In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how runners can actually train less and improve their race times. By cutting back on your regular training routine (up to 25%)  and incorporating some more intensive interval training, serious runners have been finding that they are actually improving their speed while training for less time.  Now if you just love to run and don’t care that much about shaving seconds from your race times then ignore this and keep doing what you’ve always been doing. But if you are starting to get serious and actually care about improving your race times then you might want to try a more vigorous interval training regimen. The Scariest Thing You Will See At The Movies This Summer is the Movie Popcorn Calorie Counts

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how many calories are in movie popcorn. If you want to see something really scary at your local movie theater this summer ask the guy at the concession counter for the amount of calories in each of their bags of popcorn. Once you see those calorie counts you’ll have nightmares.  At most theaters a large tub of popcorn has around 20 cups of popcorn and can get to 1200 calories, 980 mg sodium and 60 grams of saturated fat. And when you add butter and throw Raisinettes into the tub like the Fat Guy does, the number goes through the roof. If you want to go with the large tub then at least share that with your whole row or at least with the people sitting on either side of you. A better bet is the small – that usually only has around 6 cups of popcorn and is around 400 calories.  Now whatever you do – do not sneak in your own snacks – movie theaters make the bulk of their money from the concessions not from the movie tickets. So if you want to have a movie theater in your neighborhood support it by buying something from the concession stand. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how seasoning with rosemary can detox your foods while you grill. As everyone by now is aware grilling your food a t super high temperatures can release cancer causing toxins into your meat. So you’re supposed to marinate the meat so this does not happen. But marinating takes time and foresight which most people don’t have. So it seems that adding the spice rosemary to meat also detoxes it and reduces the carcinogens. Now all you have to do is like how rosemary tastes in order for this to work for you. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to prepare an orange. Most people just peel the skin off an orange when they are ready to eat one. Not Dr Fitness – he uses tools and technique. First cut the top and bottom off the orange with a sharp knife. Then score the skin around the contour of the orange. Then simply lice between the membrane of each orange segment. Or you can do what the Fat Guy does and just peel the skin off of it. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. When the weather gets warmer you are forced to wear less clothes so that puts more pressure on you to look good. So get outside and move more. But when you’re out don’t drink high calorie drinks like full sugar soda or beer drink more water. This will save you calories and keep you hydrated. Go to the beach. There are so many healthy activities you can do at the beach – bring a ball, go for walks, play in the surf. Just walking in the beach sand burns more calories than walking on a flat surface. Are There Really Negative Calorie Foods?

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain negative calorie foods. A negative calorie food is one in which the amount of calories it takes to digest the food is more than the amount of calories the food has. For example say a piece of broccoli has about 25 calories and it takes your body 80 calories of energy to digest that piece of broccoli then you have theoretically created a deficit of 55 calories. So according to this theory you are losing weight while eating certain foods. Foods that burn a lot of calories to digest tend to be healthy fruits and vegetables like: berries, celery, grapefruit, cabbage and cauliflower. Sounds a little fishy but eating more fruits and vegetables are good for you. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
