Christin Whittington/Energy Dancing in Balance Reflexology & Reiki

Christin Whittington, Energy Dancing in BalanceEnergy Dancing in Balance was founded in 2009. It is dedicated to using energy healing to help your body de-stress, relax and relieve pain. Reflexology, Reiki, and other modalities are each just a vehicle because, in fact, the body heals itself.

Reflexology is like a foot massage — but better! Pressing on reflex areas in the feet stimulates the corresponding organs, glands and tissues located throughout the body. This promotes blood flow, moves lymph (the body’s natural cleaning mechanism), and creates deep relaxation. (There are also reflex points on the hands and ears.)

Reiki (“Divine Energy”) is a Japanese technique of “laying on hands” to reduce stress, enable relaxation and promote healing. Reiki affects energy fields that surround and penetrate the human body, and helps restore the body’s natural, balanced energy flow. (“Ki” is the Japanese form of “Chi” — the Chinese word for “energy.”)

Both these healing modalities can help lower your stress level and your blood pressure, reduce pain, and relieve anxiety.

Today’s Senior Salute goes to Helen Whittington for her independence and dedication to Aging in Place.

A rare Atlanta native, Bob Carr tells us he grew up less than a mile from the Eugeria! Radio Studio!  He attended Sandy Springs High School, attended The University of Georgia, earning a BS degree in Psychology, then served in the US Army at Fort Benning as a Second Lieutenant.

After leaving the military, Bob began a career in the insurance industry.  He spent ten years running his own agency before selling it and founding Executive Adventure, with a mission of encouraging better communication and teamwork in business and corporate organizations.  After nearly three decades, Bob sold Executive Adventure, and started working with senior adults with cognitive impairments.  Having seen the impact on patients and their families first-hand, Bob connected with Second Wind Dreams to help them fulfill their mission of enhancing the quality of seniors’ lives through the fulfillment of dreams and education of families and senior care professionals.

Founded by P.K. Beville in 1997, Second Wind Dreams is a non-profit organization that seeks to experientially educate individuals with respect to what it’s like to live with a cognitive impairment such as is caused by Alzheimer’s disease and others.  The Virtual Dementia Tour provides a tactile experience that inhibits a persons natural motor and cognitive abilities.  After a few minutes in a darkened room, and having been asked to perform simple tasks, the participants then share their experiences with others in a facilitated feedback session.

For our listeners in Atlanta, there will be a Virtual Dementia Tour experience held on January 31 at the Holiday Inn in Roswell, located at 909 Holcomb Bridge Road, from 10 am to 1 pm.  If you would like to register, please call Candice at 678-624-0500, or email her at Candice@secondwind.org.  You may also visit their website at www.secondwind.org.

We want to thank Griswold Home Care for sponsoring today’s show.  Griswold Home Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Atlanta for 20 years.

Eugeria! Radio is excited to welcome back Dan Bourland and John Cowan. You may remember them from our February 17th show, but since then, they have developed an hour long presentation targeted at seniors who have questions about what to do about their home. Combining targeted market research and years of experience, they are helping seniors make educated decisions on a regular basis. Welcome back Dan and John!

Dan Bourland and John Cowan are both Texans! Dan was born and raised in Lubbock, attended Texas Tech, and has lived in the Dallas area for 30 years. John is from Houston, graduating from the University of Houston Business school in 1973. Interestingly, both Dan and John had different careers before deciding to move into real estate. Dan started his career in the Office Products business, and John in the Wholesale Materials business. John had a second career in Outpatient Imaging. Today, Dan and John are Realtors with Coldwell Banker Apex Realty. Both have the designation “Senior Real Estate Specialist” (SRES). The SRES designation is a certification demonstrating that these two gentlemen have made a commitment to serve the unique requirements of seniors in real estate. In addition to the purchase/sale of real estate, Dan and John also provide seniors with other options, including leasing and reverse mortgages. Dan can be reached at (469) 878-6391, or via email at dan@danbourland.com. Visit him on the web at www.danbourland.com. John can be reachedc at (972) 231-0363, or via email at john.cowan@coldwellbanker.com. John’s website is www.jgowanproperties.com.

