In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their favorite falafel and avocado spread recipe. Dr Fitness loves him some falafel and in his recipe he uses pinto beans  instead of chick peas and sometimes he’ll even use garbanzo beans. Throw in some cumen, cheese, crushed tortilla chips, egg white and some canola oil to make about 4 patties. For the spread use tomato, 1/2 an avocado and some lime juice. Put all that in a pita with some veggies like sprouts and carrots and you’ve got a healthy meal. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy ask does high fructose corn syrup really make you fatter than sugar.  For some reason people get all hot and bothered by high fructose corn syrup – some people say your body can really tell it apart form cane sugar while other people want to pin this sweet goo on the obesity epidemic. A recent Princeton study has added its opinion to the mix. They say all sweeteners are not created equal. In a rat study they found that rats who consumed high fructose corn syrup gained more weight than rats who consumed sugar. There you have it – if you are a rat their is a difference. If you are a human – the jury is still out. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. The Fat Guy Says Exercise is Like Cooking Not Baking. And He Knows A Thing or Two About Food.

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why exercise is like cooking not baking. The Fat Guy has a new theory about working out. Please share your thoughts and comments because it is a little controversial. He just started lifting weights again so that is what started this theory. He says you should work out like you cook not like how you bake. For example when the Fat Guy has 30 minutes at the gym he doesn’t carry a notebook with the names of exercises and the weight and how many reps he has to do, etc. He just wanders the gym and goes machine to machine trying to hit the major body parts. He sets the machine on a low but challenging weight then does one set at a very slow pace (as slow as 10 seconds per rep) until he can’t do another rep. If he feel like to doing more arms than legs then Bam, just like Emeril he does more arms then legs. This is opposed to those people who log in every rep like it’s a science experiment. They are following their work out like Duff from Ace of Cakes makes his Girl Scout Cookie cake. The Fat Guy thinks if you are more unstructured while you exercise you will stay compliant longer and get good enough results to keep you going. Dr Fitness thinks you need to write things down to get the most results in the shortest time. What do you think? Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Are You Making This Common Marathon Training Mistake?

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share the most common marathon training mistake and how to deal with it. The most common mistake when training for a marathon or half marathon is to not go for a long run each week? Remember, it usually takes 3 to 4 months to train for a marathon or other long endurance race. You need to experience what it feels like to be running for a long period of time – it’s going to take 2-4 hours to run the race. That is a long time to be alone with yourself without talking. You also have to acclimate yourself to the weather and the time of day you’ll be running. The best way to do those long runs are to have someone drop you off 15-20 miles away from you house and run home rather than run a loop that starts from your house then gets you home again. And do these long runs at the same time of day the race will be held if you can. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
