Building upon his decade of “big law” experience with the reputable firms of Fisher & Phillips and Bryan Cave (formerly Powell Goldstein), and demonstrating the same entrepreneurial drive he admires in his clients, Todd founded Stanton Law LLC in Atlanta, Georgia. Seeking to combine the quality of large firm representation with the flexibility, responsiveness, and cost-effectiveness of a nimbler shop, Todd’s practice remains dedicated to the employer side of the employer-employee relationship. From on-boarding new talent and assisting with the development of workable job descriptions, personnel policies, and compensation plans, to guiding clients through sticky disciplinary, performance, and leave issues, to executing respectful and amicable separations, Todd provides practical bottom line-oriented legal advice to small and medium-sized employers.

When not working to represent the needs of employers, Todd enjoys hiking, landscaping, photography, and coaching youth baseball. He played NCAA baseball while at Washington & Lee University and his love of the game inspired him to coach the next generation of ball players. He’s active in the Georgia Bar Association’s Lawyers Assistance Program, serves as secretary for the board of directors of Buckhead Baseball, Inc. and president of the board of directors of Haygood United Methodist Church Weekday Children’s Ministries, and is a member of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Sports Network board.

Todd lives in the Atlanta neighborhood of Morningside with his wife, Ashley, their two sons, Parker and Griffin, and their rescue setter-collie mix, Hattie.

Brand New You: Austin Thompson

What is your value-added proposition? If asked to name three personal stand-out qualities, would you know how to identify them? What is your BRAND value? Are you aware of how people view you as an individual, or what impression you are leaving with them? What do people like Sir Richard Branson, Warren Buffet, Dr. Ian Smith, and Donald Trump have in common? They are all successful brands, who have their respective loyal following resulting from their knowledge and ability to connect with a base, and also for their aggressive entrepreneurial reputation. People build loyalty with those who they consider having vibrant personalities, a strong character, are responsible, and have something valuable with which they can connect. Whether you are an entrepreneur, corporate professional, college student, retiree, or unemployed, a strong personal BRAND is built on what makes you valuable, and the image you project with those in your everyday life.

Austin E. Thompson, Jr. was born in the village of Lodge, Georgetown, Republic of Guyana, South America, and migrated to the United States in 1977. He spent 15 years in Brooklyn, New York, before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia in 1992. Austin has been in the electronics engineering industry for the past 14 years in a dual role as Project Manager and EMC Compliance Engineer, and now works for Intertek Testing Services in Duluth as a Project Engineer.

Austin is a member of several organizations such as the Guyana Association of Georgia (GAOG), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Project Management Institute of Atlanta (PMI), and the National Black MBA Association. In his spare time, Austin volunteers actively with the Latin America Association, organizes an annual Youth Symposium and Family Fun Day for the GAOG, serves as a facilitator for the annual 100 Black Men of DeKalb’s Youth Conference, and assists with various political campaigns.

If you missed this one live, it is well worth tuning in to hear how this powerhouse of a lady makes things happen in the entertainment industry.  Karon Cook is an actress, Sports show host, acting coach and all around professional in the world of selling into the entertainment industry.

Elegant, strong and smart this person made me realize that it isn’t traditional corporate sales people that deal with the most rejection, it is Actors.  Think about it, going to audition after audition and receiving predominately “no’s” with no real reason why you have been rejected, would drive the majority of us Business to Business sales people nuts.  If I lose an opportunity to my competition at least I know, I was probably out sold (maybe, but rarely happens for me….ahem, cough, cough!?, ok, ok, only kidding) but in the case of an actor you can lose an opportunity and never know why….and then get up and go on another audition.    Talk about resilience.

And not only is Karon a gifted sales professional (although she doesn’t refer to herself in that way) she is also a passionate and intelligent Blogger.  After reading her posts on Karon Cook Sports Page it only deepened my already “mad” respect I have for this woman.  So I would highly recommend that you tune-in to this show to not only glean a few lessons on how to improve your resilience in selling in the B2B world but also listen to how she turns Stone and My (Stephen Cadley) world upside down as she uses her broadcast experience to interview Stone and myself.  This is a show not to be missed.

Til next time, Happy Selling and remember “Everyone is in Sales!”

Yanis Latsis emigrated to the United States from Latvia in 1989.  He came with his parents, being 14 at the time, because his parents sought a better life for him and his siblings.  In 1992, being a typical teenager, he had aspirations of a stereo, video games, dates, a car…  At the time, his brother was working for Outback Steakhouse, and encouraged him to also apply for a job there.  He started with Outback as a dishwasher in 1992.  In 1996, Yanis helped open the Suwanee location as the Kitchen Manager.  He continued to work his way up in the organization, and in 2003, he was offered an opportunity to buy into a partnership at the Gainesville location.  Five years ago, Yanis became the owner of the Suwanee location – a kind of homecoming for him.

One of the things that is very important to Yanis, and to Outback Steakhouse, is giving back part of his success to the community.  He is extremely grateful for the opportunities he has had to build a life for himself and his family, and now is committed to making an impact in the community that gave him that chance.  Yanis is joined by Gary Galloway, of Gwinnett County Senior Services today.  Outback and Gwinnet County Senior Services joined hands more than a decade ago to implement the Outback at Work program that has now generated more than $100,000 for Gwinnett County’s Seniors.  This money, donated to Gwinnett County’s seniors through non-profit Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services has been used to support Meals on Wheels, Emergency Home Repair and transportation, among other things.

As we near the holidays, Yanis and his team at Outback Steakhouse in Suwanee want to make sure that several hundred more people have something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.  As such, Yanis is opening his restaurant from 10 am to Noon on Thanksgiving Day to cook a free meal for those who would not otherwise have a Thanksgiving dinner.  Yanis tells us he is personally cooking these turkeys!

Outback Steakhouse in Suwanee is located at 145 Gwinco Boulevard, near the Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd exit of I-85.  They are now open for lunch!  Check out their menu here.  If you know of a senior that might not otherwise get a Thanksgiving meal that is in reasonably close proximity of the restaurant, please call Charlene Barr, Gwinnett County Senior Services, at (678) 377-6715, or email her at Charlene.barr@gwinnettcounty.com.

We want to thank Griswold Special Care for sponsoring today’s show.  Griswold Special Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Dallas and Atlanta for 20 years.
