BRX Pro Tip: Your Origin Story
Stone Payton : Welcome back to Business RadioX Pro Tips. Lee Kantor and Stone Payton here with you. Lee, in your opinion, how important is it to consider and communicate your origin story when you’re in the professional services arena?
Lee Kantor: I think the origin story is probably your first most powerful marketing tool. That should be where you begin because people aren’t going to buy from your business. They’re going to buy from the people that run your business. And those people better be people they know, they like, and they trust.
Lee Kantor: So, your origin story is what is going to catch their attention and build that trust at the start. This isn’t some polished corporate narrative. Tell the real story. What was your why? Why did you start this? Why are you the right person to solve this problem? What is the problem you’re trying to solve? What were you frustrated with? That’s what people connect with.
Lee Kantor: When you tell your story well, prospects are going to see themselves in your story. They’re going to realize you actually understand their world because you lived it. And when you share the story consistently, relentlessly, over time, in your networking conversations, your sales calls, and your content that you create, in your bio, it should become part of your brand; all of this stuff are places that you should be looking to share the story and tell the story.
Lee Kantor: At Business RadioX, our story began because we’re passionate about building up local business relationships, and we created a platform that allows for real conversations with the people that matter most to us, so we can serve, support, and celebrate the business leaders that are in our market, some of which are attracted to us with our mission. And they become the people we work with.
Lee Kantor: So, I think it’s important for you to think about your origin story and frame it in a way that resonates with your ideal clients. Take 30 minutes out this weekend and write out your story. Why are you doing this work? What were you trying to fix? Once you get that clear, start using it everywhere.
