BRX Pro Tip: Unreasonable Belief
Stone Payton: And we’re back with Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, tell us from your perspective the role of belief, how important that is, how to apply real belief, especially when you’re trying to get something off the ground.
Lee Kantor: Yeah. When you’re starting something out, not only do you have to have a belief, you have to have an unreasonable belief. You can’t just go into something kind of halfway and think it’s going to work.
Lee Kantor: In order to really give something your best effort, you have to have an unreasonable belief in its success. Because if you don’t, no one is going to join you on the journey. And it isn’t – you can’t be kind of arrogant about it. You have to kind of just be all in about it. Because if you don’t believe it’s going to work, why would anyone else?
Lee Kantor: People don’t follow doubters. They follow people with conviction. When we started Business RadioX, nobody was saying, “Oh, that’d be great if there was a podcast about building local business relationships,” like that. No one was asking for this. On paper, it didn’t make any sense. But we believed in it, and we slowly attracted people who wanted to be part of it because it became real. And then, it just slowly grows over time. And people want to follow people who believe in something. Prospects feel it. Your partners want to invest in it.
Lee Kantor: And unreasonable belief is contagious. And so, the question I’m going to ask you is, what are you starting that requires this kind of unreasonable belief? And are you fully committed, or are you hedging? Are you one foot in, one foot out?
Lee Kantor: The moment you start doubting, everyone else will too. So, you’ve got to commit completely and go for it. That’s what’s going to make people want to join you.
