Four Athens was formed to discover startups, build community, connect creativity, accelerate growth and invest in success. They work passionately every day with new companies to help them succeed which in turn helps Athens succeed. Four Athens exists to support the startup community.

The Open House featured demos by a selection of Four Athens companies, free food and drinks, and networking with some of the best and brightest in Athens. For the first time, they also awarded prizes for the best startup of 2013 and the best founder of the year.

He brings more than 15 years experience in the technology industry and combines a deep understanding of current technologies with the ability to articulate the application of these technologies in various business contexts and models. A highly versatile and proven entrepreneur, he has co-founded several ventures including, Vigilar, Inc, a leading network security technology firm; eLaunchpad, LLC, an early stage venture capital firm/incubator focusing on Internet infrastructure and network security technologies; and Resourcis, an executive recruiting firm. During his tenure at Vigilar, he conceived the company’s business plan and methodology, raised venture capital funding, recruited a talented management team and grew annual revenues from $0 in 2000 to $32M in 2005 in probably the most difficult technology industry climate. Jim Roberts with The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UNCW

Named one of the “40 Most Influential People Under 40” at the age of 30 by the Charlotte Business Journal, Jim Roberts’s experience with business development, life sciences, information technology and governmental agencies aligns with the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s vision for the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

He started an entrepreneur council in Charlotte called FirstRound during the technology boom in 2000. He was then recruited to the Asheville region to start the Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council (BREC) and Blue Ridge Angel Investor Network (BRAIN) where he hosted the annual Carolina Connect Entrepreneur and Venture Capital Conference.
