Michelle Prater, President & CEO | North Georgia Community Foundation

Michelle attended the University of North Georgia and earned a bachelor’s degree in both marketing and management. She continued her education at Brenau University earning her MBA in Leadership Development. Michelle started her career in banking. As a vice president at Regions then BB&T, she led a highly successful team earning many sales and leadership awards. After a mission trip to Uganda in 2005, she decided to leave corporate America and move into the nonprofit sector so that she could make a greater impact on those in need and serve the North Georgia Community Foundation.

Brian Tam, Owner | Tam’s Backstage & Tam’s Tupelo Restaurant

Tam’s Backstage Restaurant is in its 18th year as one of Forsyth County’s most successful food & spirits gathering spots. Full of charm and character, Tam’s Backstage Restaurant is located in the historical Cumming Public School building in the heart of downtown Cumming, Georgia. The building was constructed in 1923 to serve as Forsyth County’s only school. Each week, teachers “commuted” to Cumming by horseback. They stayed across the street at the Brannon-Heard House (then a boarding house) and then travel back to their homes for the weekends.

Mary Helen McGruder, Chair | Forsyth County Community Foundation Advisory Board

Mary Helen works closely with a group of local leaders in Forsyth County, the Forsyth County Community Foundation (FCCF). Established in 2015 to better serve the specific needs of Forsyth County, the foundation allows donors to focus their charitable giving in their own community. The Forsyth County Community Foundation is an affiliate of NGCF but has a local advisory board of community leaders representing a cross-section of public interests in Forsyth County.

Over the last 16 years he has led several successful campaigns to gain voter approval for over $2 billion dollars for education, transportation, and public safety infrastructure improvements. During his tenure at the Chamber, the organization has worked with over 400 economic development clients and commercial real estate developments that have announced the creation of over 22,000 new jobs and over $2 billion dollars of new capital investment in Forsyth County.

Forsyth is located just northeast of Atlanta, Georgia. The County was partitioned in 1832 from a section of Cherokee County territory along with nine other counties in the area. Forsyth County was named for John Forsyth, Governor of Georgia from 1827 – 1829.
Cumming and Forsyth County, Georgia are consistently ranked among the most desirable communities in the nation. World class schools, nationally recognized parks, over 200 miles of lake shore line, the lowest property taxes in the region and a vibrant business community are the primary factors that earn the community accolades year after year.

Lynn Jackson is the Chief Operating Officer for Northside Hospital Forsyth. The Northside Hospital health care system is one of Georgia’s leading health care providers with five acute-care hospitals in Atlanta, Canton, Cumming, Duluth and Lawrenceville and more than 250 outpatient locations across the state. Northside Hospital leads the U.S. in newborn deliveries and is among the state’s top providers of cancer care, sports medicine, cardiovascular and surgical services. They are celebrating 20 years of being in Forsyth County.

James McCoy is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Forsyth County Chamber. Over the last 16 years he has led several successful campaigns to gain voter approval for over $2 billion dollars for education, transportation, and public safety infrastructure improvements. Kevin Tanner is the Forsyth County Manager. Kevin has served the local community for the past 30 years, including previously serving as the county manager of Dawson County and working as a firefighter and member of the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office. At the end of 2020 he finished his fourth term as a State Representative for District 9, which includes Lumpkin County and parts of Dawson and Forsyth counties. Kevin has served as the chairman of the House Transportation Committee and has been a member of several other committees in the House, including Appropriations, Education, Special Rules, Natural Resources and Intergovernmental Coordination committees. In 2019 and 2020, he was appointed to serve as the co-chair of the joint Georgia Commission on Freight & Logistics.

Dr. Jeff Bearden joined Forsyth County Schools as superintendent on September 2, 2014.
He has served as a school executive for over 25 years. Prior to joining Forsyth County, he was
superintendent of Rome City Schools and Fayette County Schools. Dr. Bearden spent the first part of his educational career in Maine where he served as superintendent of the Maine School Administrative District. Dr. Bearden also served as an assistant superintendent, assistant principal, and district athletic director. He taught social studies and language arts and was a varsity basketball coach. A Georgia native, Dr. Bearden holds a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from the University of Maine, and a Doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, he is a third-generation veteran of the United States Air Force.

Michelle Daniells is the enthusiastic VP of Business Development. She and her team bring the mission of The Chamber of to LIFE! They are the voice of business, providing community leadership, information and solutions to foster a strong economic environment and a superior quality of life in Forsyth County. James is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Forsyth County Chamber. Over

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Chamber of
Commerce, Council for Quality Growth, Atlanta Regional Business Coalition and the Executive
Committee of the Georgia Budget & Policy Institute (GBPI). James is a past Chair of the Board of
Directors for the North Georgia Community Foundation, Bald Ridge Boy’s Lodge, and served as
Founding Chair of Mentor Me North Georgia.

Derek is the 2022 Board Chair of the Forsyth County Chamber. Additionally, he is a Forsyth County native, who was in the third graduating class of South Forsyth High School. He owns and operates Brandywine Printing Inc , a family-owned business founded in the early 80s by his father. Brandywine Printing helps organizations succeed by providing printed materials that improve their image or make them more efficient.
Derek has finds a lot of joy in being involved with multiple charities and nonprofits in his community and believes that you get what you give, so give a lot!
