Bryan Batson/Atlanta Gas Light

Atlanta Gas Light provides American, abundant and affordable natural gas efficiently to 1.5 million Georgians. They’ve been a trustworthy source of safe, clean energy — and a constant partner to almost 200 counties they serve throughout Georgia — since they installed the City of Atlanta’s first natural gas streetlights more than 150 years ago.

Today, AGL is the eighth largest natural gas distribution utility in the United States and the largest in the Southeast. In Georgia’s deregulated natural gas market, AGL does not sell natural gas to customers. Instead, AGL operates and maintains the infrastructure that delivers reliable natural gas to customers of certified natural gas marketers.

Jauxniece Palmer/R.E.C.E.S.S. Programs

R.E.C.E.S.S. Programs is the only branded programs that offers health clubs of all sizes the ability to serve multiple generations simultaneously. They do this by seamlessly integrating youth and older adult programming into the fabric of the facility, without compromising the integrity of the club… but instead enhancing it.

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Missi Wolf founder of the hot new fitness center concept Blast900 The Ultimate Workout. This workout is for all fitness levels – whether you’re a runner, jogger or walker you can lose weight at this gym. It’s not really a gym in the conventional sense it is a workout center that uses interval training techniques and fast paced music to get you moving. A class can have people of all fitness levels working out together – half the class are  using high tech cardio equipment while the other half  are doing other exercises. Each are using intervals to burn lots of calories then after a few minutes they switch up – the cardio people start exercising and the exercisers start doing cardio. After struggling to lose over 100 pounds Missi decided to design a program that combines cardio, strength training, resistance training, abdominal work and stretching all in one one hour workout. This fitness chain has started in Atlanta but is looking to expand through franchising all over the place. To learn more please go to www.blast900.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to safely bring your kid to the gym and learn about strength training. Kids love going into a gym because their are lots of machines they can climb on that they have never seen before. So once your kid is at an age that your gym allows them to use the equipment you should begin introducing him/her to the gym. The adult should always demonstrate the exercise first and then assist and spot your child as they do the exercise. Start with very light or no weight until the child learns how to do the exercise with perfect form. Be very supportive and try and incorporate exercises that use your child’s body weight along with exercises that use weights or machines. And relax weight training has not been found to stunt a child’s growth.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. The Fat Guy Says Exercise is Like Cooking Not Baking. And He Knows A Thing or Two About Food.

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why exercise is like cooking not baking. The Fat Guy has a new theory about working out. Please share your thoughts and comments because it is a little controversial. He just started lifting weights again so that is what started this theory. He says you should work out like you cook not like how you bake. For example when the Fat Guy has 30 minutes at the gym he doesn’t carry a notebook with the names of exercises and the weight and how many reps he has to do, etc. He just wanders the gym and goes machine to machine trying to hit the major body parts. He sets the machine on a low but challenging weight then does one set at a very slow pace (as slow as 10 seconds per rep) until he can’t do another rep. If he feel like to doing more arms than legs then Bam, just like Emeril he does more arms then legs. This is opposed to those people who log in every rep like it’s a science experiment. They are following their work out like Duff from Ace of Cakes makes his Girl Scout Cookie cake. The Fat Guy thinks if you are more unstructured while you exercise you will stay compliant longer and get good enough results to keep you going. Dr Fitness thinks you need to write things down to get the most results in the shortest time. What do you think? Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to behave at the gym There are lots of unwritten rules for gym etiquette. And since the gym is sometimes an intimidating places with lots of crazy machines we thought we’d share some do’s and dont’s at the gym.  Don’t be the idiot who slams down the weights and is inconsiderate towards everyone else around you. This is not your private gym – you are sharing the space with lts and lots of other people. Do clean up your sweat after each exercise. Don’t be the loud cell phone talker unless you have something really interesting to talk about. Do use only the space around your locker – don’t spread out and crowd people in the locker room. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy’s Wellness Minutes improve your health in 3 minutes a day or less. iTunes Follow me on Twitter @FatGuy
