Cristy's KitchenNourishing and Healthy Food, with Cristy Kisner, Cristy’s Kitchen and Author of Cristy’s Kitchen (North Fulton Business Radio, Episode 712)

Cristy Kisner, owner of Cristy’s Kitchen and author of the cookbook by the same name, was John Ray’s guest on this episode of North Fulton Business Radio.  Cristy discussed the importance of understanding dietary needs and providing healthy, gluten-free, and dairy-free options for people with allergies or health issues. She shared her personal story of how her family’s health struggles inspired her to open a restaurant and create a cookbook with delicious, nourishing recipes. Cristy talked about the tasty dishes and offerings at Cristy’s Kitchen, her mission of promoting health and well-being through food choices, the importance of involving the whole family in the cooking process, and more.

North Fulton Business Radio is broadcast from the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX® inside Renasant Bank in Alpharetta.

Cristy Kisner, Owner, Cristy’s Kitchen and Author of Cristy’s Kitchen

In 2019, after a bankruptcy left her family with nothing, Cristy Kisner; her husband, Sebastian; and their five daughters moved from Peru to Roswell, Georgia, to give them a better future and to fulfill Cristy’s dream of opening a healthy café in the United States.

When the Covid-19 lockdown came, they never closed their doors, working sixteen-hour days for a year. In March 2021, Brandon Stanton, the creator of Humans of New York, became a regular customer and fell in love with the food at the café and Cristy’s incredible story. He wrote about Cristy and sponsored a fundraiser, and her moving story went viral, allowing the family to stay afloat and continue to live their American dream.

The food at Cristy’s Kitchen is gluten-free, dairy-free, organic, nourishing, and thoroughly tasty. Back in Peru, Cristy had developed her recipes after two of her daughters experienced medical issues ranging from allergic rhinitis to digestive problems to an autoimmune disease. They switched to organic ingredients; removed dairy, gluten, and processed foods from their diets; and got each diagnosis under control.

Her daughters’ special packed lunches gained the attention of other parents, and Cristy started teaching classes on healthy food prep, which evolved into the dream of having her own bakery and café serving sweet and savory baked goods, prepared foods, and more, many inspired by favorite ingredients from her native Peru.

She is also the author of a new cookbook by the same name, Cristy’s Kitchen. Cristy provides helpful health information and sources on the more unusual ingredients in the book, including those she’s refined into her celebrated gluten-free baked goods.

The delicious and healthful recipes in this book include favorites for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and desserts, including: Golden Milk Pancakes Spiced Pumpkin Smoothie Bowl with Caramelized Bananas Pear, Spinach, and Fennel Soup with Chicken, Avocado, and Cashew Parmesan Yucca Gnocchi with Carrot Greens Pesto Stuffed Poblanos with Lamb Paleo Molten Lava Cake Passion Fruit Super Gummy Candies.

The incredible stories and recipes in Cristy’s Kitchen will inspire you to cook and eat more healthfully, cherish the blessings in your life—and understand the miracles that can happen when love and determination go hand in hand.

Kassia Fiedor, Chef, Infused Holistic Kitchen and Author of Cocina Holistica (Time Well Spent with Julie Hullett, Episode 11)

Kassia Fiedor, Chef, Infused Holistic Kitchen and Author of Cocina Holistica, joined host Julie Hullett for a conversation about her work as a chef, author, and nutritionist.  Kassia shared her experience growing up and learning to eat holistically, her approach of eating in harmony with the body and land, her cookbook and maybe future cookbooks, how she nourishes herself with down time, and much more.

After the interview, Julie shared a Quick Tip about what to do when you’re considering taking on a home renovation yourself.

Time Well Spent with Julie Hullett is presented by Julie Hullett Concierge, LLC and produced by the North Fulton studio of Business RadioX®.

Infused Holistic Kitchen

For 10 years Kassia was a private chef, combining her knowledge of holistic nutrition and healthy culinary techniques to cook healing meals for people with dietary restrictions, food allergies, or living with an illness.

The last few years, she has moved into curating healing menus for spiritual retreats and private gatherings, and teaching private healthy cooking classes in her client’s homes. Her classes always have an educational component and a focus on cooking food in ways that boosts nutrient value.

Kassia Fiedor, Chef, Infused Holistic Kitchen, and Author of Cocina Holistica

Kassia Fiedor from Infused Holistic Kitchen is a Holistic Nutritionist, Herbalist, & Wellness Chef from California. Passionate about using plants, herbs, & vegetables as medicine, she encourages people to cultivate the connection between food & their health, and feel empowered to make healthy choices. Her food is infused with nutrient-dense, organic ingredients, usually from local farms. Her creations truly serve as medicine for the body & soul.

Kassia lived in Guatemala for 5 years where she shared her healing food through classes and cooking weekly meals for those with an appreciation for nourishing food. Amazed by the abundance of native superfoods, she fostered intimate connections with small organic farmers and artisans producing high-quality products.

In her debut cookbook Cocina Holistica, Kassia infuses ancestral ingredients into healing plant-based dishes. Drawing upon the magnificent beauty of Guatemala, she hopes to inspire renewed respect for indigenous plants in creative, modern recipes. Cocina Holistica is more than a cookbook – it is a memoir that reflects her deep love for nature, travel, and true healing through food. When Kassia travels, her passion is to infuse the plants from those areas into her dishes, creating a sense of place and connection. While this book celebrates ancestral superfoods in Guatemala, her hope is to inspire creative use of indigenous foods wherever you are in the world! Many vegetables will be familiar to you, but you’ll also learn about new nutritious and sustainable foods, most of which can be sourced anywhere or easily substituted. All recipes are gluten-free, dairy-free, and sugar free, with a focus on nutrient-density. Find it on Amazon, or directly from Kassia.

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Liz Weiss, author of No Whine with Dinner: 150 healthy Kid-Tested Recipes from the Meal Makeover Moms. Relax this book has recipes for foods your kid will really eat like mac and cheese, tacos, cupcakes and pizza. Liz says that most families think preparing healthy meals takes a lot of time; is too expensive and the kids complain anyway – so why bother. So she decided to create kid friendly nutritious meals that can be prepared quickly. Liz came on to share some of her best tips to get your kids to eat healthier. A great tip that she shared was to get your kids involved – let them pick a recipe out of the book and make it for the family – when kids have ownership they complain less and are excited and proud of their accomplishment. Another tip was to not have any chunks in your sauces – kids don’t like lumps – especially picky eaters. This registered dietitian had lots of do’s and don’ts when it came to feeding your family. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy  opened the show with Celebrity Chef and author Rocco DiSpirito.   Rocco had a lot to say about eating and health. He says that when he was growing up the dinner table was an important place for the family to bond. He said his family rarely are desserts or went out to eat at restaurants. He recommends that your family eat dinner together. He said that if you go out to a restaurant then enjoy the great food that the chef makes but just don’t eat a lot of it. He said some simple ways to get your kids to eat vegetables are: hide them in pizza and sauces; cook them properly and most importantly get them to get used to eating them when they are young. His go to ingredient is chicken stock – which he always has on hand to make soups and other healthy meals. He even had some dating tips for men – he said women love when a guy can cook a meal for their date. It is a very meaningful gesture that shows that you can take care of and nurture someone else. Rocco, shared some great cooking tips and recipes from his new book Now Eat This! Where he transforms a bunch of your favorite comfort foods into healthier, low calorie but still delicious meals. That book is of course a number one bestselling cookbook and you can find it at bookstores everywhere or online at Amazon. Rocco is also training for triathlons and had some tips about that as well.
