Financial Infidelity: The Hidden Threat to Marriages, with Kathy Healy, Healy Wealth Management, a clip from her appearance on North Fulton Business Radio with host John Ray

Financial Infidelity: The Hidden Threat to Marriages (One Minute Interview, Episode 133)

During her recent appearance on North Fulton Business Radio with host John Ray, Kathy Healy of Healy Wealth Management addressed a growing concern in marriages: financial infidelity.

Healy noted that money consistently ranks as the primary source of conflict between married couples. She defined financial infidelity as behaviors ranging from “squirreling away money” and making undisclosed purchases to more significant financial deceptions.

The solution? Regular, transparent communication.

Healy shared that some of her clients have implemented structured financial check-ins. One couple calls their weekly session the “MOM” meeting—Meeting of the Minds. While Healy acknowledged that weekly might be excessive for many (including herself), she emphasized that monthly financial conversations should be the minimum standard.

Even when one spouse handles the day-to-day financial administration, Healy stressed that both partners must remain informed and engaged with their shared financial picture. This transparency builds trust and ensures both spouses understand their current situation and progress toward goals.

For couples discovering fundamental differences in their financial priorities, Healy offered a practical exercise: Have each spouse separately list their top ten financial goals, then come together to discuss. This approach creates space for both perspectives before moving into the essential work of collaboration and compromise.

The wisdom extends beyond avoiding arguments. Financial transparency builds something far more valuable: a shared vision that honors both partners’ needs and concerns.

By maintaining open financial communication, couples can avoid the damaging effects of financial infidelity and build a stronger foundation for their future together.

Design Life’s Journey

Design Life’s Journey Wealth and Tax Services is a wealth creation organization focused on helping small business owners and individuals build and protect their wealth and lifestyles.  This is accomplished through three foundational pillars: financial services including asset management, tax planning and tax preparation services, and profit & operational improvement coaching for small businesses with fewer than 100 employees.

The organization is comprised of two distinct entities, DLJ Wealth Services, LLC and DLJ Tax Services, LLC, to meet their legal and regulatory requirements. The integration of the three disciplines into these organizations was created to provide clients with a fully comprehensive financial overview before developing strategies for cash flow, tax minimization and investment management. While the two businesses are distinct, the combined effort provides a more complete framework to help their clients build their wealth and live the life they desire.

DLJ Tax Services is a small organization providing personal attention to clients from offices in Appleton, WI and Dawsonville, GA. Their goal is to help their clients grow their wealth in a manner that fits their specific needs and put them in control of their future.

Advice

Choose to ask for, listen to, and apply advice. There are no guarantees, no risk-free environments or investments, and no certain futures. Learn from those who are where you want to be in life, through one-on-one time, group learning, or reading what those people have written.

Attitude

Choose an attitude of gratefulness. Make a list of what you are grateful for. Add to it every day. Your sight allows you to see those you love, and to enjoy the beauty of a sunrise or sunset. Your hearing allows you to hear the joy in children singing, and the majesty of Beethoven’s 9th.

Example

Choose to set an example. Never underestimate the power and influence of the decisions you make today on those around you, and on future generations.

Hope

Choose always to keep hope alive. Be mindful of where you place your hope. C.S. Lewis said, “if we have longings which cannot be satisfied in this world, it is obvious we were made for another world”. Yes.

Perseverance

Choose to carry on. It takes no talent to quit, criticize, condemn, or complain. My friend Bill died on August 30th, 2020. He was a Marine in Vietnam and trained as an engineer. By profession he was an attorney. Like me, he was a preacher’s kid, which is not something I necessarily recommend. His motto? Suit up, stand up, show up, and never, never, never quit.

Randy Brunson/Centurion Advisory Group

Randy Brunson is the founding shareholder of Centurion Advisory Group. Randy has invested most of his forty-year career in financial services. He spent several years on the institutional side and had the opportunity to start a successful financial planning firm in 1991. Centurion Advisory Group serves individual and corporate clients, both in Georgia and throughout the country, offering personal and business financial planning, retirement plan design and management, and investment management services.

Randy studied engineering and marketing at UT Chattanooga. Randy currently holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) and CKA designation and makes it a priority to stay on top of his knowledge in the financial industry through continuing professional educational opportunities and reading. In addition, Randy has completed studies in qualified plan design, estate planning and business transition planning and he enjoys speaking and writing regularly on these topics.

Sandy LeRoux/Centurion Advisory Group

Sandy LeRoux, has been with Centurion Advisory Group since early 2015. She serves as co-advisor and team lead and has primary responsibility for a number of client relationships. Sandy is a skilled and dedicated Financial Planner with more than 20 years’ experience in the executive level of business and finance. For 15 years, she served as Controller and Human Resources Administrator for LeRoux Entertainment, a multimillion-dollar company with over 250 employees in six states.

Following her desire to serve the broader community, Sandy served as the Executive Assistant to the lead pastor of The Bridge Church. During her time there, she especially enjoyed developing strategic pathways and action plans based on the priorities, vision, and initiatives of the pastor and congregation. Sandy also worked at the executive level of First Covenant Bank in Roswell, GA. Her talents in the financial and faith-based organizations are what led her to Centurion Advisory Group.

Sandy received her Bachelor’s Degree in Finance with a Minor in Accounting from UGA and her MBA in Corporate Finance from Georgia State University. Currently, Sandy is working towards her Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.
