BRX Pro Tip: Curiosity
Stone Payton: And we’re back with Business RadioX Pro Tips, Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, today’s topic, capitalizing on curiosity.
Lee Kantor: Curiosity is something that I learned from hosting so many shows, and it was something that we talked about when we were creating kind of the training for new hosts. A lot of new hosts just kind of go question by question. And we always said you got to be curious. You got to not just move on to the next question. If somebody says something interesting or unexpected, don’t kind of just answer immediately, take a beat, reframe that, understand more, go deeper, go layers deep, ask why another time.
Lee Kantor: And this is one of those things, people aren’t curious enough. They’re not leveraging curiosity, because curiosity is where you really can understand the challenges or the problems behind the problems. Quick answers are only going to solve surface problems. And the best conversations are really driven by genuine curiosity, not prepared rote responses. People appreciate being understood far more than being impressed by someone’s knowledge.
Lee Kantor: So, instead of just kind of going for a knee jerk answer to a question, replace that response with another question. Ask another thoughtful follow up question and see where the conversation leads. It’s going to go a lot deeper if you ask more questions and are more curious. So, don’t just think that you have to respond with answers quickly. Respond with questions to learn more. Be more curious.
