BRX Pro Tip: Boundaries
Stone Payton : Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, let’s talk boundaries.
Lee Kantor: Yeah, I think boundaries are important in business. And now that everybody has cell phones and texts, people think that there are no boundaries that they can text and call you at any time they have a question or a problem or an issue, and obviously they can do that. There’s nothing you can do to stop them, but you can choose to not answer and not reply.
Lee Kantor: So you can’t do business on other people’s terms and expect to live kind of a happy, balanced life. You have to set clear boundaries. Are you available nights and weekends? Maybe you are, maybe you’re not. But you decide. Do you take rush jobs, or do you have just standard timelines? You decide. Is it unlimited revisions or a set number? You decide. These aren’t rigid rules. They’re frameworks that protect you and your time and your sanity.
Lee Kantor: When you have boundaries, clients respect you more. When you don’t, they take advantage of you. And all of a sudden, they start kind of creeping more and more. They’re going to want more and more from you. So you just have to be able to say no. And you have to let the client know where the edges are. Because if you don’t create the boundaries, then you are going to be constantly at their beck and call.
Lee Kantor: At Business RadioX, we are very clear about our commitments, and we are very clear about what we will and will not do and what the deliverables are.
Lee Kantor: If you’re a coach, coaching happens during specific hours. Replies happen in a certain amount of time. Just that’s normal standard operating procedure. This kind of clarity lets you serve better because you’re constantly not kind of jumping through hoops that other people are throwing at you for no reason.
Lee Kantor: So, define your boundaries. What are your non-negotiables? When you communicate those clearly, you’re going to attract clients who will respect them.
