the regular meat with a soy meat product then put real meat on the top and bottom of the stack of meat. This way you get the flavor of real meat but save a bunch of calories. This works great with bologna. And finally dilute all your full sugar sodas with water or sparkling water. In one skillet stir fry in olive oil onions, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, and spices. In another skillet scramble up some eggs. When they are both nearly done mix them together real good.
