BRX Pro Tip: Failure is Feedback
Stone Payton : And we’re back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, here’s a topic that you and I are absolute experts in: failure.
Lee Kantor: Yes, failure is part of being in business. Failure is part of being a human being, but you cannot let failure just stop you. Failure is feedback. A lot of people see failure as something to avoid at all costs. I think that is just not the right mindset. The shift has to be that failure is feedback.
Lee Kantor: Failure is learning what not to do and iterating around that. When something doesn’t work, the market is telling you something. You have to listen and make adjustments. You just can’t keep doing the same thing that isn’t working over and over and over. A sales pitch that falls flat is giving you a message. Your message is not resonating. Make some sort of a change.
Lee Kantor: A client who fires you is telling you something about your value you’re delivering. What are you going to learn from that? A marketing campaign that flops is telling you that the audience wasn’t there or the message wasn’t right. What are you going to learn? How are you going to move forward? The faster you get the feedback, the faster you can make an adjustment.
Lee Kantor: At Business RadioX, we’ve had plenty of content that doesn’t land, plenty of marketing that didn’t convert. Instead of treating them as failures and just closing shop, we treated it as data. What did we learn? What could we do differently next time?
Lee Kantor: So, reframe the failure as not as an end-all, but as just another piece of data that you’re going to learn from so you can move forward faster. Failure shouldn’t stop you. It should inform you, and you should move on having learned from it.
