This week we brought back CEO/Co-Founder of Frontline Selling, Mike Scher. He came by to share some insights on how his team is able to dramatically increase the number of appointments with prospective new customers for their clients. Mike shares the company’s story and how it got its genesis on their great-looking website this way,

“Every business has a story to tell. Our stories are powerful and we want to be able to tell them to people who are interested in buying our products and services. The key to successful selling is being able to tell our stories to more people more often.

The fun part is – that’s the business we’re in. We help our clients get more first appointments with people who are genuinely interested in talking to them – so they can sell more. It’s what we do every day. And we are very, very good at it.

Mike gave some examples of their approach for speaking with administrative assistants for key decision makers, tips for email contacts, recommendations for follow-ups, and how to leave a voicemail that is much more likely to result in a call back. We talked about some case studies where his clients have achieved significant growth in new customer acquisition that allowed them to (in fact, necessitated them to) add to their staff to handle the new growth. In fact, Mike shared the fact that the LOWEST level of growth his clients have achieved is 50% over previous new customer sales levels compared to prior to engaging their insourced/training or outsourced inside sales solutions.

We talked about Vivid’s innovative compensation/career track model that allows hair stylists to not only hone their craft, learning from world-renowned hair experts, but also build a business that offers a significant income within a few years’ time.

Liz said this about the salon: “Vivid is a full service hair salon in Morningside/VA Highlands. We will celebrate our 6 year anniversary on April 1, 2015. We currently have 11 stylists and 3 front desk/support staff. Our stylists start with us as an Associate accompanying an upper level stylist for 6 months then start behind the chair full time and working their way through our performance based level system. Everything we do is performance based, when a stylist reaches their customer service goals 3 months in a row, they earn a promotion/pay raise and move up to the next level. We have 5 levels in our system offering stylists about a 10 to 12 year career path to earn beyond a six figure income. Our ongoing referral program is built in to help stylists grow their clientele offering a reward to existing guests when they refer friends and family and rewarding those friends as well on their first visit.

We are a Redken Elite salon meaning we only use Redken hair color in our salon and we offer Redken and Pureology brand hair care to our guests for their at home needs as well. Being brand loyal to Redken and Pureology, awards us top level continuing education for our stylists and support staff as well. Arol Wolford is the founder of Manufacturers Survey Associates and Construction Market Data. Means Costing Company; Byggfakta of Scandinavia; and Cordell Construction Information Services of Australia. Arol was a early Board Member and Investor in Revit. John Loud, originally hailing from Boston, has embraced the spirit of Southern hospitality in all aspects of his personal and professional life. Devoted father of two children, John has worn many hats in his career: hockey player, comedy club manager, Delta flight attendant, political campaign worker, community volunteer and entrepreneur.

John’s primary focus since 1995 has been the establishment and growth of LOUD Security. From its humble beginning as a one-man operation in the basement of his home, to its role as a cutting edge leader in commercial and residential security, LOUD Security now employs over 40 people and services 6,000 customers. Most recently, John’s outstanding leadership was recognized by the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce when LOUD Security was voted one of the Top 25 Small Businesses of the Year for 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. LOUD Security also came in at the number 10 spot on The Atlanta Business Chronicle’s list of Top 10 security companies in 2010 and moved up to the number 9 spot in 2011. LOUD Security was also honored with the Kennesaw Business Association Business of the Year and the Acworth Business Association Business of the Year and the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the year for 2014. John was recently awarded the Kennesaw Citizen of the Year and the Mack Henderson Public Service Award for his commitment and dedication to the quality of life for the citizens of Cobb County.

Not only has John used his talent of integrating today’s technology with old fashioned service to his current business, he has lent his talents to professional and community organizations across the state of Georgia. From President of the Kennesaw Business Association, President of the Georgia Electronic Life Safety and Security Association, cooperating with local police departments to promote Georgia legislation that would increase life safety to his customers; John has been, and continues to be, an avid champion for the security industry.

