Someone has to lift the boxes of food and move them to the tables – it might as well be you. Run a charity road race before the big meal. Broken hips are one of the most common reasons seniors are hospitalized and incapacitated. Some of the ways to prevent falling at home, (which is a common reason seniors break their hips) are: to get rid of loose rugs in the house; also make sure stairs are well lit and clear of any object; put handrails in the showers, keep a flashlight near the bed for those late night trips to the bathroom; and put slip resistant trugs in the bathrooms. A recent report on the cleanliness of cruise public bathrooms uncovered some disturbing things. While the bathrooms look visibly clean only about half the bathrooms were properly disinfected. The germs found in the bathrooms could have been the cause of the recent outbreak of stomach illnesses on cruises. So remember when you are on a cruise or in any public bathroom make usre to wash your hands thoroughly with soap, water and lots of rubbing.
