BRX Pro Tip: Relationships Need Maintenance
Stone Payton: And we’re back with Business RadioX Pro Tips, Stone Payton and Lee Kantor here with you. Lee, I know I’m biased, but for my money, there’s not a more powerful tool on the planet or methodology than what we do here at Business RadioX to build real relationships real fast. But I want to kind of take it further. Okay, got this relationship started, you’re serving, now what? How do you keep it going?
Lee Kantor: Relationships aren’t kind of a one time thing. A relationship needs maintenance over time. And you can’t treat a relationship like it’s a transaction. It can’t be every time you’re talking to somebody, you’re asking them for business or asking them for a referral. Too many people treat this kind of networking like it’s a transaction. And that is just not a great way to be a good relationship partner. You can’t only reach out to people when you need something. It has to be deeper than that. It has to have more substance.
Lee Kantor: Strong relationships don’t work if all you’re doing is asking for referrals or introductions or favors. It has to be a two way street. And it requires kind of regular attention. The best time to strengthen any relationship is before you need anything from it.
Lee Kantor: I mean, in our work every day, we’re supporting and celebrating the folks in our network. That’s our job every single day. You know, we’re putting kind of credits in the bank of this relationship by doing that kind of work every single day. And then when we’re interacting with people, we’re not always asking them to buy something. We’re trying to find out ways that we can connect them with somebody else, or find out what they need and see if there’s anybody in our network that can help them get whatever that outcome they desire is.
Lee Kantor: So today, reach out to someone who has helped you in the past with nothing more than just a thank you, some appreciation, a check in on how you could be of service. Don’t ask for anything. Offer something. Be of service first. Do that a little bit this week and see if that pays some dividends.