Joel Pascaner/Jones and Kolb

Joel L. Pascaner is a tax principal specializing in high net worth individuals, privately held entities, partnerships, S corporations, estates and trusts, not-for-profit organizations, and state and local tax matters. He also has extensive experience representing taxpayers before the IRS as well as numerous other taxing jurisdictions.

Joel is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and The Leaderhship Team of the Tax Section of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has been an at-large member of the GSCPA Council. In addition, he has served as the Chairman of the Tax Section of the GSCPA as well as both the Federal Tax Legislation and the Georgia Tax Legislation Subcommittees of the GSCPA Tax Section, where he was involved in the drafting and introduction of proposed legislation. He is also a Past Chairman of the Depreciation Committee and the Tax Accounting Problems Committee of the NYSSCPA. Mr. Pascaner was a member of the GSCPA 2006 Tax Forum Planning Committee and served as Moderator at the Forum’s Luncheons with Georgia Tax Commissioner Bart Graham. He was awarded “2006 Distinguished Section Leader” by the GSCPA and served on their Task Force on Employment. Joel is a member of the Atlanta Tax Forum and the Atlanta Estate Planning Council. He is a graduate of the Philanthropic Advisor Leadership Institute and was awarded the “Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth Manager” by Atlanta Magazine for years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014.

Joel has authored numerous articles in professional and industry publications including the CPA Journal and the Taxation for Accountants.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Interfaith Disabilities Network and the Board of Trustees of Georgia Shakespeare. He is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Finance Committee of the Atlanta Film Festival.

Prior to joining Jones and Kolb, Joel practiced as a tax professional with Stephen M. Berman & Associates, L.L.C, Laventhol & Horwath and Peat Marwick.

Joel is a CPA and received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania as well as his Masters of Science in Taxation at the Long Island University

John Masters, CPA, PC

John Masters earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1969, followed by his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1975, and finally his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1979. During this period he was employed eight years in the Computer, Aerospace, and Electronics industries. During 1979 he was admitted to the Georgia Bar and received his certificate to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in Georgia and Alabama.

John has been active in professional, civic, and political activities throughout his career. He presently serves on the Georgia Society of Certified Pubic Accountants Professional Ethics Committee, and recently completed his term as Chairman of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants Tax Section. He has served as a SBA Score/Ace Volunteer Consultant, taught in the Junior Achievement Program and been a Future Business Leaders of America sponsor. He administered the “Call the Expert” on taxation program for 21 years at WGST News Radio where he also appeared as Tax Series Guest/Host. He has participated in various other radio and television tax related programs, testified at administrative hearings including the Georgia Special Council on Taxation, and held positions in other organizations.

John has taught courses at Oglethorpe University, Clayton Junior College (now Clayton State College) and the Becker CPA Review Course. For the last several years he has been an active member of the Dekalb Peachtree Squadron, Georgia Wing, of the Civil Air Patrol where he currently holds the rank of Major, and has been an active member of the Northside Atlanta Jaycees and the Decatur Dekalb Kiwanis Club. His is currently a member of the American Bar Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Georgia Bar Association, Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

John practices in Atlanta, Georgia principally in the areas of taxation and accounting, taxpayer representation before administrative bodies and tax tribunals, and related fields.

George Strobel / State Tax Credit Exchange

George is Director of Sales and Credit Strategy and Co-founder of State Tax Credit Exchange. He works with tax credit purchasers and their advisors to identify the most appropriate tax credit offering. George’s depth of experience and thorough understanding of the tax credit market as well as federal and state regulations ensures that buyers satisfy their tax liability objectives.

He is also Co-founder and Managing Director of Perigee Group, a boutique consultancy firm that provides investment, tax, estate and succession planning for high net worth individuals throughout the United States.

Prior to starting State Tax Credit Exchange in 2004, George was Partner at Arthur Andersen and served as Associate Director of the Arthur Andersen Center for Family Business. He has worked on financial and estate plans for many Forbes 400 individuals and family businesses throughout the United States.

George earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Davidson College, a master’s degree in Accounting and Tax and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia. He is an active member of the Georgia Bar and is a Certified Public Accountant in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. He is a registered Investment Advisor and a licensed Life Insurance Agent.