While attending the University of Pennsylvania, Mike Bolla and some of his classmates became acutely aware of the need to protect our country’s freedoms as a result of Iranian hostage crisis, and enlisted in the Army.  Consequently Mike has a special place in his heart for veterans, their families, and the unique challenges many of them face.  After selling a successful trust business, Mike decided 10 years ago to give back to these veterans.  At that time, he assisted his father in applying and qualifying for Aid and Attendance benefits – a process that took him 14 months, and a great deal of frustration.  Coincidentally, a local pastor asked him to help a couple of parishioners through the process.  As a result, Mike spent a good bit of time evaluating the process, and streamlining an approach to assist veterans navigate it.  A year ago, Mike decided to expand the reach of his efforts by creating Heritage LifePath to provide a broader array of services to veterans.  Recently, Mike invited registered nurse Nancy Votta to join him in his work.  Mike is thrilled to be able to provide these services free of charge to the veteran.  If you would like more information, or would like to speak directly with Mike, please send him an email at info@heritagelifepath.org, or call (678) 602-9559, or visit their website at www.heritagelifepath.org.

We also want to thank Griswold Special Care for sponsoring today’s show.  Griswold Special Care has been a preferred provider of high quality, affordable in-home senior care in Dallas and Atlanta for nearly  20 years.

Upon graduating with a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University, Brad Culp would not have predicted that he would end up in the senior homecare industry.  Prior to acquiring the Atlanta Northeast Office of Griswold Special Care, he spent the bulk of his career in management consulting.  About nine years ago, Brad began investigating small businesses to acquire.  After a lengthy search, he and his wife Leasa found an opportunity to combine business and mission, as Ginger O’Shea, the founder of the Atlanta Northeast Office of Griswold Special Care decided to retire.  A year later, Brad opened the Dallas North Office of Griswold Special Care, now managed by Kevin Reitz and Dennie Moore.  Looking back, Brad says, “I love being in this business, making an impact on peoples’ lives every day!”

About five years ago, Brad was introduced to Sam Grass through a mutual acquaintance.  After a number of conversations about the home care business, Brad and Sam decided to team up to expand the coverage of the business to Northern Gwinnett and Forsyth Counties.  Though we try to ignore the fact, Sam was born, raised and educated in West Virginia.  Sam spent 20 years in the managed care industry before determining very deliberately that he wanted to be in the homecare business.  Eugeria! Radio has adopted Sam’s mantra as its closing for every show:  If the youth of this nation is its greatest national resource, then it stands to reason that the seniors of this nation are its greatest national treasure.”  Sam has committed his career to preserving this treasure!

To find out more about Griswold Special Care, call either Sam or Brad at (770) 908-0707, or visit them on the web at www.gscatlanta.com.

glenn, Shelly compressedOriginally from New York, Shelly Glenn started her career in home healthcare, infusion therapy and pharmaceuticals.  About seven years ago, Shelly moved to the Atlanta area, changed jobs, and changed industries.  After a few years away from healthcare, Shelly found RC Cancer Centers, and accepted a positions as Vice President of Marketing.  For 25 years, RC Cancer Centers has specialized in dealing with cancer patients where radiation is an appropriate therapy.  They take a wholistic view of the disease, involving specialists from multiple disciplines, including a wellness component.  Shelly tells us that this business is personal for everyone involved, noting that nearly all the staff have had close friends or family members impacted by cancer.  Shelly is particularly excited about the upcoming Prostate Cancer Symposium being held Saturday, April 2 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Morehouse School of Medicine.  The Symposium will feature a panel of physcians providing information to support better prostate cancer treatment decision making and raise general awareness regarding prostate cancer treatment and diagnosis.  Tickets are free, and complimentary breakfast and lunch will be served.  To get more information, or to sign up, visit www.georgiaprostatecancerpledge.com.  For more information about RC Cancer Centers, contact Shelly via email at sglenn@rccancercenters.com, visit them on the web at www.rccancercenters.com or call 1-800-262-7591.

Reitz, Kevin compressedKevin Reitz started his career in Boise, Idaho, working for a small software company selling accident and crime scene software.  Kevin attend Boise State University, earned a Marekting degree, and remains a rabid Broncos fan.  After moving to Dallas, the company Kevin started his career with was acquired, and his division of the company was disbanded.  Looking for another sales and marketing opportunity, Kevin accepted a position with a small assisted living community.  He was quickly promoted to Executive Director of a larger community.  Six months ago, Kevin moved again, accepting a position as Director of Sales and Marketing for Griswold Special Care.  Kevin observed the need for high quality in-home care firsthand when his great grandmother slipped at the bottom of her driveway, breaking a hip.  He acknowledges that most of his clients desparately want to stay in their own homes, surrounded by their memories and maintaining their independence as long as possible.  Kevin tells us that Griswold Special Care is committed to providing exceptional service at affordable rates to facilitate these seniors to realize their desire to stay in their own homes.  To find out more about Griswold Special Care, call Kevin at (972) 554-0700, email him at kevin@gscdallas.com or visit the website at www.gscdallas.com.
