I like how most vegetables taste – plain – steamed or just sauteed or roasted in some olive oil. I think they taste good just they way they are. But for you pickier or more adventurous eaters here are some ways to make veggies taste  gooder….taste tastier?

  • Experiment with citrus juices when you make your veggies.
  • Try flavored olive oils – Dr fitness likes basil in his extra virgin olive oil
  • Spice things up with some exotic spices, herbs and peppers
  • Add some garlic – garlic makes everything taste better

Anything you can do to eat more vegetables is a good thing. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy’s Wellness Minutes improve your health in 3 minutes a day or less. iTunes Follow us on Twitter @FatGuy and @DrFitness6 Be our Friend on Facebook

This vegetable omelette recipe is the Fat Guy’s new favorite breakfast. Whether you spell it omelet or the classier omelette – it tastes awesome. In some butter saute up some veggies you like – we use finely chopped red, yellow and orange peppers ( my kid loves to add bacon and cheese to this meal) – Crack 2-3 eggs per small pan and scramble them up in a bowl. When the veggies are done and you’ve removed any excess liquid then pour the eggs on top. Wait until the eggs solidify around the veggies while you gently move the whole mixture around. Now it is time for the flip – be careful this will make or break this – flip and let cook for a while longer – until all the eggs get done. Put it on the plate and fold it over. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their favorite . Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how to clean your produce. Cleaning your fruits and vegetables are so important these days. Not a week goes by without some story about food poisoning. Getting rid of pesticides is pretty easy if you use just plain tap water. Getting rid of micro organisms like e coli and other germs takes a little more – a water with vinegar mixture should do the trick – use about 10% vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz the heck out of your produce then rinse them off with water. The friction from rubbing the produce and cleaning them gets rid of the bad stuff. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Dr Barry Sears, creator of the Zone Diet. Dr Sears is the leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal response. His theory is that you have to keep your hormones in a zone that is not too high or too low. He believes that the food you eat has the biggest impact on your hormone levels and therefore your weight and your health. He says when your hormones are out of whack you become sicker, fatter and dumber. His solution is to get rid of all the vegetable oil in your pantry, eat less processed foods, eat less foods with Omega 6 fatty acids, eat more foods with Omega 3 fatty acids, eat smaller portions, eat more vegetables and have some cod liver oil everyday. He says your Grandmother was right – as you will notice that is the same advice she was giving you. He also gave a great tip on how to check out your fish oil supplement to make sure it is good. Here is Dr Barry Sear’s Fish Oil test – take a handful of fish oil supplements cut them open and dump the oil in a shot glass – then put the shot glass in the freezer. After a few hours check on the oil – if you can put a toothpick through the oil and it didn’t freeze then it is probably okay – if the oil is solid then it probably is not pure fish oil and you should look for another brand.   Dr Sears talked about the new Anti-Inflammatory Diet and what he calls silent inflammation. He also has a new book out titled Toxic Fat. Please go to his websites www.drsears.com and www.zonediet.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how cartoon characters can influence what food your kids eat. In recent research that will not surprise anyone who has a child it seems that kids prefer foods that are associated with their favorite cartoon characters. On the surface this may seem like bad news – but in reality parents can take this information and use it to their advantage. How about filling bags with fruit slices and vegetables and slapping cartoon stickers all over it and then give that to your kids to make it more appealing. If you can get your kid to be a more healthy eater and eat more fruit just by putting a Sponge Bob sticker on a banana – then give it a try.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Are There Really Negative Calorie Foods?

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain negative calorie foods. A negative calorie food is one in which the amount of calories it takes to digest the food is more than the amount of calories the food has. For example say a piece of broccoli has about 25 calories and it takes your body 80 calories of energy to digest that piece of broccoli then you have theoretically created a deficit of 55 calories. So according to this theory you are losing weight while eating certain foods. Foods that burn a lot of calories to digest tend to be healthy fruits and vegetables like: berries, celery, grapefruit, cabbage and cauliflower. Sounds a little fishy but eating more fruits and vegetables are good for you. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
